Alleged scam now exceeds 500,000€ 13 - 19 JULY 2012
FOLLOWING RTN’s article two weeks ago, even more couples have contacted us to tell us that they too had invested in the alleged Owner’s International scam, bringing the total amount of money invested to more than half a million euros. by louise Clarke
Mr and Mrs James from Quesada also invested in the Terrazas de la Torre Golf development; more than £18,000 (20,486€). They too were wooed by sales representatives after agreeing to go on a ‘blanket trip’ to Cartagena and they too never actually got there. “We are giving you a change of scenery,” commented a young salesman called Scott to the couple after they inquired why they weren’t going to Cartagena and they were also held ‘hostage’ at the office in San Javier for more than five hours. A LOT OF MONEY Mr and Mrs James have been lucky though (well if you call it that) as they have received some returns on their investment, but 20,000€ in these tough economic times, is a hell of a lot of money to lose. Mr James, a former prison officer, told RTN: “We were due payment a couple of months ago and I have been chasing them everyday. I only realised that it may be a scam after I read RTN’s article.” The RTN invited the people behind this investWyers invested ment ‘scam’ to contact us to put forward their £12,500 side of the story, but they have been conspicuin a ous in their silence. project that doesn’t even exist
CAR PARK Meanwhile, Mr and Mrs Wyer from Orihuela Costa have also been left out of pock-
et. They have invested more than £12,500 (15,000€) in a project called Jardines de Guaro in the Costa del Sol. RTN has investigated this development and this week discovered from the Guaro Town Hall that they have never even received an application to develop the land, let alone it actually existing. “It is used as a car park,” they told us. Like all the other cases, all the documentation is in English and the payments made in Sterling. Ironically on the bottom of the contract, with photocopied signatures of the company boss, Terry Cheshire, it states “This is an important document. You should take independent legal and other advice before signing and only sign if you want to be legally bound.” TOO GOOD TO MISS When RTN asked Mr and Mrs Wyer if they sought independent legal advice before signing, they said: “A lady called Katrina said that she was an independent legal advisor and she told us that the opportunity was ‘too good to miss’, so we signed, but obviously ‘Katrina’ was in on the scam too!” Mrs Wyer added: “My stomach went in my boots when I read RTN’s article. I just wish that we hadn’t been so gullible.” Once again RTN invites anyone who was involved in this company to contact louise@roundtownnews.com in order so that we can put forward your side of the story.
