Jessi Young has Record Season, Named Peach Belt Freshman of the Year in Women's Cross Country

Highlighted by three recordbreaking performances, Cochran native Jessi Young was honored as the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in addition to being named to the PBC All- Conference Second Team.

Young’s first school record occurred when she finished in second place with a time of 21:12 at the 3rd Annual Georgia Southwestern Remembrance Run.

She went on to capture her first career collegiate event as she topped her own school record to capture the individual title at the four-team Darton College Invite with a time of 20:41.

Young then went on to break the school record once again at the Point University Invitational, finishing third overall with a time of 20:03.

At the PBC Championships, she led Georgia Southwestern to the best finish in program history as the Lady ‘Canes finished in 10th place. Young finished in 8th place on the individual side with a time of 23:11.

“Jessi had a great first-year running with us this season. Every race was a great race for her,” said Georgia Southwestern head coach Brittney Skiles. “She has a bright future and I’m really looking forward to seeing how much she accomplishes in the years ahead.”
