r a h Bi m e Fro Lov th Wi Dear Prayer Partner in Christ,
Greetings to you all in the name of the Lord who protects us with the promise, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper’’
We can live victoriouslyonly if we know who our enemies are.The adage, “Know your enemies before you know who your friends are” holds true with regard to spiritual warfare as well. Sadly, many spiritual leaders don’t know to identify the enemies and if they do they are afraid of exposing them. In this brief letter I would like us to learn important lessons on this subject from God’s dealing with the nation of Israel. Despite living in the Promised Land, Israel failed to understand this truth. God raised Kings to reign and sent Prophets to warn and yet they deviated from the path set by the Lord. Even when they were in Egypt, the leaders of Israel had failed to recognize that it was God who raised up Pharaoh against them and whom eventually God overthrew. On the one hand, at every Passover, they were reminded of the day they came out of Egypt and the fact that the Egyptian FebruaryFebuary
army along with their chariots and horseswas overthrown by God (Exodus 14:9). On the other, they gloried that their king Solomon married Pharaoh’s daughter and brought horses and other wares from there (1 Kings 11:1, 10:28,29). No wonder it was habitual for them to go down to Egypt and to trust in Egypt’s power when ever they were in danger. The prophetic voice to Israel was clear. “Woe to the obstinate children, declares the Lord,to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection, to Egypt’s shade for refuge. But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame, Egypt’s shade will bring you disgrace’’ (Isaiah 30:1-3). “For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose” (Isaiah30:7).“Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and depend upon horses and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD” (Isaiah 31:1).
But the people of Israel were not only unwilling to heed the prophetic voice and obey the Lord but even ask the prophet to stop confronting them. For they said to the seers,“See no more visions!” and to the prophets, “Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions. Leave this way, get off this path, and stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 30:9-10)! The Call
God knew that the situation in our times would be no different and asked Isaiah, “Now go, write it before them on a tablet and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever (Isaiah 30:8).
Recently the Roman Catholic Bishops in Madhya Pradesh invited the Vice President of India for their Christmas celebrations. Just two days after this visit, the Carol singers were attacked by fundamentalists and a new car was torched within Satna Police station. In 30 years of carol singing practice this has had never happened. What was the outcome of inviting such a big personality? Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, the leader of the opposition was invited for the Christmas cake cutting ceremony, perhaps with the hope that he would be the next Chief Minister. Church leaders vied with one another to feed the cake to the dignitary. His party miserably lost the byelection including the deposit! The Israelites trusted the ones with might and power hoping for safety and provision. We are no better, for we too are involved in appeasing and joining people with political and money power. It certainly is good thing to invite them for our celebrations provided the purpose is to share the gospel and invite them to repent and believe in Jesus. But it is deplorable and utterly shameful if we lean on their might and power to advance our causes. We must learn from the great Apostle Paul. He was imprisoned by Roman authority and he had to defend his case before the powerful but corrupt Governor Felix (Acts 24:24-26). Paul would have been set free had he appeased Felix by praise and money. Instead he The Call
chose to speak about the Cross and his faith. He spoke of righteousness, self-control and the coming judgement. Paul was fearless of powers and was always ready to lay down his life for Christ. Many Christian leaders today are neither called nor are they prepared to lay down anything for Christ. If our leaders are taken up with prefixes such as Dr., Bishop, Apostle, etc... where is Christianity headed. Egypt, in the Bible, symbolizes life of sin and the world. Lot saw Sodom like the garden of the Lord and as Egypt. He chose Sodom and lost everything (Genesis 13:10, 19:28). During the days of Prophet Jeremiah, Israeli leaders asked him to pray for guidance while in their heart they had intended to go to Egypt to save themselves from Babylon. “Please hear our petition and pray to the Lord your God for this entire remnant. For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few are left. Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do” (Jeremiah 42:2, 3). After 10 days of seeking the Lord, Jeremiah
told them that it was not God’s will for them to go to Egypt and that He would protect them from Babylon. But they refused to heed and took Jeremiah also with them to Egypt. We have the same promise from the Lord today. ‘‘Like birds hovering overhead, the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver it, he will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it” (Isaiah 31:5). The lord will be “like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land” (Isaiah 32:2). The Call
Here is a transcript of a sweet song sung by Sis. SarahNavaroji:
Hate Egypt’s sinful life, Walking behind Jesus; Eat your divine portion (of the bread of life), Go forward in the strength of the Lord. Fear not, fret not, Safe in Jesus on earth here; You will reach the heavenly Canaan, To live with the heavenly Father there. Wilderness and mountains will be in earthly life, Darkness too might set in; But the pillar of fire and cloud will appear, Walk swiftly forward on.
