Welcome to our world
S
iamo circondati da alcune delle montagne piÚ belle d’Europa e per questo pensiamo che la gestione ambientale sia non solo la cosa giusta da fare, ma soprattutto una necessità . Fin dalla fase di progettazione del nostro hotel siamo stati attenti a garantire che le ultime tecnologie di efficienza energetica e rispettose del clima fossero integrate nella costruzione e negli ultimi 5 anni abbiamo continuato a fare investimenti per ridurre il nostro impatto ecologico in termini positivi. Partendo da una filosofia secondo cui ogni piccola azione fa la differenza, queste emergenze ambientali hanno spinto il General Manager e i proprietari del Montana Lodge & Spa a cercare in modo dettagliato di ridurre gli sprechi, in modo da raggiungere la massima efficienza delle risorse. Speriamo che i nostri clienti si impegnino con noi, ci diano feedback sui nostri sforzi, suggeriscano ulteriori idee. Da parte nostra, siamo convinti che ogni sforzo in questa direzione, per quanto piccolo sia utile.

We are surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains in Europe and for this reason we think that environmental management is not only the right thing to do, but also a necessity. Right from design phase of our hotel we were careful to make sure the latest energy efficiency and climate friendly technologies would be integrated into the construction, and in the past 5 years we have continued to make investments to reduce our ecological footprint. Starting from a philosophy that every small action makes a difference, these ecological emergencies have prompted the General Manager and shareholders of Montana Lodge & Spa to look in a detailed way to ensure wastage is reduced, so that we reach maximum resource efficiency. We hope our customers will engage with us, give us feedback on our efforts, suggest more ideas. raiettorie Liquide” è il mio progetto iniziato nel 2017 per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica nei confronti dell’inquinamento marino, che evidenzia la sostenibilità e il valore dell’acqua come risorsa limitata e non infinita. Con le prime due “traiettorie” in acqua - quando mi sono immersa con la mia tenuta da competizione - ho cercato di suscitare una nuova coscienza, un invito al cambiamento di mentalità nei confronti dei rifiuti. Poiché il Montana Lodge & Spa di La Thuile segue da sempre un progetto “green” di responsabilità ambientale, ho accettato con entusiasmo di segnalare ai lettori di questo Magazine il mio appoggio e condivisione all’impronta ecologica dell’hotel, legata al rispetto della natura e al risparmio dell’acqua, un impegno che tutti noi dovremmo promuovere e diffondere con costanza e consapevolezza.

"Traiettorie Liquide" is the project I started in 2017 to raise public awareness of marine pollution, which highlights the sustainability and value of water as a limited and not infinite resource. With the first two "traiettorie" in water - when I was immersed in my race outfit - I tried to create a new awareness, an invitation to change minds about waste. Since the Montana Lodge & Spa in La Thuile has always followed a “green” project of environmental responsibility, I enthusiastically accepted the chance to report to the readers of this Magazine my support and the sharing of the ecological footprint of the hotel, linked to respect for nature and to saving water, a commitment that we should all promote and spread with consistency and awareness.

The bar - In a welcoming, relaxed and contemporary environment, Federico Cova - a skilled bar manager with lots of experience in Italy and abroad - delights guests with a particular selection of Signature Cocktails, a wide selection of Italian and foreign spirits and a collection of rum and whiskey. The strong point are the Montana Spritz: they vary seasonally and are made with herbs, flowers and mountain fruits. All with the supervision of Ernesto Lechthaler, a world wide well known mixologist. The wine cellar - The cosy cellar, which can also be booked for private dinners or tastings for up to 12 people, is the realm of Annarita Granata, a teacher at the international school of Italian cuisine ALMA and a passionate and prepared professional sommelier. It holds about 500 vintage references from all over Italy and the world, with a special focus on the best wines of the Aosta Valley.

