To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Dear Friends and Supporters,
As we reflect on an extraordinary year, I am reminded that the true power of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles lies in our collective strength – our volunteers, families, donors, and community partners coming together to create life-changing opportunities for girls. Your belief in our work and unwavering support fuels our mission, ensuring every girl, regardless of her circumstances, has the chance to lead, learn, and thrive.
The theme of this year’s Impact Report, Stronger Together, captures the heart of what we have achieved. In 2024, we expanded our reach, serving more girls in under-resourced communities, strengthening partnerships, and increasing access to programs that can actually redefine futures. From providing financial aid to families in need, to launching new initiatives that break down barriers to opportunity, this year has proven that when we work together, we can change lives.
While this report highlights our impact from October 2023 through September 2024, we cannot ignore the challenges that followed, particularly the Los Angeles wildfires that devastated so many of our Girl Scout families in January. Yet, in the face of hardship, our Girl Scout sisterhood shined brightest - rallying together to provide relief, restore normalcy, and support those who lost homes, schools, and stability. The resilience of our girls and the generosity of our community reaffirmed what we’ve always known: sisterhood is our superpower.
Now, more than ever, Girl Scouts is not just relevant – it's essential. Unity is our greatest strength. Together, we empower young leaders, foster confidence and ambition, and equip the next generation with the courage to shape a better world.
Thank you for being an essential part of this journey. There is still so much work to do, and we are grateful to have you by our side. Onward, together.
Yours in Girl Scouting,

Milestones
She Leads
She Leads, GSGLA’s flagship fundraiser, was a big success— and it was made possible by the strength and unity of our incredible community of partners.
On November 4, 2023, over 300 guests attended the open-air event at the Los Angeles Zoo’s Treetops Terrace to champion girl leadership and raise philanthropic support for our mission. Guests interacted with Girl Scouts and even made s’mores.
NBC4 Today in LA Anchor Lynette Romeo, longtime friend of GSGLA, emceed the program, which included presenting the GSGLA Changemaker Award to Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ, and Kat Echazarreta, the first Mexican-born woman to travel to space. We are grateful for the 25 generous sponsors whose investment helps propel our movement forward.

Andy Park and EY Los Angeles – Board/Donor Spotlight
“As a proud girl dad, Girl Scouts’ mission is one I am deeply committed to championing each and every day.” - Andy Park, GSGLA Vice Chair; Executive Committee; External Relations Committee and EY Greater Los Angeles Managing Partner
Under Andy’s leadership, EY has become a valued GSGLA partner, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to empowering girls throughout Greater LA. As a top-tier sponsor of She Leads 2023, EY’s generous support helps provide critical funding for programs that inspire girls to discover their potential, embrace ambition, and gain confidence—all so they become the next generation of strong, resilient women ready to take on—and change—the world.

STEAM
In 2024, GSGLA delivered over 15,800 STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) points of service to girls throughout LA. This reach was possible, in large part, because of the Inglewood Innovation Center (IIC), our STEAM-focused discovery space outfitted with technology and tools to cultivate creativity and confidence in girls who visit. There, Girl Scout troops of all ages build and program robots, write gaming code, design toys with 3D pens, and more.
Petersen Automotive Museum Programming
In 2024, GSGLA gained an exciting new partnership with the Petersen Automotive Museum through the GSGLA Friendly Business program. The collaboration, aimed to inspire curiosity and ignite a passion for STEAM in girls, offers hands-on learning experiences guided by the museum’s educators and subject matter experts to explore the fascinating world of automotive history, engineering, and design.
This partnership reflects GSGLA’s commitment to providing Girl Scouts with meaningful opportunities to connect with local organizations that support their growth and development; we’re excited to see its impact.

Gold Award
When girls and women lead, we’re all golden.
In 2024, GSGLA boasted the largest Gold Award class in the nation for the 13th year in a row, with 207 Girl Scouts contributing more than 16,560 hours implementing sustainable change in their communities. CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA Bonnie Barczykowski congratulated them in person on June 2 at GSGLA’s Gold Award Ceremony at the historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
By earning the Gold Award—the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting—high school Girl Scouts not only improve their worlds for the better today, they're securing their bright, changemaking futures for tomorrow.
The skills Girl Scouts hone through earning the Gold Award—innovative problem solving, empathetic leadership, confident public speaking, and focused project management— prepare them for vast triumphs in higher education (72% say earning their Gold Award helped them get a scholarship) and career (87% say earning their Gold Award helped them succeed professionally).
2024 GSUSA National Gold Award Scholarship
In 2024, GSGLA’s Montserrat H. received the National Gold Award Scholarship. This annual grant supports postsecondary education, recognizing one outstanding Gold Award Girl Scout per council who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership to drive lasting change in their community and beyond.
Montserrat’s Gold Award Project, "Lowering Surface Temperatures," tackled urban heating in low-income communities by advocating for environmental justice. She led volunteers in planting a native garden and painting a pathway to reduce temperatures, lowering the surface temperature by 10°F. Montserrat also educated the community through presentations and events, highlighting the importance of green spaces and clean air.

Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Ceremony
On April 20, 2024, GSGLA hosted its first in-person Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Ceremony (AMVR) since 2019 so it felt extra special to gather at the Sheraton Fairplex Conference Center in Pomona. We conducted vital council business and celebrated our extraordinary volunteers, including over 220 National Award recipients.
GSGLA CEO Theresa Edy Kiene presented two prestigious awards recognizing partnerships that have propelled our mission forward in significant ways. Renee Fraser and Fraser Communications accepted the Outstanding Community Partner Award for lending their media, PR, and advertising expertise to help support GSGLA’s membership growth in under-resourced areas, as well as our Cookie Program and signature events. John Heintz and Latham & Watkins were honored with the Visionary Award for providing pro bono property law services to ensure girls continue to have access to camp and programs at our Girl Scout centers.