We have a need today for men like Moses who hate to be called as the sons of the Pharaoh’s daughter; men who consider it joy to suffer for Christ’s sake than enjoy the pleasures of Egypt. Where are the Moses’ today who are focused on the heavenly reward than the temporal pleasures? Where are the Moses’ who will run out of Egypt not fearing the anger of Pharaoh? Remember when the Egyptians tried to do like Israelites they perished in the Red sea. Likewise, if we try to be like them, we too will perish. ‘‘Look, I know you are depending on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff, which pierces the hand of anyone who leans on it! Such is Pharaoh King of Egypt to all who depend on him’’ (Isaiah 36:6).
For too long a time our leaders have gone behind politicians and political parties hoping that this party or that party would help our causes. The Lord will fight the battle for us,provided such leaders would assess their ways, humble themselves, acknowledge and The Call
confess their mistakes publically and lead other people too into such commitment. When the Lord fights, the Red sea will part, the chariots will breakdown and the horses will submerge (Exo 14); A woman with a millstone can become a weapon in the hand of the Lord (2 Sam 11:21); A woman, dwelling in the tent, can break the enemy’s head (Judges 4:21); The lame and the blind can capture the fort (2 Sam 5:8); The voice of the ones with a pitcher and torch will scatter the enemy (Judges 7:19-21). When the Lord is on our side the enemy will follow our voice like a little pup would (2 Kings 6:19); the earth will tremble (1Sam 4:3); the people around will be filled with the terror of the Lord (Genesis 35:5). The rulers will be rebuked by the Lord (Genesis 20:3, 31:29), those who hear of the Lord’s works will be filled with fear (Acts 5:11) and those who resist and fight will suddenly be cast down by the Light (Acts 9: 3,4). The present generation doesn’t allow the Lord to fight their battles. They depend on the power of their positions, pride in their qualifications and trust in their riches. There is no willingness to repent, no desire to forsake the way of the world and no understanding that they can’t serve the world and the Lord (Luke 16:3). Let us cry unto the Lord! We have started GEMS web TV since 1st January 2018 and teachings & programs on ‘Wholesome Life’ is being telecast for people of all ages and stages. Watch the programs and encourage others too. our Nation. May we live for Jesus, He who lives in us; The threats of the enemy, Cannot harm us. Trust not in Egypt’s might, Its chariots and horses will cease; Jesus alone is the shelter in storms, And in the raging waters on our shores. Assyria’s words like arrows, And their mischiefs will go away; Jesus breaks strongholds of sorrow, May we trust in Him always. Babylon may ridicule you, The dwelling place of the devil; Let us worship and sing to Jesus, Because He won over hell and evil. Philistines’ rejoicing will cease, Goliath will be slain by you; With the Lord’s strength you’ll rise, That’s all needed of you. Canaan’s lies will melt atlast, From heaven victory will come; Christ will keep you till the end, The Spirit Who has come is all you need. The Call
Moab’s dishonesty will drown, We will be taken to heaven by the Lord; He will help us to lay down our life, May we be zealous for the Lord. Arab’s portion will be withdrawn and taken away, The murmur of the heathen will stop; May we identify with Him right away, And the fleshly thoughts will disappear. Midian’s religion will disappear, The Lord will protect the remainder; The Lord of Gideon is with us, Looking for those who will obey & surrender. In His Vineyard Bro. D. Augustine Jebakumar
Set High Holy to God Deuteronomy 26:19 says, “…He will set you in praise, fame and honour high above all the nations He has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God”. For God to set us high His condition is Holiness! We need to be careful and identify the enemies that try to destroy our holiness. Let me list them from God’s word – 1. Isaiah 30:1-3; 31:1 –Trust only God & not the worldly counsel or help while in dire need. 2. Numbers 25:17 – Be careful about the Midianites; Adultery & fornication that can destroy your holiness. 3. Joshua 9:13,14 – Be careful about the Gibeonites; Always ask God’s direction before partaking in any offered provisions or privileges. 