Twin Cedars by Gateway Lifestyle village residents at Beerburrum gathered at a group breakfast to celebrate Australia Day. The occasion was also used to hold an auction to raise funds for the Salvation Army to distribute to those in need in response to the recent bush fire crisis.

About 50 residents attended the auction and, perhaps energised by freshly cooked bacon and eggs, donated $2,029, which was handed over to a Salvation Army representative on Friday, January 31.

Some residents wondered how the contents of their wallets disappeared so quickly after the event but it was all towards a special cause with the village home owners' committee receiving huge support from residents in organising the event.

Twin Cedars home owners' committee chairperson John Pozzey said the support from local businesses in donating goods and services was fantastic and thateveryone approached was willing to help.

“Items for auctioning were collected from the always generous local Glass House area businesses, as well our residents," John said.

“Everyone Yvonne (Pozzey) approached was happy to help and we were grateful for the support, which will in turn help others.

“Members of the home owners' committee were very appreciative of the generosity of both the residents and local businesses,“ John said.

Like many Australian communities, they rallied together to help the victims of the bush fires whose lives and businesses have been destroyed.
