You call it Easter, We call it Ostara Author: Peg Aloi Uncovered by Geo

Try this sometime with your children or a young niece, nephew or cousin: on the day of the Vernal or Autumnal Equinox, just a few moments before the exact moment of the equinox, go outside with a raw egg. Find a reasonably level place on the sidewalk or driveway. For a few moments just before and just after the equinox, you can balance the egg upright (wider end down) by simply setting it down on the ground. No kidding! It will stand up all by itself. Kids love this, and most adults are amazed and delighted, too. This little “trick” brings together two of the most potent aspects of this holiday: the balancing of the earth’s gravity midway between the extremes of light and dark at Winter and Summer Solstice; and the symbolism of the egg. The egg is one of the most notable symbols of Easter, but, as someone who was raised Catholic and who was never told exactly why we colored eggs at Easter, or why there was a bunny who delivered candy to us, or why it was traditional to buy new clothes to wear for church on Easter Sunday, I always wondered about this holiday. As with many of the seemingly unrelated secular symbols and traditions of Christmas (what do evergreen trees, mistletoe, reindeer and lights have to do with the birth of Christ?

You might wanna read “You Call It Christmas, We Call It Yule” for an exploration of these connections), Easter too has adapted many ancient pagan symbols and customs in its observance. Easter gets its name from the Teutonic goddess of spring and the dawn, whose name is spelled Oestre or Eastre (the origin of the word “east” comes from various Germanic, Austro-Hungarian words for dawn that share the root for the word “aurora” which means “ to shine”). Modern pagans have generally accepted the spelling “Ostara” which honors this goddess as our word for the Vernal Equinox. The 1974 edition of Webster’s New World Dictionary defines Easter thus: “orig., name of pagan vernal festival almost coincident in date with paschal festival of the church; Eastre, dawn goddess; 1. An annual Christian festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, held on the first Sunday after the date of the first full moon that occurs on or after March 21.” The Vernal Equinox usually falls somewhere between March 19th and 22nd (note that the dictionary only mentions March 21st, as opposed to the date of the actual Equinox), and depending upon when the first full moon on or after the Equinox occurs, Easter falls sometime between late-March and mid-April.

Because the Equinox and Easter are so close, many Catholics and others who celebrate Easter often see this holiday (which observes Christ’s resurrection from the dead after his death on Good Friday) as being synonymous with rebirth and rejuvenation: the symbolic resurrection of Christ is echoed in the awakening of the plant and animal life around us. But if we look more closely at some of these Easter customs, we will see that the origins are surprisingly, well, pagan! Eggs, bunnies, candy, Easter baskets, new clothes, all these “traditions” have their origin in practices which may have little or nothing to do with the Christian holiday. For example, the traditional coloring and giving of eggs at Easter has very pagan associations. For eggs are clearly one of the most potent symbols of fertility, and spring is the season when animals begin to mate and flowers and trees pollinate and reproduce. In England and Northern Europe, eggs were often employed in folk magic when women wanted to be blessed with children. There is a great scene in the film The Wicker Man where a woman sits upon a tombstone in the cemetery, holding a child against her bared breasts with one hand, and holding up an egg in the other, rocking back and forth as she stares at the scandalized (and very uptight!) Sargent Howie. Many cultures have a strong tradition of egg coloring; among Greeks, eggs are traditionally dyed dark red and given as gifts.

As for the Easter egg hunt, a fun game for kids, I have heard at least one pagan teacher say that there is a rather scary history to this. As with many elements of our “ancient history, “ there is little or no factual documentation to back this up. But the story goes like this: Eggs were decorated and offered as gifts and to bring blessings of prosperity and abundance in the coming year; this was common in Old Europe. As Christianity rose and the ways of the “Old Religion” were shunned, people took to hiding the eggs and having children make a game out of finding them. This would take place with all the children of the village looking at the same time in everyone’s gardens and beneath fences and other spots.

It is said, however, that those people who sought to seek out heathens and heretics would bribe children with coins or threats, and once those children uncovered eggs on someone’s property, that person was then accused of practicing the old ways. I have never read any historical account of this, so I cannot offer a source for this story (though I assume the person who first told me found it somewhere); when I find one, I will let you know! When I first heard it, I was eerily reminded of the way my own family conducted such egg hunts: our parents hid money inside colorful plastic eggs that could be opened and closed up again; some eggs contained pennies, some quarters and dimes and nickels, and some lucky kids would find a fiftycent piece or silver dollar! In our mad scramble for pocket change, were my siblings and cousins and I mimicking the treacherous activities of children so long ago?

