Alhumdulilah, as Term 3 concludes we reflect on our educational practices and our endeavours to instil 21st century skills in our students through emphasis on our instructional plans that focused on creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration to prepare our students for the future
Through various activities our objective has been to train our students minds being capable of doing/learning new things; striving to attain their optimum potential.
I am very grateful to each of my teachers who understand that children learn differently, and that instruction must be geared to the various learning styles in each classroom wherever possible As such, we are proud of our students efforts in 'everything that they have done this term' from the Premiers Spelling Bee competition, Islamic Quiz competition, Quraan competition, Book Week Drama presentations, Poetry competition to the 'R U OK Day' Activities.

In the name of Allah, All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah
We thank Allah SWT for His marvelous blessings
Praise be to Him Creator of the Heavens, the Earth, and all that exists, Author of time, Disposer of affairs, and Giver of all goodness.
Term 3 has been an engaging and productive time for our students at Garden College. Particularly, in their educational journey of Islamic, Arabic, and Quranic Studies. As the glorious Eid ul Adha fell in the holiday break between term 2 and term 3, term 3 started with hints of the Hajj season still lingering in our hearts Emerging from the break having worshipped Allah and participated in the joys of Eid, an atmosphere of comfort, vigour and vitality overtook the staff and students alike, and they were all evidently aspiring to always do their best For Allah has stated in Surat Ar Ra’d Chapter 13 verse 28 of the Holy Quran:
Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort
Channelling their fervour in an inspirational way, students throughout the high school collaborated to prepare a Hajj Journey Mural, spanning a whopping 10 metres, which depicted the various acts of worship and sites visited in the Pilgrimage to Makkah. Joyously, they spread their wishes of Eid Mubaarak and duas of acceptance from Allah SWT. This fervour was culminated with the entrance of the Hijri new year, shortly after, which signalled a time for reflection and new resolutions stemming from the Prophetic tradition:
SHAYKH HAISAMFrom Shaddad ibin Aws (r.a.a) he reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The clever person is the one who holds himself to accountability and works for what is after death. And the incapable person is the one who follows his desires and merely hopes upon Allah " He (At Tirmithzi) said: ‘ This is a good narration ’ He (At Tirmithzi) said: ‘ The meaning of his (ﷺ) saying: "Who holds himself to accountability", is to say the one who judges his soul in the world, before he is judged on the Day of Judgement ’ It has been related that 'Umar ibin Al Khattaab (r a a) said: "Scrutinise yourselves before you are scrutinised and prepare for the Great Inquisition The reckoning of the Day of Judgement is only light for the one who scrutinised himself in the world." And, it has been related that Maimoon ibin Mihraan (r.a.a) said: "The slave (of Allah) will not be a Taqi (pious servant) until he has held himself to account, just as he would hold his partner to account, where did he get his food and clothing." Narrated in Jami at Tirmithzi 2459
At Garden College, students are taught that our success in this life and the hereafter lies in following the commands of Allah SWT and following the way of the Prophet (ﷺ) Holding to the Holy Book of Allah as being their guide, students built on the positive vibe in which the term started and competed vigorously in the Annual Quran Competition For this, the students spent many hours in class and at home, memorising and revising, new and old Surahs, with aspiration to success. Congratulations to all the participants and winners!!
The Garden College family would also like to extend a special thank you to local Imam Hikmet of Parafield Garden Masjid, who kindly dedicated time to attend and sit as honourable guest judge, as well as our own resident Imams, Shaykh Abdulsalam and Shaykh Yusuf. Your efforts are deeply appreciated and thank you for being an inspiration to our staff and kids! And last, but not least, we share our appreciation to the tireless efforts of the Garden College Religious Department, leadership, staff, and parents for organising, managing, and supporting the students in this glorious event, which I am sure will bear fruits of love for the Noble Quran in the hearts of our kids and build a culture of regular Quran recitation for many years to come, in sha Allah
In addition, students engaged vigorously in Arabic learning. The upper primary and high school students studied under themes of Visiting the Sick and Visiting the Doctor. They learnt about the Patient Doctor interaction and how to inform of their pain and sickness in proper Arabic sentences. They studied the vocabulary involved in the conversations including the terminology used and the names of certain medical devices and tools. They grasped Arabic Prophetic traditions regarding the themes and the sunnah practices involved. They demonstrated their knowledge by designing informative posters of the Prophetic hadeeths, the medical scenarios, and the medicinal devices in Arabic.
Furthermore, students in junior high school Islamic lessons studied topics of History and Jurisprudence. They tackled the in depth biographies of Bilaal ibn Rabaah radiAllaho ‘anho, the First Moathzan of Rasool Allah sallAllaho a’layhi wa sallam, and Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid radiAllaho ‘anhaa, the first wife of Rasool Allah sallAllaho a’layhi wa sallam. As part of their study of Khadeejah (r.a.a), the students also learnt about six other wives of the Prophet (ﷺ). They demonstrated their knowledge with creative posters and digital presentations They further learnt about Puberty from an Islamic perspective, covering the signs of puberty, the consequences of puberty and the Islamic obligations after puberty During these lessons, students were segregated and taught this topic by similar gender teachers Parents of students in these age groups are advised to make their child feel comfortable to discuss this topic with them at home Children moving on to adulthood should be informed in due time of the critical nature of this change as Allah SWT has mandated that the register of deeds, of the now adult, is to start being recorded upon them in this life. As such, it is crucial that the adolescent child gets the support they need to understand this transition well, know what to expect and how to Islamically manage it, and feel comfortable to ask about these matters when the need arises. Parents that would like coaching or guidance in this matter from an Islamic perspective are welcome to contact the school and make an appointment with any of our resident Imams to discuss the topic.
As the term ends, we reflect on the past and prepare for the future. We ask Allah to forgive our sins, overlook our faults, guide us to the righteous path, and bestow us with strong Eemaan and Islamic practice, such that will warrant us the highest levels and bliss of Jannatul Firdaws.
Wassalamo a’laykom wa rahmat Allah wa barakaatoh

