A MESSAGE From Our President & CEO Timothy D. Ballinger
With 2023 just around the corner, I want to thank you for making this past year a great one at General Electric Credit Union. Our teams have worked hard throughout 2022, to elevate our products and services, and deliver the best banking experience possible – we have no intention of slowing down. As we strengthen our relationship with you further, while also deepening our commitment to local communities, I’m grateful for your membership and the trust you place in the Credit Union. It’s an honor to serve you.
Over the last several months, the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates to control inflation. The Fed will likely maintain these efforts until inflation slows or is mitigated, meaning we may remain in a similar rate environment for the time being.1 We’ve been adapting to this environment by introducing new products, enhancing features, and increasing rates for savings opportunities. And, as no two financial journeys are the same, we want to ensure you have a variety of solutions from which to choose. As your financial partner, we’re ready to meet you where you need us, so you can grow your hard-earned money.
Just as we work to develop our relationship with you, we are also supporting our communities, not only with sponsored and volunteer giveback events, but when the unpredictable occurs. Following the devastating weather in Goshen in July of this year, our teams contacted many impacted
families facing power outages, structural damage, and other difficulties – offering our support. Through these efforts, we were able to assist many members by deferring their loan payments. On this page, you can hear from a member who, because of being able to skip a payment, was able to take care of what mattered for her family during this challenging time. When our neighbors need us the most, we are there to lend a helping hand.
“The fact that you reached out to me, instead of me calling you, meant so much to me. Knowing I didn’t have to worry about making a payment allowed me to focus on getting my roof repaired and taking care of my family. At a time when other financial institutions would’ve sent late notices and penalties, you truly cared and offered a helping hand.”
– Abby H
Staying true to the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People,” we will strive to be the best we can be for you. We have dedicated team members who are listening for opportunities and feedback, and are sharing what they are hearing throughout our organization. Whether it’s on social media, through a survey, or a simple phone call, please continue sharing your voice as it’s essential in forwarding our efforts to Improve the Quality of Financial Lives. As always, thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

Trusts: How they work and why they’re important
It’s important to have plans in place so, should you pass, your loved ones know your wishes regarding your assets. A trust can help you accomplish this—but the benefits of estate planning don’t end there.
How trusts benefit you (and your loved ones)
Having a trust allows you to potentially avoid the probate process and maintain privacy over your estate. Probate has a negative reputation for a reason. This process makes your assets public record, is time-consuming, and can be stressful for loved ones.
A trust also gives you more discretion regarding your assets.
If you plan to give funds to a grandchild, through a trust, you have the power to say when and how they can use those funds (e.g., when they turn 18 years old and only for college).
How they work
A trust essentially allows an appointed third party (trustee) to hold assets and distribute them on behalf of beneficiaries. There are two types of trusts:
• A revocable trust (AKA a living trust) can be modified up until your passing.
• An irrevocable trust can’t be modified. You lose ownership over assets once they enter the trust. This is rarely beneficial but it can be to those who want to minimize estate taxes or safeguard assets from creditors.
