VANITA HALLIBURTON “Coach, I’m feeling a lot of stress about some stuff that’s going on.”

The 8th-grade girl wanted to let someone know she was struggling.

The coach replied, “You don’t know what stress is until you’re a grown-up with bills to pay and kids to raise.”

She hesitated only a moment. “Actually,” the student replied, “this year I learned that even though I don’t know what it’s like to pay bills or raise kids, my stress is real to me and it’s valid.”

Earlier this year, the student heard a Grant Halliburton Foundation presentation about the impact of stress on mental and emotional health.

This is what we teach students: stress is real, it’s the leading trigger for depression, and it is manageable.

We know that education is the key to ending the stigma around mental health and empowering people to recognize and respond to signs of psychological distress.

I love hearing stories like this.

Grant Halliburton Foundation has experienced tremendous growth in its 12-year history. During this time, we’ve delivered mental health and suicide prevention training to more than 73,700 students, teachers, parents and professionals—31,500 of those in 2017 alone.

We’re still growing. This year, we will launch a mental health navigation line to assist people with finding the mental health resources they need. We are adding another educator to our staff to meet the rising demand for our educational presentations. We are forging new partnerships to broaden the scope and impact of our programs in the community. We are educating more people, encouraging more parents through our peer support groups, collaborating more through our community relationships, and connecting more people with options in mental health care.

VANITA HALLIBURTON “Coach, I’m feeling a lot of stress about some stuff that’s going on.”

The 8th-grade girl wanted to let someone know she was struggling.

The coach replied, “You don’t know what stress is until you’re a grown-up with bills to pay and kids to raise.”

She hesitated only a moment. “Actually,” the student replied, “this year I learned that even though I don’t know what it’s like to pay bills or raise kids, my stress is real to me and it’s valid.”

Earlier this year, the student heard a Grant Halliburton Foundation presentation about the impact of stress on mental and emotional health.

This is what we teach students: stress is real, it’s the leading trigger for depression, and it is manageable.

We know that education is the key to ending the stigma around mental health and empowering people to recognize and respond to signs of psychological distress.

I love hearing stories like this.

Grant Halliburton Foundation has experienced tremendous growth in its 12-year history. During this time, we’ve delivered mental health and suicide prevention training to more than 73,700 students, teachers, parents and professionals—31,500 of those in 2017 alone.

We’re still growing. This year, we will launch a mental health navigation line to assist people with finding the mental health resources they need. We are adding another educator to our staff to meet the rising demand for our educational presentations. We are forging new partnerships to broaden the scope and impact of our programs in the community. We are educating more people, encouraging more parents through our peer support groups, collaborating more through our community relationships, and connecting more people with options in mental health care.
