A Note From Scott

SCOTT STONE GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR
Hi, everyone! My name is Scott Stone, and it’s an honour to say hello as Gemporia’s new Group Managing Director.
This may be our first introduction, but my Gemporia journey began over ten years ago at JewelleryMaker. I’ve also had the privilege of leading Gemporia Craft over the past three years, which has deepened my respect for our loyal customers and dedicated team.
I approach this new role with gratitude and excitement for the future – I’m here to listen, learn, and help create the best possible experience for everyone in our community. Life at home is busy with a young family, and that daily reminder of connection and care is something I hope to instil into everything we do here at Gemporia.
We have so much to be excited about this season; a little secret I can give away is that a new studio and HD setup are on the way! Until then, I’ll let the team and this brilliant magazine keep you updated.

Diamonds Aren’t Forever
F or as long as we can remember, the world’s perception of Diamonds has been shaped by the iconic phrase, ‘A Diamond is Forever’.
Following multiple mine discoveries in Africa, Australia and Canada since the 1800s, natural Diamonds have been marketed as symbols of eternal luxury. They have a centuries-long reputation of being infinitely available –but, sadly, this is no longer the case.
From major natural sources ceasing operations to factory-made stones flooding the market, the Diamond industry is at a crossroads, and our position in the gemstone world has given us a front-row seat to the depletion of some of the world’s most significant Diamond mines.
As a leading natural gemstone retailer and one of the few refusing to sell factory-made Diamonds, we have a responsibility to both educate and inform the world about the realities of the industry. Earth’s greatest Diamond sources are closing, and with them, we risk losing not just a finite natural resource but the living stories and authentic traditions that make each Diamond unique.

Natural Diamonds are more than just a symbol; they carry an irreplaceable history and a connection to nature and human craftsmanship, qualities that factory-made stones cannot replicate. At Gemporia, we strive to both preserve Diamonds’ stories and celebrate their heritage, upholding the conversation to ensure they remain a part of our future, not just our history.
Diamonds aren’t forever, but their legacy can be –will you join the revolution?

Introducing Diavik Diamonds
Diavik is one of Canada’s major Diamond mines; its unique location in the crisp Arctic tundra produces stones with exceptional clarity and ice-white colour.
Prized for its unwavering commitment to sustainability, Diavik responsibly sources its Diamonds whilst protecting the surrounding ecosystems. Almost one-quarter of its workforce is Indigenous, and once the mine closes in 2026, the land will be restored to its original condition and returned to the First Nation communities inhabiting the area.
We had the privilege of visiting Diavik earlier this year and learning about their pioneering efforts for ourselves. The visit reinforced just how finite natural Diamonds truly are, inspiring us to start the conversation around whether the iconic ‘A Diamond is Forever’ slogan really holds up.
Canadian Diamonds are a single-generation discovery, and mines are closing right now – so there’s never been a better time to acquire a piece of natural history and the stories of the people behind it. Our new Diavik Diamond collection is bespoke and limited, amplifying the importance of taking this opportunity before it’s gone forever.

Don’t miss the launch of our brand-new Diavik Diamond jewellery collection!
This exquisite selection was curated with both history and longevity in mind. Not only has each piece been set with the finest-quality Diamonds from the Diavik Mine, but the designs closely emulate the unique the shape of the Lac de Gras, an affectionate tribute to the lake upon which Diavik sits.
To view these prestigious pieces and own one for yourself, join us live during our Dazzling in the Sun event from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th of July.

KATE MOSS
GLASTONBURY, 2005

From her layered necklaces and bangles to her chunky rings and statement hoops, the supermodel established herself as a Glasto fashion icon without even trying.

The Gem Quest That Changed Everything
Step into the heart of Burma with gemstone investor Jake Thompson as he reflects on a journey that shaped more than just Gemporia’s future. For over a decade, Burma’s gem-rich Mogok region remained locked away from the West - off-limits and all but unreachable. Then, in 2020, the gates briefly opened...

In this rare look back, five years after that extraordinary expedition, Jake shares untold moments including how Jade quietly shifted the destiny of one of our most passionate gem experts.
Hopes of a return visit soon collided with geopolitical reality, transforming the trip into a once-in-a-lifetime experience as Burma became an inaccessible location once again.
Low in iron, rich in fluorescence, Mogok Rubies display a red so vivid it seems lit from within. This rare release offers collector-grade stones backed by provenance and serious gemstone prestige.

