Where to go this month? Tsaghkadzor - Located in Kotayk region (marz) the town “of flowers’’ is a best place to visit in all seasons especially in winter for skiing. The town is surrounded by mount Teghenis where one can ski on the slopes of mountains. Internationally known ski and spa resort town is a best choice for both foreign tourists and Armenians who want to feel warm in cold days.
Jermuk - The resort town is situated in Vayots Dzor region (marz). It’s a first class health resort zone and recreational area where natural mineral waters coming out from the hills are good treatment for different diseases. Winter is especially beautiful here when you breathe the frozen but mild and clean air making your lungs feel like in heaven…
Aghveran - Dense forests, river streams running across the mountains and a crystal clean air; all these can be found in Aghveran; a resort town situated in Kotayk region (marz). Dilijan - There is no off season for Dilijan town located in Tavush region (marz). The forests of the town are welcoming the visitors both in summer andwinter. Here one can enjoy his/her stay in hotels having national architectural style inside and outside providing high standard facilities.
Saghmosavank - 13th century Armenian monastic complex located in Aragatsotn region (marz). The sight is especially beautiful in winter when the snow covered mountains surrounding the complex emphasize the beauty of the monastery. Legend of Tsaghkadzor Tsaghkadzor is an internationally known resort town, where the sport tourism is very developed and famous among native and foreign tourists visiting Armenia both in summer and especially in winter. The town is rich with high class hotels and rest houses offering a wide range of convenient services. Those who like winter skiing can find all the necessary facilities meeting their needs. As the majority of the names given to the locations, the name “Tsaghkadzor” also covers some hidden meaning. There are several legends connected with the name of the town and here are some of them: Situated in south-eastern part of Tsaghkunyats Mountains, it was very popular place for kings and ministers to hunt. According to one of legends, the town was covered with flowers by the goddess Astghik to hide from the Giant who was following

the beauty through the bushes. When the Giant tried to reach the goddess and touch her, Astghik dropped her flower cloak and the field was covered with flowers. Later the area became known as “Tsaghkadzor’’- Kloof with Flowers. Based on the Armenian historical books, the name of the town is related with the following: One of the maidens of Pahlavuni family ordered to build a castle on the canyon and to set a gorgeous flower garden where the most beautiful flowers of the world were planted. One day a wild wind arose and spread the flowers over the canyon. The girl asked father to build a cathedral where the clergymen would pray and bring the flowers back to the garden. Afterwards the cathedral was called Kecharis and the canyon Tsaghkadzor.

Armenian Soup “Spas”
Spas (spahs) is Armenian famous soup served warm in the winter and chilled during summer months. Sometimes called “tahnabour or madzoon abour”, this is a classic soup of Armenian cuisine. It’s made with typical Armenian yogurt like cream called “matsun” and wheat grain seasoned with mint or cilantro. There are several recipe variations. Some use parsley, others use cilantro or incorporate mint. Egg or wheat is necessary if the soup is hot; it keeps “matsun” (yogurt) from curdling.
Ingredients
2/3 cup hulled wheat 3 cups yogurt (Typical Armenian “matsun’’ called yogurt like cream) 3 cups water or chicken broth 1 egg 2T flour ½ tsp salt 4T butter 1 T mint (chopped) 1/3 T parsley or cilantro (chopped) 12 | TourInfo
Cooking instructions
Cook wheat in 4 cups of water or broth until tender. Blend “matsun’’ (yogurt), water, egg and flour with a beater. Cook until it boils and stir constantly with a wooden spoon. Add salt, cooked wheat and remove from heat. Add butter, mint and parsley and simmer five minutes.
Especially in this cold days serve the dish with warmth, love and smile.