Ostara Cont.

Traditional foods play a part in this holiday, as with so many others. Ham is the traditional main course served in many families on Easter Sunday, and the reason for this probably has to do with the agricultural way of life in old Europe. In late fall, usually in October, also known as the month of the Blood Moon, because it referred to the last time animals were slaughtered before winter, meats were salted and cured so they would last through the winter. Poorer people, who subsisted on farming and hunting, would often eat very sparingly in winter to assure their food supply would last. With the arrival of spring, there was less worry, and to celebrate the arrival of spring and of renewed abundance, they would serve the tastiest remaining cured meats, including hams. This also marked a seasonal end to eating cured foods and a return to eating fresh game (as animals emerged from hibernation looking for food), and no longer relying on stored root vegetables, but eating the young green plants so full of the vitamins and minerals that all living beings need to replenish their bodies in spring.

Modern pagans can observe these same customs by eating the fresh greens and early vegetables abundant now: dandelion greens, nettles, asparagus, and the like. There are some Witches who believe that fasting at the Equinox is very healthy and magical: it clears away all the toxins stored over winter, when we eat heavier foods to keep warm, and can create an altered state of consciousness for doing Equinox magic. By eliminating all the “poisons” from our diets for a few days (including sugar, caffeine, alcohol, red meats, dairy products, refined foods), and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, we not only can shed a few pounds and improve the appearance of our hair and skin, but also improve our health over the long term. The overall benefit to health from an occasional cleansing fast helps strengthen our immune system, making our bodies more resistant to illness, and help us feel more alert and energetic. Try it! Be sure to “break” your fast slowly, reintroducing your normal foods one at a time, instead of going from several days of fruits, grains and herbal tea to a feast of steak, potatoes and chocolate cake! The breaking of the fast can be incorporated into the cakes and wine portion of your ritual, or at the feast many Witches have afterwards.

Speaking of food, another favorite part of Easter for kids, no doubt, is that basket of treats! Nestled in plastic “grass” colored pink or green, we’d find foil-wrapped candy eggs, hollow chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, marshmallow chicks (in pink, yellow or lavender!), fancy peanut butter or coconut eggs from Russell Stover, and of course our Mom always included one of the beautiful ceramic eggs she painted by hand. Like that other holiday where children are inundated with sugar (Hallowe’en), no one seems to know precisely where, when or how this custom began. And why are the baskets supposedly brought by a bunny??? Ostara Cont.

There are some modern Witches and pagans who follow traditions that integrate the faery lore of the Celtic countries. It is customary to leave food and drink out for the fairies on the nights of our festivals, and it is believed that if the fairies are not honored with gifts at these times, they will work mischief in our lives. Certain holidays call for particular “fairy favorites.” At Imbolc/Oimelc (February 2nd), for example, we leave gifts of dairy origin, like cheese, butter or fresh cream. At Lammas/Lughnasa (August 1st) we leave fresh grains or newly-baked bread. At Samhain, nuts and apples are traditional. And at Ostara, it is customary to leave something sweet (honey, or mead, or candy)-could this be connected to the Easter basket tradition? Perhaps a gift of sweets corresponds to the sweet nectar gathering in new spring flowers?

transformed into a hare upon her death. Clearly this is an illustration of the powerful association with animals that many ancient cultures have (Summerisle being a place where time has seemingly stood still and where the pagan pursuit of pleasure and simple agricultural ways define the way of life). The forming of candy into the shape of rabbits or chicks is a way to acknowledge them as symbols; by eating them, we take on their characteristics, and enhance our own fertility, growth and vitality.

