On Tuesday 6 December, it was a great pleasure to recognise the service and contributions of Col Armour, Council’s longest serving employee in its known history. On 23 January 1975, Col started his career with Council as a truck driver.

Col’s 47 years of experience and skills are welcomed in our Operations Team as part of the Roads Program Delivery Team and will be missed as he leaves to enjoy some welldeserved long service leave over the coming months. Col has a multi-generational connection with Council having worked at Council for 47 years with his father also working for Council for more than 40 years. His grandfather was also employed by Council. This is an outstanding commitment to Council and the community, and we sincerely thank Col for his commitment and dedication.
Now is the time to start circling dates in your 2023 calendar as Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC) unveils an exciting line-up of Morning Melodies performances!
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the October performance of Rocket Man will be a free event to coincide with the Mayor’s Seniors Month Morning Tea.
On behalf of Gladstone Regional Council, I wish Col nothing but health and happiness and wish him and wife Angela all the best into the future.
The 2023 Morning Melodies season begins on Tuesday 21 February with Lovely Day, a show that relives awe-inspiring music moments from the past 50 years including iconic songs from Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and more.
“I always look forward to attending the Mayor’s Seniors Month Morning Tea and catching up with many familiar and friendly faces,” Councillor Burnett said.

ARIA, Logie and Helpmann Award winner Jonathon Welch will raise the roof on 30 May when he performs A Hard Knock Life, a tribute to the music and life of Harry Secombe. Songbird and improvised comedy queen Jenny Wynter is set to leave audiences in stitches on 15 August when she performs By Request, a sidesplitting cabaret featuring a collection of songs, stories and comedy all inspired by suggestions from the audience. The GECC will take flight on Tuesday 10 October when Australia’s top Elton John impersonator Greg Andrew hits the stage with Rocket Man. Greg’s uncanny likeness to the Rocket Man has transformed him into one of the single most recognised Elton John performers in the world.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend this year’s morning tea as I was in Cairns for the Local Government Association of Queensland’s annual conference, so I hope to see everyone again next year in what I’m sure will be a fantastic tribute to Sir Elton John.” Rounding out the 2023 Morning Melodies calendar is Christmas with Karen Knowles, who will deck the halls on 5 December. All Morning Melodies performances are catered by the QCWA and feature raffles and lucky door prizes. Bookings to all shows are essential. Visit www.gladstoneentertainment.com or call the GECC Box Office on 4972 2822.
