[SPACE] SPACE employs the tectonic method to construct a series of iterative models that produce different spatial relationships between cubes and surfaces. It incorporates methods of creating and subdividing voids, rotating cubes, and inserting planes to break the 6’’ boundary.

By situating the cubes in different settings and scale figures, I distinguish them into human-scale, architectural scale, and urban scale.

Primitive Figures

[FORM] FORM develops a conceptualized 3D form from an iterative process, from 2D to 3D. Starting with primitive figures created by adding and subtracting geometries, the project evolves into physical volumetric models.

Then, the project shifts back to 2D by producing digital elevations from the physical primitive form.

Finally, the project moves again to 3D digital models that explore distinct form-making techniques in Rhino.

[ Primative Models ] A physical model that uses extrusion and the language of lofting. The model extrudes the primitive figure into different geometries at the top through adding and subtracting surfaces and volumes.

“REFLECTION” -- Contempla

[SURFACE] SURFACE advances on articulations of spaces by utilizing materiality, texture, and pattern inside the interior space. The project explores physical materials such as mirrors and woods to envoke an atmospheric environment. SURFACE also incorporates 2D digital collages that express the materiality in the physical models.

Spatial Buoyancy Study Model Of E-1027

[ Spatial Buoyancy ] In physics, an object with a higher density is more likely to sink.

Thus, I distributed different buoyancy levels to the precedent and my pavilion diagram, spaces with a higher density are more buoyant than the others.

[PAVILION] RED YELLOW BLUE Pavilion embodies Villa E-1027’s arrangement of walls to develop a theoretical approach to wall hierarchies. The pavilion embodies concepts of spatial density. These walls are used to define space, enclosure, and repelling effect.

The space becomes more compact when bounded with more walls, which leads to higher spatial density and higher privacy levels.

The pavilion controls the number and lengths of walls to create spatial quadrants with different densities, privacy, and program functionality.

Spaces with different densities are abstracted into rectangular compositions, assigned RED, YELLOW, and BLUE, the primary colors. Brighter colors correspond to lower spatial density.

Blocks inside the physical model act as analysis that illustrates different properties of the spaces bounded by various walls.

Yellow: bounded in a box but can travel freely Red: bounded in a box and expelled by facets of the space. Less public.

Blue: most private, rather than expel, space pulled the person inwards because of its high density.