For clearly the association of rabbits with Easter has something to do with fertility magic. Anyone who has kept rabbits as pets or knows anything about their biology has no question about the origin of the phrase “f*** like a bunny.” These cute furry creatures To refer again to The Wicker reproduce rapidly, and often! Same Man, the post office/candy shop with chicks, who emerge wobbly and where May Morrison works (she is slimy from their eggs only to become the mother of Rowan Morrison, the fluffy, yellow and cute within a few young girl who is supposedly missing hours. The Easter Bunny may well have and who Sargent Howie has come its origin in the honoring of rabbits to Summerisle to find) offers a large in spring as an animal sacred to the selection of candies shaped like goddess Eastre, much as horses are animals. When Sargent Howie says sacred to the Celtic Epona, and the “I like your rabbits” Mrs. Morrison crow is sacred to the Morrigan. As a scolds him saying “Those are hares! goddess of spring, she presides over Lovely March hares, not silly old the realm of the conception and birth of rabbits!” And when Howie goes to babies, both animal and human, and of dig up the grave of Rowan Morrison the pollination, flowering and ripening (who it turns out is neither dead of fruits in the plant kingdom. Sexual nor missing) he finds the carcass of activity is the root of all of life: to honor a hare, and Lord Summerisle tries this activity is to honor our most direct to convince him that Rowan was connection to nature.

At Beltane (April 31st-May 1st), pagans and Witches honor the sexual union of the god and goddess amid the flowers and fruits that have begun to cover the land; but prior to that, at Ostara, we welcome the return of the spring goddess from her long season of dormant sleep. The sap begins to flow, the trees are budding, the ground softens, ice melts, and everywhere the fragrance and color of spring slowly awakens and rejuvenates our own life force. I have always thought this had a lot to do with the tradition of wearing newly-bought or made clothes at Easter, in pastel spring colors. Wearing such colors we echo the flowering plants, crocus, lilac, forsythia, bluebells, violets and new clothes allow us to feel we are renewing our persona. How many of us feel sort of “blah” after winter ends? Along with the fasting practice mentioned earlier, this is a time for many of us to create new beginnings in our lives: this can apply to jobs, relationships, living situations, lifestyle choices. But since the Equinox is such a potent time magically, and often (as it does this year) falls in the period when Mercury is Retrograde, starting a new endeavor at this time can be problematic if we do not take care. One good way to avoid catastrophe is to engage in small, personally-oriented rites or activities: a new haircut, a new clothing style or make-up, a new exercise program, the grand old tradition of spring cleaning, a new course of study: all of these are relatively “safe” ways to begin anew without risking the weirdness and unpredictability of Mercury Retrograde. This is a very powerful time to do magic, not only because of the balancing of the earth’s energies, but because of the way our own beings echo the earth’s changes. We are literally reborn as we emerge from our winter sleep, ready to partake of all the pleasures of the earth, and to meet the challenges we will face as the world changes around us daily. As we greet and celebrate with our pagans brothers and sisters of the Southern Hemisphere (for whom the Vernal Equinox more closely resembles the beginning of autumn, in physical terms!), we remember that Spring is not only a season; it is a state of mind. Blessed Be in the Season of Spring! Go Forth and Flower! Peg Aloi ***Orignally published on April 7, 1997 in http://www.witchvox.com

This thought I give to you comes from an old Buddhist philosophy. The first of the six perfections known as Donation. The first perfection tells us to give our time, effort, and other resources to help one effectively. We as living beings must be aware the means of helping someone is only effective as what we do and how. The difference between helping someone and enabling them is a very thin line. For those of us who wish to be that helping hand, we must learn a difficult lesson in life that not everything we do can help someone who is in trouble. Below will go into more detail. I did not write that piece, however it explains a lot more than I am able to articulate. I hope that it will trigger thought and begin a small lean in your minds as to how you shape your world everyday. Thank you.

Giving is the first perfection (Dana Paramita) in Buddhist life. Dana means voluntary giving of one’s material goods, time or wisdom to others. Dana is a means to overcome greed and egoism and to avoid suffering in the future. Charity begins at home. Our generosity toward our loved ones can become an ever-expanding circle that includes members of Sangha, the poor, the sick, the weak and helpless.

What can we give? We can give generous contributions, giving of our material possessions to Sangha and to the poor. We can give fearlessness, which is a unique Buddhist concept, giving of the mind that is free of fear, worry and anxiety. We can give generous thoughts and speeches. We can give through generous actions, and through the giving of our time. Above all, Dharma is the highest form of giving. The invaluable gift of instruction about the Dharma is the highest form of Dana Paramita. Your contribution and participation in the giving of Dharma is the highest form of giving. How can you practice the perfection of giving? Be happy and joyful when you practice the Paramita of giving. This condition is important and essential in Buddhist practice. The donor should be happier than the recipient of the gift. The motivation of giving in Buddhism is to bring enlightenment to all sentient beings. Thus giving is the proper antecedent to empathy and compassion. Kindness and compassion are viewed as essential factors in leading all beings to enlightenment. For giving to embody perfection, it must be practiced with a selfless attitude based on insight into the Buddhist teachings of emptiness, impermanence, interdependency and the law of causality. In Won Buddhism, the perfection of giving corresponds with the Grace of Heaven and Earth and the Grace of Parents.

