The people!
The whistle blows, the play clock begins to tick, coaches are preparing their opposing teams, and the crowd grows louder. Despite all the noise, all you are seemingly able to hear is the voice of the number 4. The ball is snapped and the noise suddenly stops, and as the players on the field begin to collide one evasive jersey begins to break free, blinders faced toward the end-zone. As the bright yellow four begin to break free from the trenches, the noise arrives again, even stronger than before. Touchdown! And the man holding the pig skin is none other than Ty Perry. Ty Perry, completing his general education courses at GCCC, is from Goodyear Arizona. Perry, the starting quarterback for the 2022 Bron cobuster Football team, feels blessed to be in a leading position for his team and his school.
“My falling into Garden City came through with just five days left to spare in recruitment,” Perry said. “It’s a great and lucky opportunity for me to be here.” Perry is also grateful for the student
football culture at GCCC.
“There’s a lot of football support. I’ve never been to a school like this.” Perry said. “It’s cool being able to walk around the school and people knowing my name because football is such a big deal to them. It’s humbling having a culture around that supports me.”
Kaden Johnson, Freshman communi cations major and backup Quarterback, describes Perry as a vocal motivator as both a teammate and friend.
“He’s a great leader and loves to talk. He’s always going to be the person to tell you what you’re doing wrong and what you’re doing right.” Johnson said. “He’s a great guy overall. He’s not the guy that will walk past you and not say what’s up.”
Outside of football, Perry has enjoyed growing accustomed to living in Garden City. Originally from a larger city, He is all for making the most of what Garden City has to offer.
“My first few weeks after coming here I was like “Oh no I don’t know what I’m
going to do here,” but I grew into it and it’s fun,” Perry said. “It’s fun to practice through the day and hit up McDonalds and group up and play Xbox at night.”
Perry, a motivated student as well as ath lete, is amped to finish the fall semester as both an accomplished academic and successful leader for his football team.
