Summer Sleep-Away Camps

When a Girl Scout leaves home and embraces the camp life, they learn to make new friends and peers on even ground.

Girl Scouts Nation’s Capita is excited to offer three overnight sleep away camps th s summer at Camp May Flather, Camp Potomac Woods, and Camp W nona. Girl Scouts is about sharing fun, friendship and the inherent power of g rls and women in an inclusive, supportive, girl-led environment. Any gir - from kindergarten through 12th grade- can oin Girl Scouts and attend camp Additionally, if a family w th a ch ld of any other gender identity and express on (other than cisgender ma es) fee s that Girl Scouting is the right community for them, they are welcome at Girl Scout Camp.

When campers s t around the campfire, paddle a canoe, shoot a bow and arrow, or c imb a natural rock wal for the first time, something in them begins to change they gain a sense of pr de by facing their fears, they learn new ski ls and earn to make new fr ends They come home w th a spr ng in their step and a new l ght in their eyes.

Camp is transformative At Gir Scout camp, campers ages 5–17 are encouraged to discover who they are and what they can become while gain ng independence and se f-confidence Trained, caring staff respect and challenge campers, and campers ga n a better understanding of themselves and their leadership potential. Al G rl Scout camp programs are designed with campers’ interests in mind to grow the r passions and take hea thy risks in a safe supportive env ronment.

Get Ready for Adventure: Camp Registration Information

For this sleep-away camp season we will be conducting registration through a lottery system.

The Lottery system wi l be conducted through JotForm and wil take place over the course of several weeks to al ow everyone the opportunity to reg ster their camper. When ready, the lottery survey link w ll be shared on this page. Dur ng the out ined time frame, you should comp ete the form sharing who your camper is, what programs they are most interested in and if they would ike to attend camp at the same time as a buddy or sibl ng. Once the lottery has closed, we wi l ensure all pairings are accounted for and then w ll send out placements v a email That email w ll inc ude an individualized link al owing you to register your camper for the program they have been placed in. Should your camper be placed with a buddy or sib ing their personalized placement links wi l be sent at the same time.

Sleep-away camp s open to all youth completing grades K – 11 and careg vers who attend our Me and My Pal overnight programs.

Any youth or adult who s not a current member s welcome to attend sleep-away camp but they must register and become a Girl Scout Nation s Capital member at mygs.girlscouts.org.

Camp Potomac Woods

Leesburg, VA

Camp Potomac Woods provides the perfect getaway for Girl Scouts!

Located in Leesburg, VA Potomac Woods offers a variety of specialty theme programs that range from two-nights to one week in a fun, safe, and trad tiona camp setting. Full of creativity and imagination, all programs provide campers the opportunity to explore the outdoors while having the time of their ives!

Wh le at camp, campers wil enjoy meals prov ded by a professional food serv ce, and fu l-week campers wi l cook at least one camper-led meal over the fire Campers sleep on cots with mattresses, covered by a camp-provided bug net in screened glen shelters without electricity or air conditioning Campers w ll enjoy awesome activities such as swimm ng at the pool, arts & crafts outdoor cook ng, STEM, and target sports l ke archery, slingshots tomahawks, or knife throw ng! But that s not all Campers w ll also partic pate in many wonderful Camp Potomac Woods tradit ons, including campfires, sing ng, and maybe even a hike to explore the Pooh Tree or River Walk! Me and My Pal

Bring your favorite adult to Camp Potomac Woods and see what S eep-Away Camp is all about! You wi l experience the best parts of camp, including target sports, arts and crafts nature exploration and of course, s’mores! Trained camp staff w ll provide all of the activities and careg vers will provide supervision for their campers. All attendees, campers and adults must be currently registered members of G rl Scouts Nation’s Capital, w th the except on of preK campers. A perfect camp for both new and returning campers, Camp Winona allows campers to explore the wonders of the outdoors in a fun, safe, traditional camp setting.

Teen Leadership Opportunities

Our leadership programs allow campers in grades 9+ to mentor younger campers and learn how rewarding it is to be camp staff. After campers complete the f rst Counselor-in-Train ng (CIT) two week program, they can move on to the more advanced CIT II program and/or enhance their skil s in our Jun or Counselor (JC) program.

Located in Hughesvi le, MD, Winona offers a wide variety of programs ranging from weeklong themed specia ty activ ties to two-night minicamps

While at camp, campers wi l enjoy meals provided by a professional food service and cook at least one camper-led meal over the fire. Campers sleep on cots w th mattresses covered by a camp-provided bug net n screened g en she ters with a fan and no a r conditioning.

Campers will safely exp ore all camp has to offer including swimm ng in the pool tie-dying exploring nature teambui ding cha lenges, and taking aim at target sports Campers may also see one of the magical mermairies (the camp mascot) as they h ke to visit at least one of Camp W nona’s destination locat ons during the r stay: Fossil Creek Mermairy House or Hammock Village. Camp May Flather

At Camp May Flather, campers unplug and soak in the scenic George Washington National Forest, while experiencing high adventure.

Campers choose from a ton of amazing activities, including explor ng nature while hiking or backpacking, challenging themselves through natural rock climb ng, cav ng canoe ng, and rafting. All campers participate n swimming, arts & crafts, archery climb ng tower, teambuild ng, and games.

During the r stay, Campers sleep on cots with mattresses, covered by a campprovided bug net in screened glen shelters or platform tents without electricity or air conditioning. They will enjoy meals prepared by a professiona food serv ce, with at least one camper-led cookout over a f re Campers will en oy trad tions such as campfires wish sticks, theme days. Challenge by Choice is a practice fol owed at Camp May Flather Campers are encouraged to try new things and push themselves but are not forced to participate n activ ties they re not comfortable with.
