Besh Bull L601 is very much like the other Clear Advantage sons in the sale. L601 has a stout hip and rump with a thick rear end. Other strong attributes are structure, bone and hind leg plus movement. Another proven aspect is his elite cow family - Andie and all her extended family, AKA the Summer tribe. The sons have sold well for the last two years and females have been awesome with highs being $17,000 and $12,500. The EPDs across the board are balanced with the birth weight in the top 10%, Milk in the top 15% and marbling and TI in the top 30%. He has GE genomic enhanced EPDs like all the bulls in the sale, homo polled and homo black.

I liked Clear Advantage the first time I saw him at Clearwater. I knew that he would help my program so we decided to purchase half interest and the decision has continued to pay off. I really appreciate his acceptance from a variety of breeders. KLB2 is a shiner of bull that stands out and I feel it is his overall completeness. This Clear Advantage son is level topped, tight sheathed, has big testicles, a stout rear leg plus all the right parts. KLB2 had a low birth weight of 73 pounds and adjusted weaning of 839. We continue to be pleased as the reports come in on the progeny on Clear Advantage. The calving ease is there and the performance and growth add in the equation. Clear Advantage combines breed leading EPDs with style and attractiveness. The L03 individual has the look and extension plus shape and curve to his rib with that extra capacity. This Clear Advantage son is out of a Blacklist x Butterfly. A January calf that is off to great start with a birth weight of 83 pounds and adjusted weaning weight of 946. L71, a baldie, goes back to the Knockout cow family and catches your eye with style and presence as he walks around the pen. 10 EPDs are in the top 35% of the breed. L365 goes back to WHF Andie 365A one of the leading donors for Beshears and ranks in the top 10% WW, YW, ADG, MCE and MWW. After that his numbers are impressive with nothing ranking more than 50%. If you are looking to add herdsires to your operation that combine the best of phenotype, pedigree and genotype these guys should be at the top of the list. We suggest you take them both home since they are only half sib brothers – think of the data value your cows would have!

First off, I speak of longevity. LD24 grand dam SOSF Ebonys Black Silk I purchased in 2013 when she was a 7-year-old cow. She was born 2006; which makes her 18 years old and still producing. LD24 is whopper of a bull. The main thing you have to find intriguing is his overall depth of body and shape of rib plus his capacity. He, in my opinion, will produce elite females and sure-fire brood cows. To top things off he is homo polled and homo black.

Besh Bull HZ35 is a bull that we are extremely high on here at the farm. The Need 4 Speed’s are one of our biggest sire groups and there were no throwaways. HZ35’s pedigree includes Dolly’s Queen and Copacetic. This fall born has all the right parts and pieces plus is well balanced with striking look and profile. I know when Doug was here at the farm he seemed to always come back to HZ35. All his data reads correct with a low birth weight of 75, weaning weight of 804 and yearling weight of 1317. He was number one in his contemporary group. Homo polled and homo black and impressive.

Take look at the differences and make the best choice for your operation. L631 was the pounds heavy bull at weaning, weighing 932 pounds and ranks in the top 10% for WW, YW and CW. Also, the top 15% for MWW and top 25% for DOC. He is stout made and deep with shape to his rib. L26G and L26J are both Exit 44s out of our past champion Angus donor. Logic K79 is very similar to his half-brother, Lot 18, and it can be hard to tell them apart. It is no secret that C&C’s Jestress B79 is one of the hottest tickets in town over the recent years and having her legacy and influence in our herd was important. K79 is a growth bull and will work on a set of cows. Logic K79 is in the top 10% for WW and YW, top 20% for ADG and the top 15% for DOC. He is the right age to work tomorrow. When we took yearling weights he weighed 1596 pounds and adjusted 1378. Adj WW 888 and homo polled.

I am more than pleased with the calves from my Clear Water bulls. They have 60-80 lbs. over all of my Angus calves, and outweigh everything at weaning time. A couple buyers that fed out calves are telling us they are cutting choice and prime in the packers. They’ve really liked the way they handle feed.

I hope you have heard about the Spotlight Show following the Clear Choice Customer sale April 27th. If you haven’t been to a past customer sale, the offering includes open show prospects, bred heifers and bred cows, pairs and genetic lots. With the upcoming Spotlight Show in conjunction with the Customer Sale, the consignors decided to put together a select set of female heifers to be offered in the bull sale. Bryce is a Blacklist out of Bramlets Beautiful Y100. The Y100 heifer was shown successfully by the Ison family capturing banners across the country. This 1/2 blood mating combines the solid S054 cow family with the stylish PVF Blacklist. We don’t know what her future is, but we hope that it will be bright for the junior member on the end of the halter.

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. $ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well- conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield

Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000).