4. Joshua 23:11-13 – Be careful about the Canaanites; to not practice & be entrapped in the ways of the world. My prayer for you in this new year will be that the Lord may instil in you a spirit like that of Deborah who not only destroyed the Canaanites but could also inspire & muster people who risked their lives to do so (Judges 5:14-18); that He may set you on high for His glorious purposes! WAR HORSES It is true that the blood of Christ has cleansed us and united us to the body of Christ but it is just a beginning. The other important aspect is our corporate Christian life. To understand it better let me bring three types of disciplines that are important & similar to each other – Medical discipline, Military discipline & Ministry discipline. To do any surgery there is a discipline followed; there must be an anaesthetist, experienced nurses and team of doctors. This is similar with the Military as well as Ministry. One must not forget that Ministerial discipline is also to be followed strictly as followed in the medical filed and in military. More so because we need to realize as a church that we all are in a war, a spiritual warfare. (Rev. 12:12) We are in the last days. Satan is in full of fury to deceive as many as he can, because he knows the time is short. Book of Joel 3: 9, 10 calls us to prepare for this war. But unfortunately the condition of many believers is not of preparedness. I would like to show three types of believers who can be seen in today’s church; through the book of Job chapter 39. The Call
Verses 5-7 call the first kind as ‘Wild Donkey’. Though they have repented and are saved and seen inside the church, they have No direction, No goal &No respect for anyone. Just Like a Wild donkey. The second kind is in verses 9-12, ‘Wild Ox’. It has huge strength but can’t be used for any work; Can’t be tied, Can’t be used to plough. No service can be got, can’t be kept in a team. He or she may have so many degrees or experience but can’t be used for any good work. The third is the ‘War Horse’ mentioned in verses 19-22. It has strength, power and can run similar to the other two but its strength and power is regulated and is controlled by the rider. It has got the bit and bridle which helps to focus its eye and to control its mouth. (Ps 32:9) Only when the horse has a focused vision it is useful, else it’s a horse with no understanding. Though War horses can smell the war in a distance but only when the rider signals, the horse runs. Let’s discipline our lives and be prepared like the war horse and fulfil God’s vision. Let’s prepare the church to be War Horses. In His Vineyard, Bro. D. Augustine Jebakumar
Yearend Fasting Prayer Helps to Restore Hearts and to Revive Services GEMS Annual Fasting Prayer was conducted in Sikaria, Bihar

From Micah 6:8 and Colossians 2:18,23 he showed how practical humility looks like. The Call
He shared in the morning devotions with focus on humility as a necessity for restoration & revival. He showed from the lives of David (1 Sam 18:17-23; 24:14; 26:20; 2 Sam 7:18), Abraham (Gen 18), Mephibosheth (2 Sam 19:30) & John the Baptist (John 1:21,27; Matt 11:14) the true nature of humility. guest speaker and he shared on the theme verse from Psalm 85 and expounded on restoration & revival. Sharing from the context of this Psalm he shared how Israelites who were delivered from Egyptian bondage because of their rebellion & unpleasing life went into Babylonian captivity. He likened it to the life of a saved person who gets into bondage and cries out for deliverance and restoration. He showed through other Psalms 137, 128 & 96 the life of one who fears the Lord and walks in His ways. The participants were divided into groups and questionnaires were given on the topics of Repent, Restore & Revive to discuss among themselves for introspection. People were led in praise & worship by Bro. Bell Shath, Bro. Noble, Bro. Arjun Karmali& Bro. Praveen Das along with the choir and the music team. Emerson exhorted all the missionaries to remember the laid foundation of GEMS, Evangelism (1 Cor 3:10) & encouraged that persecution will only bring forth a great harvest (Exodus 1:12). He shared on the role that everyone needs to play in this time – Prayer (Is 62:7), Enabling all believers to proclaim the gospel (Acts 8:4), Develop team work (Acts 13:1), Missionary attitude & commitment (1 Cor 4:9). He also presented REAP – Raising Evangelists And Prayer warriors, a new initiative for GEMS churches. All the missionaries & participants took part in the communion service. Faith offering was taken and the missionaries committed to give to the upcoming WLTC (Women’s Leadership Training Centre) in Bettiah, North Bihar and for Reaching Hand Society, a ministry based in Orissa. In the closing session the General Secretary presented God’s promise for GEMS team for year 2018 from Deuteronomy 26:19 “…He will set you in praise, fame and honour high above all the nations He has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God”. He showed the important conditions from the context of
the verse – to be holy, to keep the covenant, to give the first fruits to God and to not touch that which is set apart for God.
