FAMOUS DEATHS OF 2020 BY

On August 28th, 2020 Chadwick Boseman - who played the Marvel superhero T’Challa (a.k.a Black Panther) died at the age of 43 due to complications regarding the colon cancer he had battled for four years. The charismatic, and big-hearted, actor built his career by taking roles as historic black icons. Such roles as barrier-breaking baseball player Jackie Robinson in the movie “42�, music icon James Brown in “Get on Up�, and Thurgood Marshall in the movie “Marshall� represent some of his most iconic performances. However, Boseman’s most famous role was his part in the movies “Black Panther�, “Avengers: Infinity War�, and “Endgame� (where he played T’Challa.) His most recent roles were “21 Bridges� and Spike Lee’s drama “Da 5 Bloods�. He will also star in the upcoming Netflix film: “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom� which is based on August Wilson’s play, and will be Boseman’s final film appearance. Boseman was, notoriously, an inspiration to children, but also to people all over the world. While Boseman was fighting his own, private battle with cancer, he went and visited the St. Jude campus and brought with him both toys and joy for their patients.

Naya Rivera, star from the hit show “Glee� (perhaps better known by her character’s name: Santana Lopes) was found dead on July 13 (age 33). Police confirm that she was reported missing on July 8th when she embarked on a boating trip to Lake Piru in Ventura County, California with her four year old son (Josey Hollis Dorsey).

The young boy, found alone in the still adrift boat, told investigators that he and his mother had left the boat to swim. But, unfortunately, Jose would be the only one to return to the boat. A tragic story, Naya is remembered as an adventurous soul with a heart full of love.

Chi Chi DeVanye (also known as Zavion Michael Davenport) was an American Drag Queen and reality TV star most recognizable from their role on the shows “RuPaul’s Drag Race� and “RuPauls Drag Race: All Stars�. DeVayne had been hospitalized with a suspicion of kidney failure. In addition to their appearances on RuPaul's Drag Race, DeVayne had a small part on season 1 of the Apple TV+ anthology dramedy “Little America�, appeared on the Youtube Drag Race series “Yuhua Hamasaki's Bootleg Opinions�, and was a guest on an episode of the popular queer talk show “Hey Queen�.

Clifford Robinson, an 18-year veteran of the NBA and well known contestant on hit show “Survivor�, died August 29 due to complications from lymphoma at the age of 53. Robinson spent eight seasons of his NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers, helping the team reach finals in 1990 and 1992. And, as an actor/reality TV star, Clifford later appeared on the 28th season of “Survivor: Brains vs Brawn vs Beauty� in 2014.

Logan Williams, the actor known for playing the young version of Barry Allen on the CW superhero drama “The Flash�, died suddenly on April 2 at the age of 16. His mother, Marlyse Williams, confirmed his death to the Tri-City News of British Columbia, saying the family is "absolutely devastated." She added that the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing restrictions have made the family's mourning even more difficult.

Grant Imahara, known for the role he played on “The MythBusters�, died on July 13 (age 49) due to a brain aneurysm. The engineer joined the successful Discovery Channel series in season 3, quickly becoming a beloved member of the Build Team. After leaving “The MythBusters� in 2014, he reunited with former co-stars Kari Byron and Tory Belleci on Netflix's science-based series ‘White Rabbit Project� in 2016.

L.A. Lakers basketball legend, Kobe Bryant, died in a helicopter crash on January 26 along with his second oldest daughter Gianna Bryant (at the ages of 41 and 13 respectively). Bryant was drafted into the NBA at only the age of 18 one of the youngest players in NBA history. During his 20 years as a professional basketball player, he went on to become a five-time NBA champion. He also won an Oscar for Best Animated Short in 2018 for the film Dear Basketball.

Bryant was a black icon who many looked up to. And, Gigi was becoming quite the role model herself. They were both kindhearted people; full of love, hopes, and dreams - they will be sorley missed. 7

This is their 4th year open, and 3rd year o ff e r i n g c h e e r. U n d e rg o i n g a successful season, Fusion has won several national championships.

Coming from almost - nothing, GC3 Media has had an eventful two years. Last year, the program underwent a major transition as Stacy Carr took charge of, and began rebuilding, it from the ground up. And, while newspapers would always hold a place in the program, the rapidly changing times made certain the decision to begin broadcasting the news online as well. Nowadays, all news released by GC3 media can be found on GC3media.net.

One of the many ways GC3 Media has grown, and adapted, to fit modern culture is by developing a focus on Audio production. Through a podcast known as, “Busters Unfiltered”, members Dalton Janousek and Zaria Gottschalk have been a t t e m p t i n g t o r e a c h G C C C ’s s t u d e n t s i n a n e w, m o r e w a y.

From tips and tricks to making your time as a college student easier, to interviewing well known, and successful, l o c a l s s u c h a s To d d Ti c h e n o r ( a Wo r l d S e r i e s M L B U m p i r e ) , they try to cover a wide variety of topics that might peak the

interest of students and faculty in the area. In addition to the previously aforementioned technological upgrades and adaptations, the program is in the process of adding an ON CAMPUS, online radio station. Dalton, from “Busters Unfiltered”, has over 2 years of experience in the broadcasting industry and, as such, has been taking the lead on the new campus radio station. According to Dalton, “The online radio station will provide a way for students to get hands-on experience, and prepare them for future opportunities. It is our hope that the radio station will provide students with amazing skills such as (but not limited to) audio production, software management, commercial relationships, and other key aspects of radio broadcasting.”

