shimmer & shine, summer style Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. - Coco Chanel

This time around let me start by thanking our team of photographers and columnists. Our job becomes particularly challenging and exciting when the theme is as broad and ambiguous as “Shimmer & Shine”. You never know what is on the way especially when you ask for submissions on a particular theme that leaves a lot of room for interpretation. But as usual, our team has done an impeccable job!

Vintage—Cher Llyod

Bella’s not afraid to shake it up with a super-trendy, vintage-inspired suit! Black-and-white is a chic beachside color combo, plus the retro fit adds some curves to her tiny figure.

Cher Lloyd’s girly, '50s-inspired suit looks especially sweet paired with her edgy tattoos! The ruffles are great for filling out ladies with a smaller frame.

Bandeau—Katy Perry This full coverage top paired with tiny bottoms is perfect for girls like Katy who are big chested but have a tiny booty. Thank goodness for bikinis sold as separates! The tie-dye pattern paired with tons of metal jewelry is a perfect look for anyone festival-bound this summer. May 2013 Glamcob 15

cover story

sophia abella a healthy lifestyle

“..proud to be a transgender woman, the best of both worlds. How do most people react when learning about your lifestyle? I’d say that people sometimes could not believe that I am living a healthy lifestyle. People who are in the lime light do a lot of insane things. I, on the contrary, have my daily routines that I diligently follow. For instance, I exercise regularly; I maintain a balanced-diet; I am vice-free and my spirituality is fulfilled. When people learn my way of living, they get inspired and motivated to do something similar to change their life.

Has anyone given you some really good advice to deal with any negativity, if so what? A wise man once told me, ‘happiness lies within your soul,”. One can have a blissful life if you really want it. In other words, real joy emanates within you. As Vickie L. Milazzo has quoted, “Wicked Success Is Inside Every Woman”. Today, I convert negativity as fuel to get to my destination ahead of the curve. Negativity only pulls you down. When someone drags you by being cynical, I just shrug it off. I deem to stay positive at all times because I believe in mantra that ‘positivity begets positivity’. What have you found to be the most positive thing in living an alternative lifestyle? By being an inspiration to other people. I have inspired many people and they have changed their lives because of what they have seen in me. I compose my own quotes which I use to deal my life everyday. I prefer to be levelheaded and rational. I choose to be realistic instead of being nice. This has, often than not, fills the gap in between. The need to know yourself before others. I do however concede that sometimes drifting into cynicism or being a little too inwards is inevitable. Maybe engaging with other people has to be done at certain stages of your ‘self-understanding’ to give some kind of frame of reference (that’s unavoidable, anyway). At what time in your life did you know that you wanted to be a woman? Every little girl has a dream. Mine was to be a beautiful sultry and devilish Maggie Q in a black weather peering out magic weapon. Other than that, I longed to be Angelina Jolie – pouting sexily at the camera, candidly and flawlessly. I was born a bloke! I knew it ever since I started feeling differently towards other boys in our class. They liked dribbling balls in the basket ball court while I just sat and

watched them from the side court, desperate to go home to play Barbie dolls with my sister. Unfortunately, I was not born perfect and this imperfection has worried and disturbed me. Yet I was (and still am) kind to my family and friends, worked hard, gained many friends and eventually accepted that my physical imperfection is inconsequential. This may sound condescending but I was endowed with physical attractiveness and although I have an advantage over other transgender because of this, I felt I needed to “change”. I felt the need to change to find what I really yearned for – True Happiness. What I did not realize, was that every change comes with a cost. You turned into a model, is it the thing that you wanted in the life? Absolutely, definitely and positively a showstopper. A super model. Today I value excellence, and wrap my affairs with dignity. I have sizeable energy and vibes in everything that I do along with the fact that I’m very outspoken when in comes to my views on society and sexuality. To have a dream role, a Bollywood version. I think the one Maggie Q played in ‘Naked Weapon’. What is a common misconception about transgendered people that you think other people should know the truth about? It has been difficult. I always believe that if you are scrupulously honest, you stand your ground and you have dignity, then people will respect you. If people choose to despise you because of your sexual choices and you get offended then you let other people to cripple and torment you. You allow them to hurt you. You feel distressed not because it is the truth but because you could not let go of their misinterpretations, lies and gossip against you.

Were you afraid of going through transition? No doubt; it was never easy! Physically, if you want to be beautiful, take the pain. After a few hours you live the way you want it. The need to change became so eminent to me, it was so strong that I became very impatient before, and I have made a decision to stop working and tried to do something completely different. I had heard that there were certain paths through the City of Life, which I looked incredibly interesting and absolutely wonderful. I had heard that some of these paths were full of mystery and danger, but also held the chance of great opportunity. I plan for the next six years, to complete this so-called journey, The Central Path.

