Is the internet a good place to find love?

The Internet is a place to find all kinds of things.
Based on personal experience my relationship of 13 years and still going strong and we met online. I believe that it is a place where anything is possible, however, as for a good place,.. I would have to say,no.
Love can never be found in the guise of screen
names and pixels. A world of love starts with each of us first and with truth. As a Buddhist, I believe that it is with a true oneness that we all grow as an individual and connect to one another through time and as life goes on.
The Internet is a place where we can all wear
masks and be what or who we want to be. Through the internet, I have found friends, a strong relationship, and a beautiful other life I love to live in this ‘Cyber Universe’. However, I have also found some less than desirable people and those who seek to be escaping what they live offline. One can find that happiness and love will always follow when that first is achieved.
The notion that one’s life is bad until someone
comes along and suddenly all becomes better, leads the opening for a co-dependency that later in time can strain and possibly degrade a relationship.
So the idea that one can find love on the internet, the answer, possibly. You can find anything on the internet. If you know what truly it is you are looking for.

You Do Not Exist I
don’t know you, you don’t know me. I don’t know who is or isn’t reading this article. For all I know, I may be the only person who ever reads it. Until I meet you, you do not exist in my world. I don’t mean to say I have a power over your existence. I am aware the world is filled with millions upon millions of people that I will never meet. I know some of them are there, I see them on TV or read about them in books. Faceless masses the most of them whose faces fade as quickly from my mind as they entered it because they have no impact on my immediate life. Now should someone say, ‘this is Bob’, suddenly, this person ‘Bob’ comes into existence for me.
But still, just a name, nothing else. Should I
see a picture or hear his voice, Bob is gradually coming into focus and realisation that he is real. Should I meet Bob, his existence is verified. Now, unless I suffer some brain injury or twist of fate, Bob now exists in my mind, my recognition centre, thoughts and memories. He exists. He has always existed to himself and his family, then eventually to friends, school mates, colleagues etc. But up until the point that I was made aware of him and met him, his existence was unknown.
Science Fiction shows always talk of alternate
realities; alternate worlds and universes where an endless line of alternate versions of you exist somewhere in the universe, but could this be our own version of parallel universes? For example.. Bob could have lived in the same town as me, have gone to the same school as me but in a different year. He may shop at the same stores I’ve shopped in. He lives his life, he meets people, he has successes, failures, adventures and days of boredom but if I have never met him, he lives his entire life without me having ever known. This does not devalue his life, nor mine but he lives his life with parallels to mine yet neither of us knows of each other. Isn’t this then a version of parallel realities or universes?
Or do you While the notion that ‘because you never
met me, I do not exist’ is rather inclusive and I for the most part agree, let’s look at something that isn’t mentioned in the article.
First notion is to identify the essence
of the idea of Self. So the issue among us that we as an individual only truly exist is based on the ego that we are among the sentient yet detached. On a more Christian, aspect one would tend to agree, however, the Buddhist mentality is that there is no self. So, in that sense.. YOU.. do not exist for the self only exists for those that are attached by the impermanence. There is a disagreement in that statement in the sense that as none in singularity exist without one another.
Self is a concept in which many of us are grounded to believe that the center of the universe we live in is our own. If there is no self.. and one does not exist.. does that mean neither do you?

But even more importantly - to have IMAGINATION!
To think of the future, not yet existing, possibilities. People do not always know what they want. Had Henry Ford asked the people what they needed for transportation they probably would have answerd - faster horses.
So how may this be done? W hen it comes to product development it’s important to have a clear design process in order to create products as relevant as possible. But these processes are often limiting and imprisoning. Let’s take the motor industry
for instance, it may be very expensive to develop a new car but this has had the unfortunate result that almost all major car companies now days suffer from... a lack of identity. Because isn’t it so that cars today look more or less generic? Look back to the sixties and seventies when a Volvo was a Volvo and a BMW a BMW. Even an Opel could be distinguished on the streets.
So how is this trap avoided? P erhaps through finding a process that creates order and effectiveness without affecting the creativity. You have to solve problems, deliver to a demand or create new possiblilities. You must add magic and relevance. Tell stories, your produts need cultural relevance and they have to evoke meaning. Do not forget the mantra that applies to the development of all sorts of products -
DIFFERENTATION!
Think outside the box, open new trains
of thought or expand the old ones.

Your Account is YOURS Many times in Role Play, you see people hunting desperately for a name change token, or you see those who have changed their names dozens of times. Sometimes this is due to the individual choosing to do this, other times it is because they have been pressured into it by others due to the “death” of a character. Let’s get one thing perfectly clear; You, and you alone, own all rights to your account. No matter what anyone else may say or threaten, you do not have to change your account name. To use IMVU’s own words: “IMVU does not police nor enforce RP rules. That being said, RP on this site still has to stay within the ToS. The ToS trumps all RP rules. You do NOT have to accept an RP kill. There is nothing in the ToS that says you have to. No one can force you to give up your avatar or username. Avatar outfits and name changes are bought with credits, which are bought with actual money. If a character is validly killed (ie during an agreed upon RP fight, with the possibility of death made clear in advance) in your rooms/RP-universe you CAN choose to block that person from coming into your universe/rooms and see their character as dead, but that person does not have to accept this death for any other rooms/RP-universes. Attempting to force someone into
accepting their character’s death in all RP rooms and universes is considered harassment and is against the ToS. “ You have every right to refuse anyone who does not follow your rules in your rooms. There is a boot/ block button for a reason. You can choose not to be part of someone else’s Role Play. You have the choice! Your choice also includes any form of unwanted sexual contact and inappropriate or forceful requests or demands where you are supposedly rendered ‘helpless’. You always have the choice to leave a room, leave a group, or leave an environment. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel helpless, then, leave the room.
The Choice is Yours.

Okay, I want to preface this article by saying I in no way claim to be knowledgeable of all aspects of developing projects and items for IMVU. I did dabble a bit and made a few things, but nothing to the extent of most developers out there. So with that being said, I think I have enough knowledge in it to know it takes time, lots of time for developers to create all the cool and fabulous and exciting things they do. I have been privileged to get to know some of the developers here on IMVU and have sat in on conversations they have been having about what they are doing and what all is involved. I say all this to get to this point. Developers like Geo, Belladonnaofdeath, Drizzt and others I have been around have always been willing to help other developers with issues and ideas. Geo and Drizzts I know, because I spend a considerable amount of time around them, have been very generous and helpful with their ideas and assistance with developing issues. However, I also know just how busy the two of them, in particular, are. And if they are that busy, I can only imagine that others that produce a considerable amount of
IMVU product are just as busy. So a suggestion to any developer who has questions for any other developer, let’s be respectful when trying to approach them. If they don’t answer you in the first 30 seconds, don’t get all rattled and upset. And for pete sake, don’t get all stalker creepy on them, chasing them down in every room, inviting them twenty times in ten minutes, etc. Give them time to respond as they could be in the middle of something and either not see you asking the question, or not able to stop what they are doing at that exact second to answer you. Suggestions: if you are in a room with them, give them a moment to answer if they have not been talkative in the room, if they are too busy to talk at that moment, leave a message in their inbox and give them time to respond (i.e. a day at minimum before you go leaving another message or chasing them down in a room again). If you are respectful to other developers, they will be more inclined to help you when you need it, then try to avoid you for being a nuisance.
