Alumni in Action

Unrivaled dedication—Glynn Mathis (’51) received the Aeolian Award from President Moses. The Aeolian Award is the highest GSW alumni award. In 10 years Mathis never missed an Alumni Board of Directors meeting.

Not-just-for-golf club car — The Alumni Association purchased a new golf cart (in GSW blue) so they could show off the beautiful campus to returning alums. The Association is gracious enough to let other departments around campus use the cart when needed, as well.

Dancing the night away— Alums sang and danced along with the band “Shimmer” following other alumni festivities earlier in the day.

Bringing ‘em back—Sonja Duggar (’79), left, was the 2012 Leewynn J. Finklea Award winner. Alumni President Doug Moses (’97), right, recognized her efforts at the Awards Brunch in organizing a successful reunion for the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Anything you can do… —Everyone had a good time listening to the back and forth musical banter.

Daddy/daughter date—Mike Dalton (’06) and his daughter enjoyed the tailgate cookout prior to the homecoming basketball games.

True Servant—Len Hicks (’75), left, received the 2013 Leewynn J. Finklea Award for his dedicated service to Georgia Southwestern. Len is well known for his service to the Americus community as well.

The Chief—GSW Public Safety Chief Oris Bryant, right, was given the GSW Staff Award sponsored by the Alumni Association. Alumni Board Member Lemond Hall (’98) presented Bryant with the award.

Brotherly love—Alumni Awards Brunch keynote speaker Rashid Castle-Ali (’99) told a touching story about donating one of his kidneys to a fellow alum and fraternity brother.

Hurricane royalty—Tony Miller, Jr. and Ashanti Brown were crowned 2013 Homecoming King and Queen.

Still ready to play—The class of ’65 men’s basketball team reunited during alumni weekend.