Sitting here with D0LCI of Veltrini Mafia Family Interview with a Don of the family. D0LCI: I was reading over your interviews briefly in the magazine some of the pages didn’t want to load, but I got thru most of the magazine for the most part. LordDanteDAlfieri: Oh what did you think of our Magazine? D0LCI: It’s very well put together and I absolutely love how you added the humor into things to break up the ‘business’ side of things

LordDanteDAlfieri: Thank you we do enjoy hearing these things from everyone. Oh yes I do that throughout the interview to break the ice LordDanteDAlfieri: well it is you that I wanted to talk to someone who has a family of 300 is quite an achievement Being the main Boss of the family. And doing everything on your own to get where you are now is very good. LordDanteDAlfieri: what is the name of your family and how many members do you have of your family? D0LCI: The family name is Veltrini and, including the various branches, there is roughly about 300 members give or take. LordDanteDAlfieri: What Kind of Role Play is it? D0LCI: The majority of the family resides within the mafia community; however there are some that reside within the military/judicial as well. For the most part, we are more of the ‘Old School’ generation which did not necessarily partake in the RP of the newer generations of today. We were and are more focused on the business end of things. LordDanteDAlfieri: What are your goals for one year from now?

D0LCI: We have a lot of projects in the making, unfortunately, none that I can speak freely on at the moment, but we are hoping to have a great deal of expansion which we are sure will bring a more positive note to the recent events that have led to many leaving the community. LordDanteDAlfieri: How did you Obtain your family was it given to you or to you inherited it? D0LCI: Neither actually. I had started it several years back and it just grew from there. I have many relatives within the community, but I had been adopted and didn’t realize as such until well after I had become established within this area. I had actually formed the family in another area of Imvu and, due to unforeseen circumstances, found myself here. LordDanteDAlfieri: What do you consider to be your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

D0LCI: I would have to say that my greatest strength is my ability to make people feel comfortable enough around me to open up and be themselves, allowing me to help them any way that I can. It can also be viewed as a weakness, I suppose, as I tend to see the good in people and try to save those that are often lost or fall between the cracks of society. LordDanteDAlfieri: What motivates you? D0LCI: Several things, actually. I think sometimes, though, it can be the constant challenge to survive as a woman in a man’s world. Unfortunately, there are still some that feel a woman has no place here and I tend to accept that as a challenge to prove that I am just as capable as they are. LordDanteDAlfieri: Well in my eyes I think women should be in a man’s world because I look as if they are equal to us. D0LCI: I appreciate that, thank you. It would be nice if more took your way of thinking. LordDanteDAlfieri: well your welcome yes they need to have their heads examined. Because women of today get treated poorly and that is not right, plus they are put in challenges just to see if they can take it and that is not right either in my own words most women should be treated like queens and give a lot of respect and honor to LordDanteDAlfieri: How do you determine or evaluate success?

D0LCI: I have found that too many today determine that by the quantity and quality of material objects one can accumulate during their time. Me, however, I am not like the others in the fact that I look at it more as to how well I have helped others with even the smallest of issues. If I can bring peace to a troubled heart or put a smile on someone’s face, well...to me, that is an accomplishment in itself. LordDanteDAlfieri: Describe an accomplishment and what you learned from it D0LCI: Well, I have been told by some of the street youth where I live that it was because of me taking the time to listen to them and be there for them that they were able to turn their lives around to go back to school and on further to a good job and a family. One thing that I have learned irl, as well as here, is that a lot of today’s troubled youth just need to have someone take the time to listen to them and sincerely care. LordDanteDAlfieri: What extracurricular activities have you been involved in? D0LCI: Oh my. Unfortunately, I have been so heavily involved with the family for so long, that I find I don’t always have extra time. When I do, however, I sometimes write or I may just socialize with dear friends that I don’t always get to see.

