Introduction to GETA (Freshmen)

“The month of December was time crunched for the freshmen. We started our final which had consisted of a slide presentation, group or solo. Then on Friday,

“It was a short and quick month for GETA Freshmen. We worked on our wix websites to made improvements for the history and future. Later, we learned how to solder using a heat gun, heat tubes, liquid tape, h1eat wand, and thin metal

GETA II (Juniors) On the UC Davis field trip, students learned how to use an EV calculator (calculates the cost of driving various cars over a period of time), the basics about EV’s (terms, future ideas, chargers, models, and more), various aspects of the Honda Smart Home, future concepts for city designs, future concepts for EV’s, how biomass energy works, and facts about UC Davis’s biomass “Digester”.

In the Happy Valley Dairy Project, students learned a little about what civil and environmental engineering is like, along with what such jobs in those fields may entail. Throughout the project, students were also required to develop and apply basic trigonometric skills and spreadsheet coding skills. Moreover, students were introduced to new terms and concepts, such as: impulse turbines, reaction turbines, fish ladders, and alternate hydro-electricity power generation designs and concepts.

For the Junior classes’ Semester 1 final, students were tasked with creating a google slides presentation about: the theme of water showing up in their other GETA classes, skills learned in GETA that they applied outside of class, a Wix item they were most proud of, and an explanation of how energy transfers from “Source to Socket” on one of 3 energy sources (Natural gas, Hydro-electricity, or Biomass). Students then had to record themselves presenting and publish it on their Wix websites.

GETA III (Seniors)

“In our senior GETA class, we finished making our hydraulic arms and further tested them. We tested if we could successfully move the arm and rotate it. One of our goals was to pick up a soda can, move it one foot into the air, and place it onto a shelf.” JONATHAN CRUZ

“For the month of December, the GETA III class worked on three different assignments: learning OSHA safety rules through an online course, building a cardboard robotic arm to move a soda can, and creating a labeled HDPE board diagram using Rhinoceros in under 90 minutes.” AARON GEE

Winter Potluck “We had many snacks, foods, and desserts. It was really nice and cozy with a movie (Home Alone) playing in the front room and games were being played in the back room. JONATHAN CRUZ
