Alejandro R. Moreno was in dicted on Nov. 17 after he alleged ly stole a debit card belonging to a senior resident for whom he was doing home repairs and charged $8,300.
A Geauga County grand jury indicted Moreno, 35, of Cleveland, on one count of theft of person in a protected class, a third-de gree felony; one count of receiv ing stolen prop erty, a fifth-de gree felony; and one count of identity fraud against a person in a protected class, a sec ond-degree felony, according to the indictment, which was filed in the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas.

All of these crimes took place between April 23, 2025, and May 7, 2025, according to the indictment.

“Chester Township detectives identified Moreno and his unauthorized spending activity using the victim's bank card, leading to his arrest without incident after search and arrest warrants were

Chester Township Trustees unofficially discussed going out for bid for a new five-bay road garage, pending expected funding in January.
The township originally planned to replace the existing garage roof, but the project was estimated to cost $600,000 with Lakewood-based Larsen Architects. As a result, trustees determined a full rebuild would be a better investment.
The cost for a new garage is projected to be $5 million with App Architecture of Englewood, said Township Administrator Mark Purchase said at the Nov. 13
trustees meeting.
The township would need to bid the project as soon as possible to begin construction in the spring. However, they will not know whether they will receive funding from U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce until January, Purchase added.
“Unless there's $4.5 million to go get this thing done, that's the issue before all of you. I can't have them continue to draw a project that the board doesn't have the ability to fund,” he said.
Purchase also raised the option of delaying the project another year.
“But, if you wait another year, you're going to be at $4 or $5 (million dollars) with every cost and everything going up,” said Trustee
Trustees ultimately agreed — informally — to move forward with bidding a five-bay garage, with bays six and seven included as alternatives depending on funding.
“I think we’ll get the funding,” said Road Superintendent John Onyshko. “You're going to have from January to end of March to figure out whether you're getting the grant and then you can add those alternate (bays) into the contract”
Also present at the meeting was newly-elected Trustee James Brandon Davis, who will take Mazzurco’s seat early next year.
Out of 4,097 total votes cast, incumbent Trustee Craig Richter received 1,867 — securing his spot
for the next four years — and Davis, a write-in candidate, garnered 950, beating out fellow write-in candidates Juli Anne Mazzurco, who received 496 votes, Michael Petruziello, who won 446 votes, and Jamie Alves, who had 282 votes, according to the final results of the Geauga County Board of Elections.
“I am beyond grateful for the support from our township,” Richter said in a Nov. 5 interview. “Thank you to everyone who voted and believes in me and for those who were part of the election process. I am excited to get back to work and to continue to have a positive impact on our township. Chester Township is stronger when we work together.”

attempting to conceal his identity with a mask during the fraudulent transactions,” the release said.
Chester Police Capt. Jeff Sherwood urged residents to be cautious of who enters their home.
“One thing we try to get passed onto our residents is that you really have to be mindful of who you have in your home,” he said Nov. 7. “We really would like our residents to watch their finances closer.”
If there’s an “anomaly” in residents’ finances, contact law enforcement, Sherwood added.

The case was transferred to the Geauga County Common Pleas Court Nov. 17.
“I expect the arraignment will be scheduled in the next couple of days before (Common Pleas) Judge (Matt Rambo),” said Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz Nov. 17.
He was found living in a Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority apartment, he said.
“We’re going to be requesting a high bond because he’s not a citizen and we’ve only been told he’s here under some kind of protected status,” Flaiz said.
The police department received help from the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, Northeast Ohio Regional Fusion Center, Geauga County Prosecutor's Office and the Cleveland Metro Housing Authority Police Department on this case, Chester police said in their release.

The West G Bees Club recently celebrated a sweet success. Students harvested and jarred honey from the school’s very own beehive, which was an exciting milestone after their work caring for the bees.
The first batch of honey was a hit, with Superintendent Nancy Benincasa proudly purchasing the very first jar. The hands-on project has been a fun and rewarding way for students to learn about beekeeping, the environment and entrepreneurship.

When finished, remove the bucket from the feeder, place any unused seed into the feeder and place the empty seed packet in the marked receptacle.

Like it or not, winter weather will be arriving soon, and as always, the Chester Township Road Department will do its best to keep the roads clear and safe. The following information outlines some of the township’s winter season policies and procedures.
• Chillicothe Road (Route 306) and Mayfield Road (Route 322) are state roads. The plowing on these two roads is performed by Ohio Department of Transportation, not the Chester Township Road Department. To report a plowing issue on either of these roads, call the Geauga County ODOT office at 216-584-2315.
• Chester Township has a contract with the Geauga County Commissioners to plow the county roads, which are Mulberry Road, Wilson Mills Road, Sperry Road south of Mayfield, and a portion of Caves Road from Russell Township to Wilson Mills Road. To report a plowing issue on these roads, or any Chester Township road, contact the Chester Township Road Department at 440-729-9110.
• Chester Township has 183 lane miles of county and township roads, which take approximately three and a half hours to plow with seven crews. If continuous heavy snowfall is encountered, the response time is generally increased by an additional one to two hours depending on the caliber of the storm. It can, therefore, be several hours after a road is plowed before the truck returns for another pass.
• The township does not have a “bare roads” snow plowing policy. Typically, the main roads are salted thoroughly, while hills, curves and intersections are salted on secondary roads.
• The township is not responsible for the removal of snow thrown into any driveway from plowing the roads. Please avoid plowing, shovel-
ing or blowing snow from one’s driveway onto the roadway. Piles of snow left on roadways can create dangerous obstacles for motorists and plow trucks. Depositing snow on the roadway could be subject to a citation. Residential snowplow companies should also refrain from plowing snow from their clients’ driveways across the street and onto another resident’s property.
• Mailboxes should be kept in good condition to withstand being hit by the force of snow being thrown off the plow trucks. If a mailbox is damaged or the post is broken due to thrown snow, the township will not repair or replace it. The township will only repair or replace a mailbox that has been directly hit by the plowing equipment. If the township does have to replace a mailbox post, it will be done with a post that is no larger than 4 inches by 4 inches, because mailbox posts are required to be break-away if they are struck by a vehicle. If a plastic mailbox structure is hit by plow equipment, it will be replaced with a conventional box and wood post.
• Please set all garbage containers at least six feet back from the edge of the road in one’s driveway. This will help reduce the possibility of the containers being toppled.
• Finally, residents should instruct their children to stay out of the path of snow being thrown from township plows and not to tunnel in piled snow. The snow thrown off plows travels at a high rate of speed and may contain rocks or pieces of ice.
For questions or to report a plowing issue, please contact the Chester Township Road Department office at 440-729-9110. Any emergency situations should be reported to the Chester Township Police Department at 440-729-1234.
Thank you and drive safely this winter.
