H.F. Giza Systems Smart Solutions is Introduced to the African Market in Nairobi, Kenya An impressive roadshow was held on Wednesday, 5th February, 2014, to introduce the newly-formed H.F. Giza Systems Smart Solutions to

the African market. H.F. Giza Systems Smart Solutions is the product of

the merger between Giza Systems’ Smart Solutions Line of Business and H.F. Fire, the group of companies specializing in integration of building management solutions.

Held at the InterContinental Nairobi Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, the

roadshow featured a remarkable lineup of speakers and brought together over 120 guests. These distinguished guests included

existing clients, partners, government officials, contractors, and smart solutions consultants, as well as other interested parties.

The Egyptian Ambassador, Kadry Abdel Mutteleb, as well as the

Second Commercial Secretary at The Egyptian embassy in Kenya, Maged Sabek, and Ahmed Al Ansary, Deputy Ambassador also

attended the event in a show of support for Egyptian companies expanding into Africa and reinforcing bilateral country relations.

The roadshow shed light on the rationale behind the creation of H.F.

Giza Systems Smart Solutions. By delineating the various synergies

to be achieved in terms of markets, know-how, cost efficiencies, and diversification, the newly established company promises to extend the magnitude of its projects, as well as its combined solutions portfolio.

"With the completion of this project, Giza Systems has gained new

ground in the power generation sector. For the first time in the power generation sector in Egypt, our team has had the privilege of installing

and commissioning new components including flame scanners and

igniters in the plant. We are extremely proud to have expanded our footprint in this sector and look forward to the many new milestones to come in power generation," stated Mohamed Abourayya, General Manager Field Solutions Line of Business.

The Talkha thermal power plant, located in the city of Mansoura in the Dakahliya governorate, employs two steam turbine units. They had been facing a number of issues in their operations, which spurred the

Middle Delta Electricity Production Company to request assistance from Giza Systems to revamp the Burner Management Systems.

The issues at the plant involved repeated shutdown of the units for

unknown reasons; the need to manually and locally start-up the burners; the extended length of time needed for the actual start-up; and the unstable operation handling heavy oil.

"The project presented a number of challenges such as the lack of data pertaining to the old system, as well as the necessity to operate under very tight shutdown timeframes. However, due to the critical

nature of the project and to ensure the safe start-up, operation, and

shut down of the system, the team was committed to gaining and applying the necessary know-how. They created from scratch the

data needed for operations, as well as combined process control and

field instrumentation to serve the power generation sector," stated Amr Roshdi, Project Manager at Giza Systems.

With the set-up of the burner management system and the flame

monitoring system, the project renders Giza Systems a forerunner in

the power generation sector, for its contributions reinforcing Egypt’s national infrastructure.

The implemented systems resulted in the optimization of fuel quantities used and ensured minimum startup time for the plant, which entailed

safety of the plant with the installation of flame scanners for flame monitoring.

In addition to managing the combustion process of burning fuel using

the latest technologies and highest quality field instruments, the

project aimed at decreasing fuel consumption by generating the same amount of power, to assist in cutting costs. Furthermore, the upgraded

burner management system has reduced emissions of harmful gases to the surrounding environment.

Giza Systems Launches Giza Systems Foundation for Educational Systems under the Supervision of the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity With the growing challenges facing the community, the role of private

sector companies as a key partner in the development process is becoming even more crucial. In line with Giza Systems’ strong belief in the importance of this role, the Company has established ‘Giza

Systems Foundation for Educational Systems,’ as an independent non-profit organization under the supervision of the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, registration number 9400 for the year 2013.

The Foundation strives to fight ignorance and poverty in slums and

other marginalized areas in Egypt, through the use of technology and

technical expertise. It aims to work with civil society organizations and other NGOs, as well as create successful partnerships with the private sector and the various state institutions. By promoting a

culture of volunteerism in the Egyptian society in general, and within Giza Systems in particular, the Foundation seeks to capitalize on the

various skills amongst the volunteers. By encouraging volunteerism,

the Foundation is able to create a diverse pool of volunteers rich with varying technical, managerial, creative, and life skills. The diversity will

Egypt Goes Eco-Chic with a New Recycling Initiative Demonstrating a green conscience, a group of visionary Egyptians are taking productive steps with one of the ideas spawned from the INJAZ StartUp Egypt competition a few years ago, that aims at using old billboard skins to create colorful school bags and other unique and trendy products.

range from school bags, backpacks for school kids to nifty iPad postman bags for more

Saudi Telecom Company (STC) Awards Giza Arabia Diameter LTE Roaming Project Giza Arabia was awarded the LTE roaming project for the deployment of a Diameter Signaling Router solution for the Saudi Telecom Company (STC). The project is set for completion in the second quarter of 2015. Relying on Giza Arabia’s technical capabilities, extensive experience and knowledge of the market, as well as its partnerships with global leaders in the telecommunications arena, the Saudi Telecom Company awarded the multiple site project to Giza Arabia with confidence that the DSR (Diameter Signaling Router) solution will be optimally deployed.

