SPRING HAS ARRIVED!

The golf season is ever approaching as our weather continues to get better and better. Course conditions will continue to improve as we forge into season. Online tee times are available 7-days in advance starting at 8am in April. Aerification is scheduled from March 31st – April 11th (weather permitting).

This season we will continue to have earlier tee times on the tee sheet beginning at 7:30am on Friday’s, Saturday’s, and Sunday’s, beginning Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 23rd – Labor Day, Monday, September 1st. These tee times will be in 7- and 8-minute intervals for one hour. On days when events are scheduled these earlier tee times will not be available. Walking restrictions will begin on Saturday, May 24th, no walking prior to 9am.

As a reminder, singles, twosomes, and walk ups do not have priority on the golf course. Please do not expect to play through foursomes and threesomes that have scheduled tee times. Our goal is to create a more enjoyable golf experience for the entire membership, we ask that you do your part to assist us in achieving this goal.

Range balls are located in the Golf Shop until we go to our full range set-up later in April. Please check in with the golf staff or starter prior to your practice session. SPRING COURSE AERIFICATION

Aerating greens will create a short-term disruption in the golfer’s eye, but the long-term benefits seriously outweigh any inconvenience. Although it may seem like our maintenance team likes to mess with the golfer and aerate twice a year because we like to. The truth is that aeration is an extremely labor-intensive process that takes many hours of hard work. Here are five of the top reasons we take the time to get this process done right.

1. We Aerate to Improve, Not Annoy

Putting greens receive more traffic than any other playing surface. The aeration process helps relieve the compaction caused by all that traffic. It also helps create a firm, smooth putting surface by controlling thatch and promoting healthy turf roots.

2. Sand and Seed

A heavy application of topdressing following aeration may appear to make putting greens less playable. However, filling aeration holes with sand helps create a smoother surface. Sand also creates channels for water and air movement, dilutes thatch and helps putting greens recover from aeration more quickly. This is our opportunity to inter-seed bent grass into the greens creating good seed and soil contact for germination.

3. Reduce Thatch

Thatch is a layer of old plant material that accumulates at the soil surface. If thatch on putting greens is not diluted by aeration and topdressing, it will act like a sponge, holding water near the surface. Excessive thatch creates soft playing conditions, inconsistent green speeds and increases the risk of disease.

4. Give the Soil What It Needs

Aeration gives us the opportunity to apply nutrients directly to the soil. We apply any nutrients that are deficient and sweep into the holes with the sand.

5. Timing is Everything

After a long winter of abuse, now is the time to give the greens some love. We aerate in early spring to repair any winter damage and to kick start a healthy growing season.

During aerification, we will have 18 holes available; course rotations will change based on the daily aeration schedule.

IN OUR COURT

TIP OF THE MONTH: LEG DRIVE

This month’s tip is all about the importance of using your legs while hitting your shot. Whether it be tennis or pickleball, it is so important to maximize your power and control by staying in a low position for as long as possible. When a play loads with using their legs the power behind their shot is heavy. If a player lifts out of their shot early they typically see their shot go down into the net. My tip is to try and stay down through until after you have hit your shot then allow yourself to lift after the contact has been made.

Click hear to watch Greg demonstrate how to use leg drive to your advantage.

FEELING STRESSED? STRATA MED CAN HELP

April is National Stress Awareness Month , and while stress is inevitable, we at Strata Med believe the key is learning to manage it, rather than trying to eliminate it. Read on to discover how Strata Med practitioners can help you manage stress before it becomes overwhelming.

KEY STRATEGIES TO BUILD RESILIENCE

Dr. Sheila Bee, certified in Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) , offers practical, research-backed techniques to help you manage stress and build resilience. As part of her 8-week program, Dr. Bee teaches strategies to help you navigate life’s pressures:

1. Prioritize Sleep: Less than 7 hours of sleep increases stress perception, making challenges feel like threats.

2. Movement is Medicine: Regular exercise helps you stay positive under stress.

3. Fuel Your Body “Hangry is a Real Thing”: Stay hydrated and eat balanced meals to support mental and physical performance.

4. Lean on Social Support: Positive relationships reduce stress intensity and speed recovery.

5. Breathe: Slow, mindful breathing calms the mind and improves focus.

Read Dr. Bee's full Stress Management Toolkit blog here.

If stress or anxiety is holding you back, book a complimentary discovery session with Dr. Bee to learn more about the SMART Course and how it can help you thrive.

HOW ACUPUNCTURE CAN RELIEVE STRESS

Kelli Miller , head/senior acupuncturist at Strata Med, has been practicing acupuncture for over 24 years. Kelli specializes in difficult to treat conditions and/or conditions that have not been helped by other treatment modalities, and explains that acupuncture can effectively address stress by targeting underlying imbalances in the body, as revealed through Chinese medicine's tongue and pulse diagnosis. Many patients experience profound relief, leaving treatment feeling lighter and more at ease, particularly those dealing with stress, anxiety, and the emotional shifts of menopause.