What did you have to go through before your doctor approved of putting you on hormones/ gender reassignment surgery? I made appointments with a reputable, celebrity surgeon and made several general queries at first, right after extensive research, and real-life testimonies. I then started oral hormone replacement therapy, deep derma penetration. I also underwent cosmetic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery. I still have procedures on my check list: facial bone reconstruction (facial feminization), vocal chord surgery and Gore-tex Rhinoplasty. How did your family/friends react when you came out? Although they were shocked, they showed support and encouragement. They did not see me less of a person. On a positive note, ‘Let go of that ego and insecurity. Realizing it and trying to articulate it stops it in its tracks. A daily battle for everyone I think.

Dale Bacar

Do you want to have a family some day? (Giggling) Yes by starting to have a baby cat. It is better to adopt than to buy. I named her Candice. I lathered her with Bvlgari and L’occitane today!

Dale Bacar

What is the hardest part in dating someone who is not transgendered? The expectations are different. The chances of being misconstrued in so many different things, in so many levels, are high simply because we have different perceptions. Are you 100% sure of your sexuality? Proud to be a transgender woman, the best of both worlds. I am extremely sure of my sexuality and what I want out of life with regard to love: It has to be a man, and an open-minded one at that because if I am with a man a serious with humor and for the sexual intimacy that has become a primal part of my psyche. I cannot get aroused by female genitalia. Doesn’t mean promoting gay porn star or Playboy model makes me a homosexual. Homosexuality can be overt, situational, exploratory and bisexual. Transgender/Transsexual is different from Homosexual, we go by transition, change of passport and we believe that we are woman trapped in a man’s body. This is to say that I don’t like women; I adore women because I am one, if anything it has freed me to love them for the wonderful gender they are, and to truly appreciate them untainted by being one. The interesting thing is because I am so much more appreciative of them, they in turn find me far more attractive than ever, and cannot understand why I can’t I be one of them. But I think you understand why I chose to act more far better, it’s a personal branding. Do you have more of a preference for men or for women? MEN of course! Do I need to think about it? I eschew women, even if someone offers me a billion dollar-prize. What improvements would you like to see happen for the LGBT community in the future? My words are active, alive and powerful. My soul belongs to India. Read the annual Festival in Koovagam, Tamil Nadu, stories of Transgendered people being grope and rape outside the temple. Really sick, and totally breaks my heart into pieces. I give my full support to MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) and to the LGBT community across the globe in any way possible. There is no ‘law’ that someone ought to have a relationship or marry one. Respect their preferences and sexuality, as long they don’t harm other people, in any form or object.

be bikini ready!! Before you know it, the winter is gone, spring has sprung, the weather begins to warm up, and you know that bikini season is just around the corner. Before the summer months are upon us, or if you are jetting off somewhere warm for a vacation, try some of these great exercises that are designed to melt away fat and make you look great on the beach.

32 Glamcob May 2013

SQUATS Contrary to what you might think about these, women do not have enough naturally recurring testosterone in their bodies to end up looking like a thick thighed bodybuilder. Squats are possibly the best all round compound exercise there is for burning calories, as they are exhausting to perform, and they build shapely, firm legs and buttocks. The extra muscle you gain will in turn require more calories from you to function properly, so it’s a win-win situation. If you are a complete beginner, start by simply standing on a flat surface with your feet shoulder width apart and arms held out in front of you. Slowly squat down until your thighs are parallel to the floor, hold for 2 seconds, and slowly return to the starting position. Try 3 sets of 10 repetitions every day, and you will feel the benefits in a week.

STEPS Burning fat is going to take more than lifting lots of weights or hundreds of crunches. Aerobic exercise is very important in helping to burn calories, and should be an integral part of your workout. Stepping is a simple and effective way to exercise, and can be done in the comfort of your own home with minimal equipment. Find a sturdy box that can hold your weight, or get hold of a set of steppers that are designed for this exercise. Standing a couple of feet away from the box, step onto it with your right foot, bringing your left up beside it. Then, step back with your right foot, and then the left. Keep this up for at least 10 minutes, or longer if you can. To add more motion to this exercise, try raising your arms from your sides up above your head when you step up and down, or hold some light weights in your hands.

May 2013 Glamcob 33

This is a great way to tone up your tummy and upper thighs; simply lie on your back with your hands raising up your butt a little behind you. With your legs straight out in front of you, lift them up and pretend you are riding a bicycle, remembering to fully extend your legs on each rotation. Count 25 forward rotations before reversing the move and do 25 in reverse.

Although this is an unusual one, in that the object is to stay as still as possible, it is a great way to tone up muscles and never fails to get a sweat going! Lying face down on the floor, raise yourself up on your forearms and toe tips, keeping your back as straight as possible. Straight as a plank, hence the name. Hold this position for 1 minute if you can, and don’t let your butt sag towards the floor or raise up – keep your body in a straight line. If you can manage a full minute, make it more challenging by immediately rolling onto your right elbow and point your left arm straight up to the roof, keeping your body straight. This will target the oblique muscles at your side. After a minute, roll onto the opposite side for another minute.

