r a h Bi m e Fro Lov th Wi Dear Prayer Partner in Christ,

New Year greetings to you in the name of the Lord who has promised us that “He will set you high above all nations which He has made, for praise, fame, and honor’’ (Deut 26:19a). At the same time, He also calls usthat‘‘you shall be a consecrated (separated, sanctified and dedicated) people to the Lord your God” (Deut26:19b). May He give us grace through the year 2018, to live according to His thisexpectation and may we make Him rejoice in us, as we live fulfilling His unchanging purpose for us. The word of God reveals to us that, whenever God wants to perform something extraordinary to a people group or a nation, all He needs is the cooperation of a small group of people. Let me show this through some examples. During the time of Noah, sin had so multiplied on earth that even the every thoughts of men were filled with evil. When the LORD was sorry that He had made man, He found an insignificant family who were righteous. The family of Noah were faithful, obedient, and ready for any sacrifice and thus they proved by their life The Call

that they were separated from the sinful world. Though they had never experienced rain, they readily believed God’s judgment of flood and obeyed God in building the ark. The LORD found them faithful enough to entrust them with the responsibility of saving other creatures like birds, animals and creeping things. They not only had to save them from the flood, but also had to feed them, care for them, and protect them from harming each other, for almost a year. Besides, they had to remove their dung, clean them up, and maintain hygiene inside the ark. Has not the Lord, even today, entrusted man with the responsibility to care for a wife, children, family, church, co-workers, etc.? On the day He meets us will He be able to say to us, ‘‘Well done, good and faithful servant’’? The voice of the Lord will be clear to those who have committed to obey (Gen6:13-16). And when the act that must be done with the process that needs to be followed is finished faithfully, His voice will be clear again (Gen 8:15-17). Only a very few are aware of this! When Noah came out of the ark, he was filled with such gratitude that he built an altar and offered God a sacrifice, even when the Lord had not asked or expected it (Gen 8:20-21). In our days we see worship leaders who neither know to recognize the fragrance of worship nor if the Lord is pleased with it, ask people how they felt about the worship. They are satisfied when people respond that the worship was excellent. What a pity? But how sacrificial were Noah and his family! How many years did it take for them to complete that enormous task of building the ark? They didn’t even have time for family pleasure. Noah’s The Call

sons were married but had no children. And we read that the children were born only after the flood. When the people of the world were living in pleasures (Lk 17:27), did Noah’s family had to sacrifice for the work of God? They knew that “those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it; for the form of this world is passing away” (1 Cor7: 31). Does not this commandment apply

to us too? Noah’s family was ready to sacrifice the clean animals that they had cared for almost a year. These days, there is dearth in this too. The usual response is, ‘‘it’s ‘I’ who brought my child up, how can I of fer to God?’’Many children who are to be given to the Lord are thus bound. Perhaps it is the age of ‘I’! - ‘I’phone, ‘I’pod, ‘I’pad, etc. Noah’s daughters-in-law also had to be separated from their families. Having believed the warning from the Lord, all the 8 members of Noah’s family lived a separated life. They did not give heed to the world’s views of relations like parents, in-laws, etc.God’s call is always higher and in it all voices of human relations die down. There is no place to ‘conform to the world’ (Romans 12:2). God said, ‘‘give your Thummim and your Urim to Levi’’ (Deut 33:8). Why? Because ‘‘who(the Levites) said of his father and his mother, ‘I did not consider them’; and he did not acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he regard his own sons, for they observed Your word’’ (Deut 33: 8, 9). They gave importance to the Word of the Lord.

So this small group of people of the family of Noah was chosen to sanctify, cleanse, and inherit and to usher in another beginning of the earth. That is why several thousand years later God rememThe Call

bered the righteousness of Noah (Eze 14:14-20). Even today the Lord looks for a small group people who can make a new heaven and a new earth. Can we be part of that small group? When God was looking to rise up a nation through whom the Messiah should come, He found in Abraham and Sarah two faithful people ready to obey God. It is no simple thing to leave your home, your people, your nation and your wealth and yet they obeyed.