LordDanteDAlfieri: How do you work under pressure? D0LCI: -chuckles- My dear that is all I’ve ever worked under....so I would have to say I fare it quite well. LordDanteDAlfieri: In what kind of work environment are you most comfortable? D0LCI: Again, I am not the typical of the norm. I enjoy actually working side by side with my members, letting them know that we are indeed a family and that I, too, am human and understand their feelings and their pains. I just can’t see myself sitting behind a desk doing nothing. That to me would be too boring. LordDanteDAlfieri: How do you handle stress Some Drink, Some have sex? D0LCI: Loll. I only wish I had the time for such luxuries. ;) To me, I’m just as happy soaking in a hot bubble bath, or curling up in front of a fire with my partner and just enjoying quality time together. It is such a busy life that we don’t always get the ‘alone’ time that we need. So when we do, we try to make the most of it.

LordDanteDAlfieri: Do you prefer to dress up or be just more casual in most things you do? D0LCI: For the most part, you will find me dressed up in something...but like others, I do have the odd day I may just throw on a pair of jeans and a tee to lounge around the house. LordDanteDAlfieri: What do you do for fun? D0LCI: Hmmmmm. To be honest, it has been a very long time since I have really had the time to do anything. I used to enjoy going to clubs dancing back in the beginning, but, as time passed and the family grew, it seemed to get to be more of a thing of the past as I got more consumed with business. I must warn you that I tend to be a very independent woman. ;)

LordDanteDAlfieri: Well looks like you are due for a night on the town LordDanteDAlfieri: Is there anything you would like to tell our readers in your own words? D0LCI: Yes. I find too many tend to judge a person without truly getting to know them. Many stereotype and become fearful of the unknown. Not everyone is the same and therefore, some should keep that in mind. Try taking the time to say hello...you may be pleasantly surprised as to whom is hiding behind the shroud. LordDanteDAlfieri: How would you rate our Magazine and this Interview for you today? D0LCI: I have had the opportunity to look over the magazine and find it very well put together. Many of the staff, including yourself carry yourselves in a very professional manner, yet at the same time, you know just how and when to add humor to lighten the air, so to speak. Thank you for giving me the honor and the opportunity to speak with such a well-known group. LordDanteDAlfieri: and we ty for your comments and your welcome. Are there any questions you have for me? D0LCI: Yes, as a matter of fact...what made you decide to do a piece on the mafia lifestyle?

LordDanteDAlfieri: Well I use to be Don of my own family and it is nice to see someone out there with the same outlook as I did. My family was small I had one Consigliere, 1 capo Bastone, 2 capos and 4 soldato’s we were not rp we ran it like it was rl to be in the family u had to be 100% Italian so we could trace the name back to the old country I have always loved the mafia way of life it is the same as being a vampire in a way our family was well run like an oiled machine. D0LCI: Well, as I said, not many of the new generation have the same ideals of those from time gone by. Well, too many of the younger kids feel that coming in and starting a family, slapping a title on themselves, and parading around in the limelight makes them the perfect candidate for the job very honored...thank you. LordDanteDAlfieri: your welcome thanks you for taken the time to have this interview with me it was indeed a great day.

D0LCI: You’re Welcome

Geo Findings... Eggshell candles are a great idea for an Ostara decoration, and so easy to do. They look great around your home, or on your altar, they also float on water. Instructions are below. You will need: - eggshells - food dye - vinegar - paper towel - egg carton - soy candle wax, bees wax or just normal candles to melt - candle wick with metal tab - wooden skewers or chop sticks. 1. Clean your eggshells in some soapy water and rinse and leave to dry. 2. Place a few drops of food dye into a bowl of vinegar. One bowl for each colour. Place your eggshells in the dye bath and roll them through the dye for about 30 seconds. Keep the eggshell in the dye for longer if you want a stronger colour. You can use a spoon if you don’t want to colour your fingers. 3. Dry your coloured eggshells on some paper towel. Place dried eggshells into an egg carton.

4. Cut a piece of wick to 10cm in length and thread it through your metal tab. Secure the metal tab & wick to the bottom of eggshell using some melted candle wax. Tie the pieces of wick to a wooden skewer to keep the wick out of the wax. 5. Melt some candle wax, always do this using a pan of water then melt the wax in a smaller container in the hot water, never put candle wax straight into a pan as it can explode from the heat, but it is very safe by melting over boiling water like in the image. You can melt down normal candles, or you can buy bees wax, soy wax or any other kind of candle wax. 6. Pour the melted wax into the eggshells as carefully as possible. Use a funnel if you have one. 7. Leave your eggshells to dry for a few hours and once the wax is hard you can remove the wooden skewers and trim the wick. 8. That is it, you can put them where you want, you can make a little basket with hay in it to put them in, or put them into egg cups, they will also float on water.

