Third Quarter 2025 Comparing ARMs + fixed-rate mortgage loans Message from our President & CEO 2 GECU security experts weigh in on spoofing
Whether you’re shopping for yourself, a child, or a grandchild, back-to-school season doesn’t have to break the bank! With a little planning and the right tools in your arsenal, you can make the most of your shopping experience and save on back-to-school purchases.
Leverage credit card reward points.
Redeem your credit card points for gift cards that can be used to make back-to-school purchases. Or, apply your points as a statement credit after shopping to give your wallet some reprieve.
Master MCC codes and bonus categories.
Most retailers’ merchant codes naturally align with credit card spending categories, like grocery or office supply stores, which can unlock bonus rewards. Pairing your purchases with categories that reward back-to-school purchases helps maximize points or cash back during seasonal promotions.
Monitor pricing and time purchases.
Wait for back-to-school sales in mid-July or sales tax holidays later this summer. You can also consider creating a wishlist. Many retail sites, like Amazon, provide this option to shoppers so they can monitor the price of their must-have items.
Score smart savings with our Platinum card.
Earn 3x points at U.S. supermarkets and wholesale clubs, 2x points at gas stations, and 1x points on all other purchases with the GECU Platinum card.1 That means you’ll earn while filling up your gas tank on the way to the store, making back-to-school-purchases, and even grabbing a bite to eat on the way home.
Redeem points for cash back to reduce your statement balance or turn them into merchandise, gift cards, and more.
Earn 10,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 within your first 90 days!2

inquiries. If Violet is unable to answer a question during regular business hours, she will connect you with a local GECU team member for further assistance. As with any of our team members, we are actively expanding Violet’s knowledge, ensuring she is a go-to resource for frequently asked questions. We are also in the process of updating our phone system so you can speak your request and Violet will get you connected directly.
Alongside Violet, we are preparing enhancements for Online Banking and the mobile app later this year. These updates will improve the user interface and overall experience, making it easier and more intuitive to manage your finances and find the features you need. Be on the lookout for more information about these and other enhancements as we round out the year.
In addition to product and service updates, we remain equally committed to giving back to the communities we serve. So far this year, our team members have dedicated more than 600 hours of service through our GECU Cares volunteer program. We have also provided financial

support to numerous organizations across the Tri-State, including Habitat for Humanity, Inner City Youth Opportunities, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, and more.
I would also like to take a moment to congratulate the eight high school seniors selected for this year’s Robert A. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship program (read more about them on page 4). These remarkable students exemplify the same deep commitment to volunteerism and community involvement as Mr. Cunningham. In the spirit of our NextGen philosophy, we will be looking for ways to expand our scholarship programs to celebrate and support diverse educational paths.
As you can see, it’s been a busy and exciting year so far. Moving through the remainder of 2025, I am enthusiastic about the initiatives and enhancements we have planned, all guided by our NextGen philosophy. We are honored to be part of your financial journey and look forward to what’s ahead. I hope you have a great rest of your summer, and as always, thank you for choosing GECU to be your financial partner.

When embarking on your homeownership or refinance journey, selecting the right mortgage depends heavily on your unique circumstances and future plans.
Adjustable-rate mortgage
Ideal for: Shorter stays, initial savings, and flexibility
With an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM), you’ll enjoy an initial rate that tends to be lower than longer-term, fixed-rate options, allowing for more affordable payments. Then, after the initial rate period ends, the rate increases or decreases periodically based on market conditions. This can be especially appealing if you anticipate moving or refinancing in a few years, expect your income to increase over time, or simply want to take advantage of future rate drops.
Fixed-rate mortgage
Ideal for: Long-term stability and predictable payments
A fixed-rate mortgage might be the better choice if stability and predictability are key for your financial goals. With a fixed-rate loan, your interest rate— and your monthly payments—stay the same throughout the life of the loan. This makes it ideal for those who plan to settle into their home long-term and prefer to avoid uncertainties tied to market fluctuations.
Whether you value flexibility or long-term consistency, GECU is here to provide the best local guidance and solutions to support your homebuying journey. Let us help you find the perfect fit for your future!
Violet is here for you 24/7/365 in Online Banking, our mobile app, or now directly on the GECU website—no login required.
Get quick answers to product or service questions, learn about available tools and resources, or get connected to a local Team Member for support during business hours.

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
Spoofing is a tactic where someone pretends to be a trusted source, such as a credit union representative, to trick individuals into sharing sensitive information. See our GECU security experts’ guidance on spoofing. Then, access more helpful tips by scanning the QR code or visiting: gecreditunion.org/spoofing
Austin Vaive Information Security Manager
Spoofing can appear highly legitimate, but there are red flags to help you spot it! For emails, examine the sender’s email address for inconsistencies or misspellings. Phone spoofing is harder to detect because caller IDs can be faked. To be safe, never share personal or account information unless you initiated the communication. If someone calls claiming to be from GECU and asks for your information, hang up and call us at: 513.243.4328 to verify the claim.

In the event you fall for a spoofing scam, keeping a pulse on your finances will ensure you can spot issues and report them quickly. Our Online Banking platform and mobile app are invaluable tools for monitoring accounts.1 Paper statements come monthly, leaving gaps of time where issues can go unnoticed. Instead, you can log in for a daily account check to ensure everything looks in order. Report any abnormalities for us to investigate; you can reach us multiple ways at: gecreditunion.org/contact