ai iniziato la tua collaborazione con il Montana Lodge & Spa nell’estate 2019: prima ti trovavi a Shanghai per seguire altri progetti, sempre nel settore hôtellerie di lusso, cosa ti ha spinto a tornare in Italia? In Valle d’Aosta ho gestito l’apertura del Grand Hotel Mont Blanc di Courmayeur, nel 2014; si tratta quindi di un territorio che conosco - e apprezzo - da tempo. Proprio per questo ho scelto di intraprendere questa nuova avventura a La Thuile, coadiuvato da uno staff che ho selezionato personalmente. I tuoi studi hanno segnato le tue scelte di vita? Senz’altro: ho studiato presso la scuola alberghiera E. Zegna di Biella, la mia città natale, e successivamente mi sono diplomato alla Hotel Management School Les Roches a Crans-Montana, in Svizzera. Sono manager del settore turistico e alberghiero da sempre ed è curioso come il mio percorso di studi sia stato sempre e indissolubilmente legato alla montagna. Nel resto della tua carriera lavorativa, invece? Ho lavorato per diverse catene internazionali, tra le quali Shangri-la in Cina e Taiwan, Le Meridien Piccadilly a Londra, il gruppo Mövenpick in Svizzera. In Italia, oltre a Courmayeur, ho seguito Porto Piccolo Sistiana e l’apertura di svariate strutture nel settore luxury.
Attualmente quali sono i nuovi trend del mercato del lusso? La presa di coscienza di iniziare a muoversi nel rispetto dell’ambiente, come già facciamo in questa struttura: per rispettare la montagna e la natura circostante, invece di riciclare soltanto cerchiamo proprio di non utilizzare i materiali inquinanti. Quindi niente bottiglie né cannucce di plastica, acqua microfiltrata, borracce in omaggio ai nostri clienti e una linea di cortesia studiata ad hoc.
You started your collaboration with the Montana Lodge & Spa in the summer of 2019: before that you were in Shanghai to follow other projects, always in the luxury hotel sector. What prompted you to return to Italy? In the Aosta Valley I managed the opening of the Grand Hotel Mont Blanc in Courmayeur, in 2014; it is therefore a territory that I have known - and appreciated - for some time. Precisely for this reason I chose to embark on this new adventure in La Thuile, assisted by a staff that I personally selected. Have your studies marked your life choices? Without a doubt: I studied at the E. Zegna Hotel Management School in Biella, my hometown, and then I graduated from the Les Roches Hotel Management School in CransMontana, Switzerland. I have always been a manager in the tourism and hotel sector, and it is curious how my studies have always been inextricably linked to the mountains.
What about the rest of your career? I have worked for several international chains, including Shangri-la in China and Taiwan, Le Meridien Piccadilly in London, the Mövenpick group in Switzerland. In Italy, besides Courmayeur, I followed Porto Piccolo Sistiana and the opening of various structures in the luxury sector. At the moment what are the new trends in the luxury sector? The awareness of starting to move in respect of the environment, as we already do in this structure: to respect the mountain and the surrounding nature, instead o onlyf recycling we try not to use polluting materials. So, no bottles or plastic straws, microfiltered water, free reusable bottles for our customers and a specially designed line of amenities.

a Thuile: cosa puoi raccontarci di questo comprensorio sciistico e quali sono le caratteristiche delle sue piste? Si tratta di un comprensorio molto vasto, che offre 160 km di piste collegati internazionalmente con la stazione di La Rosière, in Francia. Ci sono 38 impianti di risalita e ben 74 piste per tutti i livelli, con scenari di rara bellezza e un panorama mozzafiato. Tra tutte le discese spicca la numero 3, una pista nera con una pendenza del 73% dedicata a Franco Berthod, campione locale che ha scritto la storia dello sci alpino. Proprio la pista 3 ospiterà, il 29 febbraio e il 1° marzo 2020, due gare della Coppa del Mondo di sci alpino femminile. Gli ospiti del Montana Lodge possono aspettarsi un servizio sciistico esclusivo? Ai clienti offro un servizio completo a 360°: ci ritroviamo in hotel e li assisto nel noleggio dell’eventuale attrezzatura sportiva; poi possiamo sciare a La Thuile o in altre stazioni (Courmayeur, Pila, Chamonix). Oltre a prenotare ristoranti e attività

Can Montana Lodge guests expect an exclusive ski service? I offer customers a complete 360° service: I meet them at the hotel and I assist them in hiring any sports equipment; then we can ski in La Thuile or in other resorts (Courmayeur, Pila, Chamonix). In addition to booking restaurants and other activities, I organize videos and photo shoots in the snow, walks with snowshoes, scenic flights in hot-air balloons and helicopters. Of course, children and beginners are welcome too!
La Thuile: what can you tell us about this ski area and what are the characteristics of its slopes? It is a very large resort, which offers 160 km of slopes connected internationally with the La Rosière ski area in France. There are 38 lifts and 74 runs for all levels, with scenarios of rare beauty and a breath-taking panorama. Among all the descents the number 3 stands out, a black run with a 73% gradient dedicated