Exquisite Eggs Step 1: Begin by downloading free images from graphicsfairy.blogspot.com and thevintagemoth.blogspot.com Step 2: Arrange them in a Microsoft Word document, resizing each to fit on an egg. Step 3: Print the images on tattoo paper, cut them out, and adhere to blown-out eggs, following package instructions. Getting Naughty with DRlZZT Vivi: The Triskellion room is beautiful with the rich reds and golds you chose. What was the inspiration behind the design? Drizzt: Well the inspiration was really a happy accident. I was playing with textures and stumbled on the colors. I had been playing with a Trisk for a while, drawing it out and trying to come up with a design I liked. I was sick of all the, as i saw them, low class BDSM rooms. Most were dark, grungy and looked more like straight S&M rooms. Vivi: I see, the scheme seems to have a very passionate feel to it. I understand you had a party to celebrate the room’s opening. How well was that recieved? Drizzt: It was great and everyone loved the room. I couldn’t have been happier with the turn out. I think we averaged about 17 people in the room over a three hour time frame and we peeked at around 26 people at one time. Guests were coming and going throughout the three hours.

Vivi: Sounds like alot of fun. It seems you have chosen to decorate the room with an array of photographs that star you and your Lady. Are you at all bothered by what some visitors may say about the tasteful, yet erotic photographs? Drizzt: No, not at all ~chuckles~ it’s a BDSM room. If they can’t handle the photos they should never have come in. I always find it more amusing than anything else when people come into a room like that and get shocked. It makes me want to make them even more shocking. I’ll go to just about any length possible to freak them out even more at that point. Vivi:So in closing, can we expect more from you in the Triskellion line? Drizzt: Actually, I’m working on another line of Trisk. I’m wanting to keep the same feel with the clean elegant look, but with a bit of a darker feel Vivi: Our readers heard it here first, more of this dark seductive line will be coming out in the future! Thank you for your time DRlZZT.

Hey How ya doin Dante? you come a Back for some more Learning from the Italiano Chef? Well sit down and a grab O’ Pen and paper out I a teach you to make The Cannoli!

The Cannoli - Cannolis are a great Italian dessert and they were said to have been developed by Sicilians in Palermo, Italy. This is THE Mafia dessert of choice.

Makes 12 to 15 Cannoli Cannoli Shell Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tablespoon sugar 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup dry Marsala or other dry red wine 2 beaten egg whites Vegetable oil to fry with Cannoli molds (tubes for molding shells during frying) Cannoli Filling Ingredients: 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 pound ricotta cheese 1/2 cup powdered sugar 2 teaspoons nut flavored liqueur 1/4 cup finely chopped candied fruit 1/2 cup melted semi-sweet chocolate 1/4 cup chopped pistachios Directions

1. Into a bowl sift together the flour, salt and sugar. With your fingers, work the wine gradually into the dry ingredients to form a stiff dough. Form into a ball, wrap in plastic and let rest at room temperature for 1 hour. 2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8-inch thickness. With a cutter, cut out rounds 5-inches in diameter. In batches, as necessary, wrap each round onto a cannoli mold, sealing the edges with egg white. 3. In a deep saute pan, heat the oil to 350 degrees F. 4. Fry the cannoli in batches until just golden brown and crisp, about 2 minutes. Drain on paper towels, let cool, then gently slip the molds from the cannolis. (Note: Shells can be made 3 days in advance and kept at room temperature in an airtight container.) 5. In a mixing bowl whip the cream. Fold in the ricotta with a rubber spatula, working until creamy. Fold in the sugar, nut liqueur, and candied fruit. 6. Place 1 cannoli shell on a flat surface. Working from either end, fill the cannoli with the ricotta filling (using a pastry bag, if desired), pressing gently to ensure that the middle is filled. Dip both ends in the melted chocolate, then into the pistachios, and place on a waxed paper lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining cannoli, and serve. And a little bit o’ wine. An’ a little bit o’ sugar, and that’s my trick. Be Good Thing to Have for your special someone make a few of these for them they will Melt Like butter in your hand. Come back Next Month Dante I teach you to make O’ some bread with some olive oil.
