Thank you for joining us at Take the Lead Lehigh Valley. Tonight, in a ceremony led by Girl Scouts from our region, we celebrate four servant leaders nominated by their peers, each of whom is making an impact and serving as important role models for our Girl Scouts.
The honorees’ serve-first mindset is very much aligned with the work Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania is doing in the Lehigh Valley, backed by thousands of volunteers and numerous partners, who are all committed to making sure Girl Scouting remains part of the fabric of this community. We could not thrive like we have here in the Valley without the support of so many generous donors and partners like you.
As part of the program tonight, we will be asking for support that will enable Girl Scouts to go to camp this summer. The impact a week of camp can have on a girl is priceless. From facing challenges and trying new things, to meeting different kinds of people and making new, lifelong friends, Girl Scout Camp changes lives. We are lucky to have a beautiful, wooded oasis right here in the Lehigh Valley. At Camp Mountain House in Allentown, getting into the great outdoors is possible, and with your support tonight, can be a reality for so many more girls.
Finally, we invite you and the girls in your life to join us at another celebration. On May 17, Girl Scouts of Eastern PA is presenting GirlzDay: Our World, Our Way. An all-day expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, GirlzDay will feature dynamic speakers, hands-on activities, and engaging workshops. It’s a girl’s opportunity to explore her potential, dream big, and take charge of her world. We hope you will bring or send a girl you know to experience the fun! Tickets are on sale now at gsep.org/GirlzDay.
Thank you again for your support of these and the many other programs girls across the Lehigh Valley are experiencing. Together, we are ensuring girls are life ready for today and tomorrow.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Nicole LeVine Chair, Board of Directors Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania

Every member of The Dual Temp Company team is proud to support the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. Your dedication to empowering young girls and fostering future leaders is truly inspiring.
We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of the 2025 Take the Lead Honorees. Your commitment shapes the future, and we are honored to be part of a brighter tomorrow.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to nurturing strong, confident, and capable women. Your efforts are making a significant impact on our community and beyond.
Dear Friends,
We are honored to welcome you to this special event. Take the Lead recognizes four outstanding women each year and showcases their impact on our community and tomorrow’s leaders.
Tonight, our mission is to help ensure the trailblazers of tomorrow, right here in our Lehigh Valley, have access to all the benefits Girl Scouts offers. Whether it's broadening their knowledge, building leadership skills, engaging in community service or simply making new friends, Girl Scouts equips young girls with a strong foundation to help them thrive.
A group of extraordinary girls will lead our program this evening. From the flag ceremony to the presenters, the chorus to the skills demonstrations, everything about tonight’s event is girl run, girl managed. Your participation reinforces their belief that anything is possible if you try your best. As they share their stories, pay close attention to the impact Girl Scouts has had on their lives. The organization has opened doors to our youth that may never have been there, widening horizons and opening eyes. We hope that when the opportunity arises this evening, you will each help ensure that Girl Scouts and the girls touched by the program, continues to thrive in the Lehigh Valley.
None of this is possible without the support of generous individuals like you. Tonight, we come together not only to raise vital funds but to honor the values of friendship, teamwork and empowerment that Girl Scouts instill in every girl who walks through their doors.
Sincerely,
Tina Hasselbusch

2025 Take the Lead Honoree
Lori A. Alfonse, DO Deputy Physician-in-Chief
Lehigh Valley Topper
Cancer Institute
Dr. Alfonse is Deputy Physician in Chief of the Lehigh Valley Cancer Topper Institute and is a board-certified and fellowship trained cancer surgeon specializing in breast cancer and benign breast conditions. She is one of the most well-regarded breast cancer surgeons in the country, not to mention a woman in a male-dominated field. She passionately believes in a people-first approach to cancer treatment – moving beyond “survivorship” into “thriver-ship” – and providing personalized, empathetic cancer care that treats people, not diseases. As an oncologist but also as a person who has dealt first-hand with breast cancer in her family, Dr. Alfonse prides herself on developing trust with patients and alleviating their fears and their families’ anxieties by formulating plans and strategizing together. For Dr. Alfonse, it is all about providing peace of mind for patients and their families and this philosophy is brought to life through LVHN’s collaborative multidisciplinary care teams, which Dr. Alfonse partnered to launch, that provide patients with high-quality, coordinated, and holistic care that treats the whole person.
Dr. Alfonse is also passionate about caring for the community and advocating for community cancer education. Whether meeting with local community members, discussing preventative care or cancer screenings at community events or sharing tips on how to navigate a cancer diagnosis at local retirement homes, her mission is to serve the wider community and “find disease before disease can find people. Also, Dr. Alfonse collects shoes and wears a different pair of pink shoes every day of the month in October for breast cancer awareness month.
Congratulations to this year’s Take the Lead honorees!
Olympus is a proud supporter of Girl Scouts of Eastern PA and its mission to build girls of courage, con dence, and character, who make the world a better place.

2025 Take the Lead Honoree
Carolina Hernández
Assistant Dean & Director, Community Service Office
Lehigh University
Born in Miami, Florida, Carolina Hernandez was raised with the understanding that community is at the center of everything. Raised by Cuban immigrants who fled the Castro regime, Carolina's parents instilled the importance of empathy, connection and helping others rise. As the Assistant Dean/Director of Lehigh University's Community Service Office she works to develop students as active citizens who value and contribute to their community by responding to the community voice through meaningful action. Her passion as an educator is grounded in building and developing a positive, reciprocal relationship with the South Bethlehem community.
Carolina arrived in Bethlehem, PA in 2001 to engage in a year of service to the community as an AmeriCorps*VISTA. Partnered with the South Bethlehem Neighborhood Center, Carolina was charged with assessing the capacity of Lehigh's Community Service Office and facilitating relationships with community partners to help solidify the initial foundation of the office. Carolina had the privilege of being part of the movement to bring the community school model to the Lehigh Valley during this time.
After two terms with AmeriCorps, Lehigh University officially hired Carolina to lead the Community Service Office in 2003. Under her tenure, the office grew from one professional staff member to five full-time professional staff and over 20 undergraduate and graduate student employees who coordinate community engagement and leadership development opportunities for both the Lehigh University and South Bethlehem communities. With the closure of the South Bethlehem Neighborhood Center, Carolina advocated for the Homework Club program to be pulled under the Lehigh umbrella, ensuring the continuation of a critical resource for South Bethlehem students.
Carolina holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Political Science from the University of Miami, where she was inducted into the Iron Arrow Honor Society. Considered to be the highest honor one can attain at the U, with fewer than 3,000 inductees since Iron Arrow's founding in 1926, an individual's induction represents a commitment to excellence and service. Carolina also holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University and serves non-profit boards. She has been the recipient of the Vice President's Award for Service from the University of Miami and received the Tradition of Excellence and Alfred Noble Robinson awards from Lehigh University.

Closing Song Lyrics “Make
New Friends”
Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, and the other’s gold.
A circle is round, it has no end. That’s how long, I want to be your friend.
A fire burns bright, it warms the heart. We’ve been friends, from the very start.
You have one hand, I have the other. Put them together, we have each other.
