2025 Take the Lead BERKS COUNTY

Regina Rinehimer

Dear Friends of Girl Scouting,

Thank you for joining us to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Take the Lead in Berks County. Tonight, in a ceremony led by Girl Scouts from our area, we celebrate four servant leaders nominated by their peers – as examples of what a commitment to serve can do to transform lives.

Over the past 30 years, we have come together in Berks County to honor more than one hundred women leaders from the fields of academia, medicine, government, finance, philanthropy, and more. Consistently, these luminaries have cited their ties to the local community as a bedrock of why they serve. From when the program was called “Women of Distinction” to our current format of Take the Lead, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania is proud to continue this tradition of honoring women who make a difference and serve as important role models for our girls.

Your being here to mark this special occasion is a testament to the strength of leadership in the region, and to the commitment of this community to the mission of Girl Scouts: to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

In addition to the activities of numerous troops in the region, our Camp Wood Haven in Pine Grove recently celebrated 70 years of programming. Located at the foot of Blue Mountain in Schuylkill County, campers can enjoy a low ropes course, climbing wall, archery, games, and a large sports field. There are even “tree houses” and Conestoga Wagons!

The impact a week of camp can have on a girl is priceless. From facing challenges and trying new things, to meeting different kinds of people and making new, lifelong friends, Girl Scout Camp changes lives. As part of the program tonight, we will be asking for support that will enable Girl Scouts to go to camp this summer. Getting into the great outdoors is important, and building competencies outdoors creates more confident girls. Your support tonight will enable this possibility.

Finally, we invite you and the girls in your life to join us at another celebration. On May 17, Girl Scouts of Eastern PA is presenting GirlzDay: Our World, Our Way. An all-day expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, GirlzDay will feature dynamic speakers, hands-on activities, and engaging workshops. It’s a girl’s opportunity to explore her potential, dream big, and take charge of her world. We hope you will bring or send a girl you know to experience the fun! Tickets are on sale now at gsep.org/GirlzDay.

Thank you again for your support of these and the many other programs girls across Berks County are experiencing. Together, we are ensuring girls are life ready for today and tomorrow.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

2025 Berks County Take the Lead

Dear Friends,

Welcome to an unforgettable evening!

Tonight, we gather to celebrate four extraordinary women whose impact on our community is shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Their stories inspire us, and their example empowers the next generation of strong, confident young women.

And that’s why we’re here—to ensure that the girls of Berks County have every opportunity to dream big, take on leadership roles, and develop the skills they need to thrive. Through Girl Scouts, they gain confidence, explore new passions, and make a real difference in their communities.

You’ll see this in action tonight, as Girl Scouts take the lead in every aspect of the program—from the flag ceremony to the presenters to the chorus. This event isn’t just for them—it’s led by them, showcasing the power of Girl Scouting in action.

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of this inspiring tradition, we recognize that none of this would be possible without the generosity of people like you. Your support fuels the dreams of our future leaders, ensuring that Girl Scouts continues to thrive here in Berks County.

So, let’s come together to honor leadership, friendship, and empowerment—and to invest in a future where every girl has the opportunity to shine.

Enjoy the evening, and thank you for being part of this incredible mission!

Sincerely,

In Girl Scouts, she has made connections with different groups of people while growing as a leader. The perspectives she gained from events like Take the Lead and Girl Scout camp have helped these skills grow tremendously. Her greatest takeaway from being part of this accepting Girl Scout community is learning how to help and respect others.

In the future, Maggie plans to attend college and hopes to play softball at the collegiate level and professionally. Following her softball career, she would love to coach softball and participate in other organizations that help people get involved in their communities.

Being a Girl Scout has given her confidence, helped her develop leadership qualities and given her a chance to empower younger Girl Scouts to do the same. She is grateful for the many opportunities and new experiences, especially those that impact her local community.

As she thinks about the future, Mackenzie has BIG dreams. Will she own a company, be a neurosurgeon or the first female president? Whatever it is, Mackenzie knows she can accomplish it, and she looks forward to the journey ahead.

In its pilot year, over 100 girls in grades 6-12 are participating in hands-on workshops, connecting with amazing volunteers and mentors, and developing impactful community projects. All participants have the opportunity to earn the prestigious Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award.

The Villa Maria Academy Alumnae congratulate the Take the Lead Berks County honorees.

We salute our own senior, Kaelyn Stek, for earning the Highest Award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award, for her design and execution of the sensory garden at the Althouse Arboretum in Pottstown.
