LA bound

LOCAL PROFILE

Gold Coast actor Miyuki Lotz is heading to Los Angeles this month where she’ll mix with hot Hollywood casting directors, but it’s inspiring other mums that she enjoys most What are you doing in LA? I got into the Professional Actor’s Masterclass through the Australian Institute of Performing Arts (AIPA). It’s a six-week intensive, which allows us to work closely with many prestigious US casting directors, as well as various managers and agents. Entry is via audition only and I am still pinching myself on getting in! How did you get into acting? I always took drama throughout my schooling years and completed the entire AMEB Speech and Drama syllabus as an extra curriculum. However, I only completely immersed myself into an acting career when I had finished a career in ballet. I got together with (my current) dialect/acting coach and she helped me audition for the BFA in Acting degree at QUT. They only accepted 12 candidates across Australia that year and somehow I was one of them. Was it a life-long passion? Yes! Since the age of three I’ve wanted to pursue acting as a full-time career. I’m lucky to have such a supportive husband and family surrounding me. What’s your earliest memory of acting? Presenting this in-house play for all the

integrated families at Christmas time. I think I was five or six. I directed and wrote this spinoff of every Disney princess movie and The Wizard of Oz combined. What are your dreams and aspirations with your career? I’m going to shoot for the moon here and say…winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in a leading role. Alternatively, I would love to be a part of the main cast in a really well-written and long-running TV show like Glee, CSI, Law & Order: SVU or Supernatural. What are your tips for other women? You have the potential to live the life you truly want. Listen to your needs but be insightful to those around you. This may fluctuate on a daily basis and you need to just go with it. Have a loving relationship with yourself. Make time for me time by journaling, getting a massage, going to a movie solo, reading an insightful book or meditating. These moments of reflection will help you realise what it is you really want from life and to be grateful for what you have.
