What’s in the name? A space slingshot, otherwise known as gravity assist, uses existing momentum to move rockets around space. We will be sharing news and information around our regions each month, about some of the eight hundred plus applications we use at GHD, to add to the momentum our service lines are gaining on their transformation enterprises.
Forge project portal - customised cloud-based model viewer We have been putting Autodesk’s Forge cloud based platform through its paces to see what it can add to the way we deliver projects. Forge promises a customised application, that can connect the many layers of various data and work-flows from design, modeling, planning, scheduling, costing, to maintenance and operations, all of which are captured in different applications and in different file types, in one flexible application. The output can then be shared and viewed in an interactive live cloud based environment. We have only explored the tip of Forge’s iceberg, but we think this could be a game changer.

Reality modelling with ContextCapture making confined spaces more accessible Bentley’s ContextCapture takes simple photos of infrastructure (of all types), and quickly converts them into precise, highly detailed reality models, complete with existing conditions, that can be used throughout the life-cycle of the infrastructure. The opportunities this creates for our projects is far reaching and one GHD team has found it has completely changed the way they work.

Case study - master planning automation with GHD’s Ahmed Hamdy Like all project delivery professionals, Urban Planners and Designers are faced with challenges they must overcome to create environmentally, socially, and economically viable developments that meet and exceed client and community expectations. Together with Autodesk, Ahmed Hamdy and his team, have developed a work-flow automation that addresses these challenges and provides the opportunity for real time testing, option development and project database creation.

AutoCAD 2018 Software upgrade The AutoCAD 2018 Software upgrade is now ready for deployment. This new version offers a number of improvements, features, fixes and updates. These include improvements to AutoCAD’s PDF and Text capabilities, external reference controls and object selection. GHD’s AutoCAD Software Manager Barrie Thom has reviewed the upgrade and captured what’s staying the same, what’s changing and what you need to know before you upgrade. Older versions (2015 and older) of AutoCAD are no longer licensed or supported so now is the time to upgrade.
