Hi Girl Scouts!

Are you ready for a new Girl Scout year? I sure am!

Here’s why I’m so excited—the Program Team has been working hard to build a robust selection of activities that will encourage Girl Scouts to take risks, discover new passions, and follow their dreams passionately.

As you flip through the pages, you’ll find the ultimate Girl Scout checklist, designed to guide you through all the exciting opportunities waiting for you this season. From STEM explorations to creative arts to high adventure and more, you’ll find activities for Juliettes, Girl Scouts of all grade levels, and multilevel troops.

And let me just say, Troop Leaders and volunteers, you’ve got this.

Your commitment to building young leaders full of courage, confidence, and character is a powerful way to give back. Because you know as well as I do, the Girl Scouts we serve, they are shaping a better future for all of us. If you need help along the way, the Council team and your local Service Units are here to offer support, training, and program ideas—email us at membershipsupport@gscnc.org.

So, let’s start this new adventure, together.

Community Experience Survey for Adults

Please share your thoughts and opinions!

Soon you will get an email invitation to take part in the 2024 Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital Community Experience Survey. Your ideas are important to us and will help us improve our activities and events. We hope you will take the survey.

What is the survey about?

The survey is about your experiences as an adult with Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, especially as they relate to the inclusiveness of our activities and the feelings of belonging they foster. We want to understand how we are doing and how we can improve to make the Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital welcoming for everyone.

How long will it take?

We hope you will take the time to complete the survey. We think the survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete, but each person’s experience is different.

How do I get the survey?

You will receive an email from our Council’s CEO, Kim R. Ford. When you get this email, just click the “Begin Survey” button and it will open the survey for you.

In what languages is the survey offered?

The survey is available in Arabic, Amharic, English, French, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese. If your internet browser does not automatically convert the survey to your preferred language, you can manually change the survey language using a drop-down menu on the top right of the first page.

Do I have to take the survey?

No, you do not. It is up to you if you want to take the survey – it is voluntary. You may choose not to take the survey. You can also stop taking the survey at any time. Your decision will not affect anything about your participation in Girl Scouts.

How will Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital protect my information?

Girl Scouts will keep your information private. Only staff from our external evaluators will have your survey information. When the evaluators share survey answers or reports, NO names are included. Information will be reported to Girls Scouts in combined format so that no one individual’s responses can be seen.

When is the survey due?

The survey will open in late September. The last day to take the survey October 25, 2024.

Are there incentives for taking the survey?

Yes! The first 1000 participants will receive a $5 Dunkin Donuts gift card. After the survey closes, all participants will be entered into a raffle in which 10 individuals will receive a $100 Walmart gift card!

Who do I contact if I have questions or need help?

For questions about Girl Scouts, please contact Sarah Cornner at 202-534-3772 ext. 262 or scornner@gscnc.org at Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital.

For questions about the survey, please contact our external evaluator, Lydia Oberholtzer at lydia@sharp-insight.com at Sharp Insight, LLC.

Election Connection Patch

The Election Connection patch program helps explain in the election process, teaches Girl Scouts how they can help educate others in their community, and encourages civic engagement. Pursuing this patch during the upcoming presidential election season could help Girl Scouts make sense of the world around them!

In Girl Scouts, you are part of a special group that stretches across the world. On February 22nd of each year, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from over 150 countries celebrate World Thinking Day. That’s one big celebration! World Thinking Day is a way to celebrate with Girl Scouts and Girl Guides everywhere by doing the same activities around a shared theme.

In 2025 the World Thinking Day theme is Our Story: Reflecting the symbolism and values of our Movement. Each year GSUSA provides an updated guide with activities and resources that allow Girl Scouts, Troops or Service Units the opportunity to plan their own fun. Visit link.org to learn more about how you can celebrate and earn your World Thinking Day award!