Nor was it necessary to say to the young Lot, “If you go to the left, I will go to the right. If you go to the right, I will go to the left” when everything belonged to Abraham by God’s promise. With Lot he was willing to give up, ready to lose, and with Melchizedek he was willing to share the war profits. We can’t find such attitude in

the present world;both the secular and the spiritual. He established the highest example of obedience by not hesitating to sacrifice his only son of promise. God called this ‘Fearing the Lord’. Do we recognize the fact that many do not obey these days not because they lack faith; No, because they lack the fear of the Lord. No wonder the Lord fought on behalf of His separated saint Abraham, when he was in the midst of people who loved the world and where the spirit of adultery worked, by reproving Pharaoh and Abimelech (Gen 12:17, 20:3).

Likewise, even in our generation too the Lord is looking for faithful people, people who have separated themselves for Him from the world and who have an attitude of sacrifice and obedience. Consider the days of Moses. When the Lord was planning for a mighty deliverance His searching eyes found Amram the Levite and his wife, Jochbed. Aaron, Moses and Miriam were The Call

their children, a wonderful family. Moses was joined later by Jethro, the priest of Midian, and one of his daughters, Zipporah. Then came along Caleb of the tribe of Judah, and Joshua of the tribe of Ephraim. They kept their faith even though they had no great knowledge of the Lord. All of them, despite living under slavery in the land full of black magic and no access to the written word had a different spirit and a sacrificial mind. So they were trusted by the Lord. Moses was faithful in all his house (Heb 3:2) and he was a man of commitment and sacrifice: “choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season” (Heb 11:25). As regards to his obedience all we have to do

is to see how many times the phrase, “Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he”gets repeated in the book of Exodus alone. When the Lord Jesus came to earth to show us the way, were there not a few people who stand out, who showed to the world that they were people of character? Think of Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth, Zechariah, John the Baptist, Simeon, Anna, the Wisemen, all whom showed themselves to be faithful, obedient, sacrificial, and separated from the world. In the midst of the corrupted state of the nation, the Lord needed 16-year-old Mary and an 84-year-old Anna. The Lord needs men, women and families. What was it like then? 1.Bribery was rampant that people did not respect Tax collectors. (Mt 9:11) 2.Adultery was so common that they could be caught The Call

red-handed. (Jn 8:4, Lk 7:37) 3.Demon possessed were both inside and outside of the temple. (Lk 4:33, Mk 5:2) 4.Temple became not only a den of thieves but also a place of business. (Lk 19:46) 5.Crowds followed excitedly whenever there were freebies. (Jn 6:26) 6.Racial prejudice everywhere. (Jn 4:9) 7.Pervasive traditions making people spiritual blinds even after seeing physical blind healed. (Jn 9:34, Mt 15:3) 8.The religious leaders devoured women, specially the widows. (Mt 23:14) 9.No lack of festivals; but offerings was wasted. (Lk 21;5) 10.No dearth of diseased. (Mk 13:4) 11.Wrong doctrines. (Mk 8:15, 12:18) 12.Living in slavery, proclaiming liberty. (Jn 8:33) 13.Ostracized from society. (Jn 9:22, 25) 14.People fighting over wealth. (Lk 12:13) 15.Writing false information. (Lk 16:5-7) 16.Living luxuriously and not caring for the poor. (Lk 16:19-21) 17.Neglectinga woman in labour who is about to deliver. (Lk 2:6,7) 18.Despising family and relatives who are ill for long time. (Jn 5: 5-7) 19.Regionalism. (Jn 7:52) The Call

20.Sarcasm even in the house of death &hypocritical weeping. (Lk 8:53) 21.Religious leaders unafraid of murdering. (Jn 11:53) In such dire situations these simple, poor yet precious, people were found to be faithful, unfazed to sacrifice and consciously separated from all of these. And because of whom the Son of God could come and bring salvation to the present world. Today if we want the Son of God to be revealed, to begin a new chapter, to fulfill the Word and to guide, we need a small group of people who are: 1) Faithful to the Lord 2) Ready to obey 3) Sacrificial minded 4) Dedicated to holy living Let us commit this year to arise as a small people or group. This is enough for the Lord to change us into glorious, honourable, praiseworthy and the best.