34 Glamcob May 2013

This is a lot harder than it sounds, and is a great exercise for firming up your core muscles, as well as hitting the shoulders and thighs.

I think the glass toys are the best. They are hard and transfer heat very well. You can even pop them in the fridge for a really good time! I bought a few from and they are not only fantastic to look at....but they make me orgasm like I never have'll be back in a few!

- Nikita

My boyfriend is overseas in Iraq and while he's away, I have no choice but to take care of my needs myself...along with the help of a few choice toys. There is value in a few good toys and rechargeable batteries! I like using an adjustable showerhead...I've used it myself on many occasions! Works like a charm every time! Combine the showerhead on your clitoris with a good waterproof vibrating dildo on the G-spot and're in heaven! Luckily for me, my man comes home in December and our appetites for love-making are over the top. He'll be in for a wonderful homecoming! I can't wait!

- Adrianna

The best tool by far has been my Rabbit vibrator/clitoris tickler. It always gets the job done and quickly if I just want a "quickie." LOL!

- Sussane

My best advice for women would be to find your G-spot! Seriously, you HAVE to if you haven't already! I masturbated for years trying to find it by myself, and one day I searched and found a very graphic explanation on a web site, tried it and OMG! BEST thing EVER!

- Nishthaa

My preferred method is to use the pulsating showerhead in the morning. You can change the spray settings, slow or fast, and you can move it around to simulate a tongue. I've had some really good, earth-shaking orgasms this way. Try it—you'll love it!

- Jennifer

For an intense O, I'll use my small vibe inside me while flicking my bean (best phrase ever) with one hand and teasing my butt with my other hand. Good lord, I'm going to have to go and relieve myself in my office bathroom now! Enjoy yourselves, ladies!

-Sheena Kaur

And for number one… two of our readers recommended the very same product…. Three words: Hitachi Magic Wand. Get it at Use a towel between it and your privates because it's pretty strong. The thing works quickly, too.

Q. This is a little complicated. I am in love with this man in my colony. He is 27 years old. He is just absolutely wonderful and absolutely hot. I am 18 years old. But my parents still consider me to be a kid. Last week when my parents had gone out for the weekend, he asked me to go over to his place. At first we were just cuddling and watching TV, then suddenly he kissed me. I had never been kissed before. But the kiss felt right. One minute we were kissing, the next minute I had climbed onto him and things started getting steamier. Ever since then I can’t wait to meet him alone. I love it when he kisses me and touches me. I feel guilty that it makes me feel so good. Also I am constantly scared that if my parents find out they will have him arrested or something. He keeps assuring me that we are both adults. He also suggested that we lay off the making out if I am so scared. But I can’t seem to have enough of him. Am I a nymphomaniac? A. Whoa! Slow down! Unless and until you feel like making out with every man in your colony, or at least half the men in the colony you can ease out on considering yourself as a nymphomaniac. You just have found a guy who knows how to respect a woman and her expectations and he makes you feel good about being you. I repeat, slow down. You know what they say about temptations? They make you greedy. You must learn to control them. Give your relationship some bitter-sweet memories along with some passionate ones. Take time to understand each other and in some years you can commit your relationship to a more serious status.

Q. I have been in love since I was eight years old. My mom and dad are always traveling, so they hired a nanny to look after me. She was 14 when she came to look at me. It was love at first sight. I followed her everywhere and everybody thought it was really cute. As I grew up, I realized that my feelings for her were just deepening as time passed. By the time I was ready to go to college, I did not need a nanny anymore but she stayed on just the same. Last New Year eve my parents had gone to a party and it was just her and I at home. We kissed! It was my first but hottest kiss. Things have just gotten hotter ever since. We can’t seem to wait for my parents to go on a trip so we can be with each other. The thing however is, I think for her it is all about sex. We have never spoken relationship or love. I don’t know what to do next? Do I tell her how much I love her and that I want to marry her? Or should I just let things be? A. I forget, how old are you again? If you are still old enough to need a nanny, you are definitely not old enough to talk marriage! Or at least your parents are going to think so. Even before you confess your desire to marry her to her, consider letting your parents know you have grown up and don’t need a nanny anymore. Then, evaluate the situation once again before you take any decision which could alter the course of your life.

?? ??

Q. There is the boy in my colony. He keeps spreading rumors about me. Some weeks ago he spread a rumor that I had gone on a date with him. Then it was that he and I gone to the movies together. Then it was how I was the first woman ever to ride his bike. Now it is that I have invited him to my sister’s wedding. I haven’t! I don’t know why he does this? Is he psychotic? Should I complain to the police? Should I confront him and talk to him? My boyfriend is not going to like this and my parents are going to kill me the minute they find out! A. If you are feeling threatened by him, you must complain to the Police. However most of his rumors seem to be more like hints. It is as if he is trying to ask you out. He must really like you. It would not be a bad idea to confront him with a couple of friends and demand an explanation for his actions. Let him know that you have a boyfriend already that might break his heart but it could also deter him.