In regards to specific content, the radio station will provide a “...mix...” of genres (voted for by the people of GCCC). As o f n o w, t h e m e d i a t e a m p l a n s t o have the radio station live, and active, in the 2021 Spring S e m e s t e r. B u t , w e d o m o r e t h a n audio production and newspapers here at GC3 media.

Last year, former media student Jacob Griffin (partnered with Mike Pilosof) recorded all major athletic events for the student body to be viewed at the main GC3 media website and the Broncbusters athletic page. Then, C r y s t a l A r r o y o - Te r r a z a s m a d e promotional videos for the college. In addition, this year, the video team was in charge of recording Exploration Day (which, while an immense amount of work, was decidedly successful and well done).

In addition to the many technological adaptations of the program, GC3 Media began releasing a magazine called the “ B r e a k a w a y ” e a c h s e m e s t e r.

Being the main focus of any given semester, our team pours their hearts and souls into each page. And, as every good magazine needs good visuals, we have also expanded our graphics department to go beyond magazine layouts and design. If someone needs a custom graphic made, we take commissions and design your graphics to your exact specifications (or ours, if you allow us artistic freedom).

Overall, the media department has grown significantly and, c l e a r l y, a d a p t e d a n d e v o l v e d f o r t h e b e t t e r. A s s u c h , w e a r e excited to see our program continue to grow as we move forward into the future and search for better ways to reach out to the student body and help t h e m c o n n e c t w i t h e a c h o t h e r.

#QUARANTINE LIFE Story By Alondra Fuentes

At the beginning of 2020, everyone had high hopes that the new year would bring with it new happiness. And, many plans were made to make this year wonderful. March, however, had different plans; A new virus known by most as COVID (or, Covid-19) seemed to make the world itself stop turning. Suddenly, the virus went from being an abstract concept for most to quarantine measures being put into place. And, ‘in-person’ communication had to occur with either a mask on and/or 6 feet apart.

Technology, even more so th an before, has become the new norm for interpersonal communication.

With everyone hanging out at home, people have been forced to explore even more avenues for staying social throughout the internet. With an ever expanding palette of social media platforms to choose from (TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc) Social media has become more profound in our daily lives than ever before. Through TikTok, families, friends, and strangers were offered a glimpse into “quarantine life” around the world. The #MyQuarentineLife trend topped the “WorldWide Trends” page on Twitter. Facebook and Ã È É ¶ ¼ Ç ¶ Â Ì º Ç º IJ Á Á º ¹ Ì ¾ É ½ pictures of delicious home made meals. And, despite the heaviness, and over all negativity, that conquered the air in 2020, there is still a bright side (if one is willing to look for it). Music and trends carried most people through É ½ º È º ¹ ¾ » IJ ¸ Ê Á É É ¾  º È ¢ ¶ à Πeven shared, on social media, how quarantine was a blessing in disguise. Of course, there are those who disagree; many feel like the world is ending.

Who could blame them (with everything going on). But, one can’t deny the positive trends.

Along with social media, the old (but new for some) game called “Among Us” brought people from all around the world together. And, some even formed real life friendships through the game.

Even more so than before, everyone was connecting through video games. Teasing each other, having fun while doing tasks, or even “murdering” crewmates, “Among Us” is here to stay.

But, Animal Crossing is also worthy of a notable mention.

Numerous Nintendo Switch users, suddenly, began making their own islands and visiting each other’s virtual worlds; all while having fun.

And, while games have held the focus of millions of people around the world during these troubling times, it is streaming services that, truly, “take the cake” when it comes to making the most of this year’s bad situations. ¬ ½ ¾ Á º Â ¶ Ã Î Ä » £ º É ij ¾ Í ĩ È È ½ Ä Ì È were postponed, Disney Plus took advantage of the gap in releases by producing shows like “Hamilton Live!” and “Mulan”. Disney made sure their audience still had something to watch, despite the world being on hold.

Meanwhile, Anime became the next popular trend.

Suddenly, both adult and teen audiences alike began watching recommended animes. People laughed, and cried, at the Animated, Japanese shows. But, more importantly, people also found something new to get them through quarantine.

Music has, also, become more relevant and profound than in previous years (due to global events). Artists have spent more time writing music and sharing it with their fans.

Even trendy songs on TikTok were being heard on the radio. One cannot deny that music has the power to heal.

And, artists such as Doja Cat, Cardi B, BTS (and more) released new songs to uplift the spirits of their fans.

While technology has ever grown and evolved, there's no denying that this year, especially, technology has really brought people together and helped ease the stress of such an eventful year. And, while it ½ ¶ È · º º Ã } ¶ Ã ¹ Ì ¾ Á Á · º ~ ¹ ¾ » IJ ¸ Ê Á É there’s always a silver lining when you look for it. So, the question then becomes, what makes you happy? What is a good distraction when everything gets too hard to focus on? While the answer is entirely subjective to your own personal preferences, we hope this article has helped narrow your sites on something new to help you get through these stressful times.