Pray for all the missionaries of GEMS who committed towards
restoration that it may lead to a true and greater revival in all the ministries. Pray that they may grow in inner holiness & humility that the Lord may use them highly to touch & transform nations. The Call

GEMS Leadership Training Centre and Course Inaugurated in Bihar Leadership Training Centre (LTC)was inaugurated at Sikaria, Bihar for the glory of God to train indigenous & cross cultural GEMS missionaries in and for leadership. The inauguration of the Leadership Training Centre was held at Timothy Bible College in Sikaria, Bihar on 5th January 2018. The program began with prayer by Sis. Rupalekha Jebakumar (Managing Trustee). The participants were led in praise & worship by Bro. Bell Shath (Revival Ministries Coordinator). Bro. Paul Bance (Training Coordinator) anchored the program and asked Bro. Rakesh (Associate Director-CP) to pray for Bro. Christopher who is given the leadership responsibility of LTC. Bro. Paul presented the structure of LTC that it will be a three months’ residential course with two months’ gap between every month in which the missionaries will go to their fields. 15 Area Leaders & 5 Department Heads of GEMS will be taken in every batch and along with them there will be room for leaders from other organizations who will be recommended by Hi-CHAL (Hindi Churches Alliance). Bro. Anand (Associate Director-Institutions) and Bro. Cornelius (Zonal Superintendent, B1) prayed for this course and for the participants. The General Secretary Bro. D. Augustine Jebakumar shared about the void of leadership and the need for it. He also mentioned about Dr.Rajendran’s (Ex-General Secretary, IMA) writing in IMA’s 40th year souvenir appreciating GEMS for its on-the-job training. He also mentioned about GEMS’ future plans to start an online course & the upcoming leadership training centre for Women. A gist of the The Call
message that he shared – Without a leader there will not be any Voice or Goal or Direction. Leadership teaching & training of GEMS should be
based on the Word of God. And the aim should be to enable the leaders to listen to the God’s voice. During Elijah’s time God did not send him to the prophetical colleges of Bethel & Carmel to choose the successor, but to the field, to a farmer Elisha! We need intellectuals like Paul and fishermen like Peter; but both listened to the voice of God. In Moses & Joshua and in Elijah & Elisha mentorship we see that along with people’s acceptance and more than that God’s divine approval is essential (Numbers 27:15-19; 2 Kings 2:14,15). In the team of Paul & Barnabas we see Paul proving his calling through God’s guidance (Acts 13). Even though Nehemiah came from the palace, he could work with difficult & corrupt people because God stirred their hearts, as a sign of divine approval.
The candidates of the first batch were asked to come forward and as the leaders laid their hands upon them Bro. K. Gunasekaran (Director, Hi-CHAL) prayed for them. Bro. Christopher thanked everyone for participating and Bro. T. Emerson (Executive Director) closed the inauguration ceremony with prayer. Pray for the Leadership Training Centre of GEMS that it would train
the mission leaders to be God’s voice for the church & the nation. Pray for all the tutors to receive fresh inspiration & anointing to train according to God’s direction. Pray for this course to instil & propel the leadership to fulfil the needed purposes of God for this time. The Call

Believers of Balumath Church Badly Beaten and Continuously Persecuted in Jharkhand The believers of GEMS church at Balumath who come from Chakla village were badly beaten for resisting GharWapsi. Twenty families from PaduwaTola of Chakla village are believers who come to the GEMS church at Balumath. On 20th December 2017 the Sangh affiliates organized a GharWapsi (forced conversion) and five The Call
families succumbed to it. The rest of the families resisted; so the Sangh affiliates organized one more GharWapsi on 9th January 2018 and all the families resisted it again. So on 10th January the Sangh members instigated the SarnaSamithi members and bet the resisted believers very badly. Bro. Philip Tirkey, the missionary pastor of Balumath and Bro. Santhappan, Zonal Superintendent of PEACE 1 Zone encouraged the believers and accommodated them at Bro. Santhappan’s house that night. Chakla village comes under Chandwa police station and when the believers went and complained, the police called those who bet them and pushed for compromise. But when the believers persisted and went along with the Mukhiya of the village on 13th January the Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Munda filed FIR against the perpetrators.
The newspapers (13th Jan 2018 in Jagran) have published a false report that the Christian believers of Paduva Tola are converting the people by alluring them. Balumath church believers have been continuously attacked and persecuted. Pray that the believers may stand strong and steadfast in the faith. Pray for the believers from Chakla village to continue to grow in the Lord. Pray for the opposers to know the love of Jesus and to come to Christ.