"Taking on this project provides us with a great opportunity to reinforce our positioning in the regional market in the telecommunications field. Working with the Saudi Telecom Company and effectuating this solution, involving several sites throughout the Kingdom, will indubitably add to our track record," commented Ashraf Attia, Giza Arabia Country Manager.

Giza Arabia’s scope of work includes the supply, design, engineering, installation, training, testing, commissioning, and start-up of all systems involved. While also providing the system operation and support services in a complete managed services approach.

The architecture resulting from DSR, which reduces the cost and

complexity of the core network, enables IP networks to grow incrementally

to support increasing service and traffic demands. It also facilitates

network monitoring by providing a centralized vantage point in the signaling network.

In partnership with Oracle (Tekelec), the deployment of the solution will unlock

a significant feature of DSR, namely the ability to support local applications

such as Policy Binding DRA and HSS Address Resolution in 3GPP networks.

This will result in the conversion of the complex mesh network architecture into a

simple star topology, with no single point of failure. Load sharing, congestion control,

topology hiding and many other network use cases are all part of the DSR portfolio, which are pivotal to customer-oriented needs and services.

"The DSR market is developing faster than expected due to very aggressive LTE deployment

plans, and service providers are becoming justifiably concerned over the efficacy of their signaling

Honeywell Awards Giza Systems Free Zone the Customer Acceptance Center (CAC) Certificate Giza Systems Free Zone recently earned the Customer Acceptance Centre (CAC) certification, awarded by its valued partner, Honeywell. The CAC took effect on 11th December, 2013 and certifies Giza Systems Free Zone’s Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) area, located in the city of Ismailia.

Honeywell Middle East – in Abu Dhabi, UAE – had been driving the initiative of setting up CAC in Egypt at the Giza Systems Free Zone (GSFZ) facility since the beginning of 2013. The CAC in Egypt

will serve Honeywell’s clients in Egypt to perform several activities,

including equipment receiving; systems staging and integration; PreFactory Acceptance Tests (Pre-FAT), Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT),

Integrated Factory Acceptance Tests with third party systems (I-FAT), packing, and shipping.

During the set-up period, the Giza Systems Free Zone Operations team along with the teams from the Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Quality, Project Management and Engineering functions were

involved in the roll out of Honeywell compliant CAC processes to be implemented at the GSFZ facility.

HFS Racing Team Drives at Full Throttle to Formula Student In alignment with its corporate citizenship philosophy, Giza Systems

actively gets involved in societal projects that strive to inspire change and drive innovation. Continuing to support student activities in

universities around Egypt allows Giza Systems to effectively support

the new generation in its initiatives to effect change in the community. The Helwan Formula Student (HFS) racing team at Helwan University is the latest addition to Giza Systems’ supported projects.

HFS is a team of ambitious, hardworking students from the Faculty of Engineering, Helwan University, aiming to combine their studies with exposure to a real world engineering project by participating in

the Formula SAE (FSAE) Competition. The international competition is an exceptional opportunity for engineering students, as it helps them

acquire skills including project management, systems engineering, leadership and team work. Students gain hands on experience in

manufacturing procedures as they evaluate and improve a racing car prototype for the competition.

In 2010, HFS was the first Egyptian, Arab, and African team to build a

Formula-style race car and participate in the biggest motorsport event for students in the world.

"Our vision is to lead the automotive manufacturing industry in Egypt and the Middle East by building the first Egyptian car factory in the

region," stated Hatem Hamdy, Marketing Director at HFS Racing Team. He added "We aim at building a solid, well managed team,

fabricating a whole new race car, and spreading the manufacturing culture in our industrial society."

The project revolves around manufacturing a single-seater Formulastyle race car in order to compete in a series of tests which showcases

the vehicle’s performance in different scenarios. The competition

highlights the need for innovative engineering, careful project

management and organized teamwork in order to see the production of a working prototype.

"In order to achieve our vision we had to prove to the world that we have enough creativity and capabilities to actually design and manufacture a car that could actually compete. So we took on the

challenge to participate at the formula student competition as a sign for what we believe in and what we are capable of accomplishing," commented Karam Atteia, Team Leader at HFS Racing Team.

The team participates at various local and international events including Formula SAE UK Competition; Automech Formula; Machtech; soft opening and awareness events at faculty of engineering; as well as

academic sessions for the students. At Formula Student (FS) London 2010, HFS took the 74th place among 118 universities, along with the

Best New Comer award. In 2011 they won 10th place in design, while in 2012 they took the 78th place among 134 universities.

Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by SAE

International (SAE, previously known as the Society of Automotive

2014 prototype

Engineers). The competition was started in 1978 and was originally called SAE Mini Indy.

The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing

company has contracted a student design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each

student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series

of rules, whose purpose is both ensuring on-track safety (the cars are driven by the students themselves) and promoting clever problem solving.