Volunteer Spotlight
Linda Haverman’s Girl Scout journey began 39 years ago when her daughter wanted to join a troop, but none existed for her age group in their neighborhood. Linda stepped up, forming GSGLA Brownie Troop 848—igniting a lifelong passion for mentoring girls. This year, we were delighted to welcome her to the Juliette Gordon Low Society.
From day one, Linda was dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for her daughter and the 17 other Girl Scouts who gathered in her living room every Wednesday.
Over the years, her volunteerism grew. In addition to leading Troop 848, Linda balanced multiple troops, as co-leader of Troop 848 when her daughter bridged to Junior, and leader of Daisy Troop 27 when her youngest daughter was ready to join.

From camping adventures to milestone celebrations and trips from Hawaii to Savannah to Pax Lodge (London) and Our Chalet (Switzerland), Linda has given generations of girls the opportunity to grow, lead, and thrive. Now, as a service unit manager, Linda mentors new leaders, oversees dozens of troops, and liaises between members and council staff, ensuring the Girl Scout legacy continues.
Silver Award
In 2024, GSGLA celebrated more than 400 Girl Scouts who earned the Silver Award, the highest honor Cadettes can receive for serving their communities. On May 7 and 14, 2024, we hosted two Silver Award ceremonies to honor our Girl Scouts’ hard work, leadership, and dedication to making a positive impact through extraordinary service projects that address topical issues, including mental health, bullying, and education equity for students with ADHD.

Community Partnership Troop Program
Since 2016, the GSGLA Community Partnership Troop Program has engaged with more than 80 youth-serving organizations by providing their staff with curriculum, training and support to start and facilitate Girl Scout troops and clubs for their K-12 students. We provide this at no cost to the organization. Girls in these troops grow in remarkable ways—gaining the courage to explore the outdoors, embrace new challenges, and forge meaningful friendships. Beyond their Girl Scout meetings, they exhibit positive behaviors, collaborate with peers to test ideas, and develop confidence that propels them forward.
Marine Landing & Long Beach WRAP
In summer 2024, girls participating in Girl Scouts through GSGLA’s CPTP with Alvarado Elementary’s Long Beach WRAP (Winners Reaching Amazing Potential) nocost afterschool and summer recess program discovered the magic of GSGLA’s Marine Landing beachfront day camp. For most of the girls, it was their first time at a camp, offering a brand-new world of outdoor exploration, including canoeing. As they paddled across the water in small groups, working together to navigate the waves, they gained confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment that left a lasting impact.

Emerging Leaders/Career Exploration
GSGLA’s Emerging Leaders program provides girls in grades 6-12 the opportunity to take charge of their futures. The program connects them to an inspiring network of changemaking women professionals from diverse industries. They explore their post-high school interests through mentor-guided workshops and experiences.
In 2024, Emerging Leaders had significant growth in relationships with industry experts and partner organizations, most of which are women-owned and operated. More than 400 Girl Scouts participated in 11 programs.
Entrepreneurship Start-Up Day Workshop
On October 21, 2023, PNC Financial Services hosted a women-led Entrepreneurship StartUp Day workshop for Girl Scouts. Guided by mentors from PNC, Girl Scouts dove into the exciting world of innovation, developing new product ideas, designing prototypes, identifying potential customers, and creating and pitching business plans. Thanks PNC’s support, Girl Scouts had the opportunity to express their creativity, think boldly, and build confidence, bringing their unique ideas to life.

Camp/Outdoors
Summer camp is a beloved Girl Scout tradition, and one that's more important now than ever. Many Girl Scouts describe camp as one of the best things about their Girl Scout experience— yet today’s youth are not spending nearly enough time outdoors.
Girl Scout summer camp offers girls a place to unplug, decompress, and nurture their spirits through nature. When girls get outside, they experience positive outcomes including improved mental health, stronger social bonds, deeper appreciation for environmental care and sustainability, and increased happiness.
GSGLA is proud to offer camp at a tremendous cost value to parents and caregivers of girls across Greater LA. And because we believe every girl should experience the magic of Girl Scout camp— regardless of financial circumstance, financial aid "camperships" are available.
In 2024, GSGLA provided an 82% increase, year-over-year, in campership assistance. Thanks to generous donors, GSGLA removed cost as a barrier for 592 campers.
Enhancing the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program with National Recreation Foundation’s (NRF) Mental Health Curriculum at Camp
Last summer, approximately 150 Girl Scouts in grades 9-12 participated in GSGLA’s Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program, a progressive, experiential leadership opportunity that involves mentoring younger girls at GSGLA day and overnight camps.
With the National Recreation Foundation’s (NRF) support, CIT Girl Scouts had the opportunity to take part in MESH (mental, emotional, and social health) training in partnership with the American Camp Association, equipping them with the skills necessary to ensure all girls feel supported throughout their time at camp.

Girl Scouts of California Forward, together.
In order to advance statewide public awareness and focus on gender equity, all eight California Girl Scout councils united in partnership with the California Commission on Women and Girls. Together, we’re working to raise awareness of the power of Girl Scouting and ensure girl-perspective is present in California policymaking through programs and initiatives that encourage girl participation in public life.

Girl Scout Mission
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