According to local lore, these vibrant gems were first spotted decades ago by Indigenous people, scattered in small, glistening mounds at the bases of anthills. Their rich colour, sparkling against the desert floor, was impossible to ignore.
But here’s what makes them truly magical and a striking example of nature’s quiet collaboration: this gemstone is unearthed not by machines or even human handsbut by ants!
Deeply rooted in Navajo heritage, their journey from deep underground to the light of day is a testament to the rarity, reverence, and raw wonder of this extraordinary Garnet variety.
Watch below as Jake Thompson shares more about this incredible gemstone and the tiny miners behind it.

TAJIK SPINEL
High in the Pamir Mountain of Tajikstan lies a gem that once outwitted kings!
Celebrated for its exceptional transparency and rich red-pink hue, Tajik Spinel was long mistaken for Ruby! Before advanced gemological tools, visual inspection was the primary method of identifying gemstones, and since Spinel and Ruby share similar colours and crystal systems, misidentification was common.
Once nicknamed “ The Great Imposter” , this gem is more than just a stone - it’s a chapter in gemological mischief. One of the most famous cases was the Black Prince’s Ruby , the iconic gem at the heart of the British Crown Jewels. Thought to be a Ruby for centuries, it was later revealed to be Spinel.
Today, Tajik Spinel is seen as a highly desirable gemstone in its own right - uniquely charming and unmistakably special.

FIRE OPAL
Did you know Fire Opals are quite literally forged in fire? Born from deep volcanic origins, these rare gems form when silica-rich water seeps into the cracks left behind by flowing lava.
Over millions of years, this water deposits microscopic layers of hydrated silica, gradually building into the radiant phenomenon we know as Fire Opal.
Coveted for their rare, incandescent glow, Fire Opals are nature’s most passionate masterpiece. Capturing the essence of fire in crystal clarity, each gem radiates with fluid, fiery hues - its vivid colour infused with the energy of its birthplace.
With no two alike, this gemstone is a signature of the Earth’s most dramatic artistry - destined to ignite your jewellery collection!

Birthstones
JULY - AUGUST - SEPTEMBER
Birthstones have held a special place in the jewellery world for as long as we can remember, forever being admired for both their natural beauty and the personal meaning they carry.
Steeped in history, symbolism and sentiment, each stone tells a story unique to its wearer, making birthstone jewellery a deeply thoughtful way to celebrate life’s special moments.
This season, we shine a light on three captivating gems: Ruby , the fiery heart of July; Peridot , August’s vibrant green jewel; and Sapphire , September’s symbol of wisdom and calm. Each is a treasure in its own right, but they join together to celebrate colour, character, and craftsmanship.
July
RUBY
ALTERNATIVE: ONYX
With their unmistakable red glow, Rubies have been worn and adored worldwide for over 2,500 years.
Ruby is one of the Big Four and one of the world’s most durable gemstones, alongside Diamonds, Sapphires, and Emeralds. Its strength only enhances its overall appeal, making it perfect for jewellery and an ideal gemstone for a family heirloom.
Although the much-loved birthstone for July, Ruby is an inclusive gem – it’s beautiful to wear, perfect to gift and fits seamlessly into every jewellery collection.

Mine to Market
Have you ever wondered how we’ve kept our genuine gemstone jewellery so competitively priced - even after 21 years in the industry?
Since we began in 2004, we have always adopted a mine-to-market business strategy. By closely partnering with mine owners like Diavik and obtaining our gemstones directly from their source, we cut out the middlemen and the subsequent costs that come with this.
Our skilled gem experts travel the world, visiting remote and secure locations that few others have been able to access, to source ethically mined stones, which are then sent to established grading labs for verification.
This direct process guarantees transparency and authenticity and confirms that all our gemstones are the real deal. By overseeing everything from extraction to delivery, we have maintained high quality and sustainability standards for over 20 years.
Our mine-to-market strategy allows us to be with your jewellery piece on every step of its journey, reflecting our commitment to delivering exceptional products and our dedication to responsible business practices.
