Palazzo Tarasconi ROY LICHTENSTEIN VARIAZIONI POP

Una grande mostra ripercorre la carriera e celebra il centenario della nascita di uno dei maestri più acclamati della Pop Art

Dall’11 febbraio al 18 giugno 2023 Palazzo Tarasconi celebra il centenario della nascita di Roy Lichtenstein (New York 1923) uno dei maggiori interpreti dell’arte del XX secolo e un maestro della Pop Art. L'artista americano viene raccontato attraverso una selezione di oltre 50 opere (edizioni e serigrafie, sperimentazioni su metallo, tessuti e plastica oltre a fotografie e video) provenienti da prestigiose collezioni europee e americane.

Anche se i suoi esordi nella litografia e nella xilografia risalgono al 1948, seguiti a distanza di un biennio dalle stampe all’acquaforte e acquatinta, fu dopo il periodo “eroico” della pop art, la prima metà degli anni ’60, che il suo lavoro e la sperimentazione nel campo della riproducibilità tecnica affiancarono sistematicamente quello della pittura, attuata con una pari metodologia rigorosa e organizzata su variazioni dei temi pittorici che l’artista ha sviluppato nel corso degli anni. La mostra, seguendo un andamento principalmente cronologico che coincide con uno sviluppo tematico, ripercorre l’intera carriera artistica di Lichtenstein a partire dagli ’60, in cui ritroviamo i suoi temi e generi, dai fumetti e la pubblicità, la natura morta, il paesaggio, le incursioni nell’astrazione e nelle forme dei grandi maestri, gli interni bidimensionali, fino alla serie dei nudi femminili.

From 11 February to 18 June 2023 Palazzo Tarasconi celebrates the centenary of the birth of Roy Lichtenstein (New York,1923) one of the greatest interpreters of 20th century art and a master of Pop Art. The story of this American artist is told through a selection of over fifty works (editions and serigraphs, experiments on metal, fabrics and plastic as well as photographs and videos) from prestigious European and American collections. Although his beginnings in lithography and xylography date back to 1948, followed two years later by etching and aquatint prints, it was after the “heroic” period of Pop Art, the first half of the 1960s, that his work and experimentation in the field of technical reproducibility joined systematically that of painting, implemented with an equally rigorous methodology and organized on variations of the pictorial themes that the artist had developed over the years. The exhibition, following a mainly chronological pattern that coincides with thematic developments, traces the entire artistic career of Lichtenstein, starting in the 60s, in which his themes and genres can be found, including comics and advertising, the still life, the landscape, forays into abstraction and into the forms of the great artists, two-dimensional interiors, and a series of female nudes.
