Medical Technology Stories In gratitude for supporters who allow us to provide tailored treatment options for our patients
Early Detection: Sarah* was prenatally diagnosed with a fetal heart defect in which the right side was larger than the left side. Thanks to the Foundation’s purchase of the Neonatal Echo Probe the medical team was well-prepared for Sarah. After being born on February 3, 2020 at just over 6 lbs., Sarah was able to have this critical test the very next day, and be discharged the day after that – with her parents remaining by her side the entire time. Without this essential technology, newly born Sarah would have needed to be transferred out of our hospital just for this test. *Patient name and photo changed for privacy.
Caring Connections: An anonymous donor came to us early in the pandemic, searching for a creative way to help our COVID-19 hospitalized patients feel less isolated. With this generous donor’s help, we were able to purchase iPads for hospitalized COVID-19 patients that were used to video conference with their families. This kept our patients’ loved ones safe, but allowed for much-needed connection. More than 100 ICU patients were able to virtually visit with their loved ones, thanks to this technology.
Enhanced Screenings: The Foundation works alongside the medical team at Ascension St. Vincent’s to identify new technologies that improve the accuracy of screenings for various diseases, abnormalities, and other conditions. The EonDirect Lung is the industry-leading incidental pulmonary nodule and lung cancer screening software solution, and Ascension St. Vincent’s is the first to have this software in the region. The Welch Allyn® Q-Stress® Cardiac Stress Testing System was also recently purchased to help our Waycross Cardiology group provide top-of-the-line screenings for heart conditions.