Mrs MaghazjiTerm 3 is coming to an end. It has been a very busy term for us with lots of activities and valuable learning. We have just finished all the tests and exams and all students should be proud of themselves for working hard.
For Literacy this term, we have looked at narrative texts and poetry which are interesting genres. Students used their imagination and develop their creativity in writing fiction stories and beautiful poems Practising and developing students’ speaking, listening, reading and comprehension skills are still continuing. It is an ongoing process that is essential in acquiring and building good literacy skills. We will look at other grammatical features to further strengthen students’ language conventions.

They explored a variety of non standard units to measure things in the classroom. We are now actively learning the calendar relating to seasons, months, days and the dates
For the strand in Science of Earth and Space Sciences, students are studying Earth’s natural resources. We connected this learning to Islam and what Allah SWT has bestowed on this Earth for us to use They produced such amazing dioramas for their STEM Project! They also investigated resources that are wasted and brainstormed on how to save our valuable resources.
Since students have been using Chromebooks for Digital Technology, they have been learning the various skills and practising drawing and making shapes on ‘Paint Z’ They produced some lovely pictures
In Drama, students explored emotions and feelings. They got to act out little scenes that displayed different emotions, feelings and reactions They had an opportunity to display their talents during our Book Week play They had such fun!

All praises to Allah SWT for having bestowed His mercy upon all of us and allowing us to complete another busy and successful term at Garden College. Subhanallah, I am glad to share some of the students' fantastic projects on ‘Parents and Imams this term.
Ma sha Allah, our students, enjoyed learning about ways of respecting and loving parents Please engage children in Islamic books or watch stories such as Awais Alqarni.
The project done on interviewing our local Imams was an excellent experience for my Year 3 students, and I appreciate all those parents who took the time to make it possible and especially thanks to the Imams for answering all the questions asked by the students with beautiful pieces of advice such as: “Know the Quran to know the life.”
“Spend time learning and understanding the Quran ”
“Avoid wasting time! Use your time wisely by learning the Quran, obeying parents, and listening to teachers.”
“Know your strength and be a role model for others.”
Alhamdulillah, Year 3 students memorised the Adhaan and its meanings and enjoyed the activities during the lessons Now it’s time to work on making the Masjid module during the holidays I want to ask our parents of Year 3A and 3B students to help their child make the Masjid model. Students are expected to make the model of any masjid and bring it to school in week 1 of Term 4. May Allah allow our children to take part in building real masjids in the future, In Sha Allah.
Mashallah, our year 6 students are very helpful in teaching wudu to their buddies in year 2. Thank you, year 6’s May Allah reward you immensely in both worlds. I also request our Year 2 parents to help their children memorise Salah The mini Salah booklets are given to the students to use during the holidays In Sha Allah, students will be assessed in memorising Salah duas.

Have a nice holiday!
In Digital Technology various tasks/project were undertaken by different year levels. Continuing our association with Grok Learning (Designed by University of Sydney, a learning management resource system used extensively all over Australia and all aligned to ACARA Digital Technology outcomes).
Students in Year 7, 8 and 10 went through a programming challenge based on their abilities which started on July 25th for six weeks Students were given different weekly problems for which they had to use computational thinking to write (basically) a Python program.
The NCSS Challenge is a programming competition open to all school students and teachers The Grok Academy team have been running coding competitions like the challenge for over 12 years.
The NCSS Challenge is unlike any other programming competition We’ll teach you how to program as we go along, rather than expecting you to be an expert already If you’re a seasoned coder, we have something for you too the problems range from relatively simple to mind bendingly hard.
Starting on Monday 25th July, 2022 and running for about 6 weeks, we will release notes and problems containing the information you will need to complete the week's programming challenges.
Students were enrolled in Newbie, Beginners and intermediate level challenges, with one year 8 student attempted the advanced version of the challenge. All students who wither scored a credit, distinction or High distinction would be getting a certificate at a school assembly.
Student also participated in following challenge’s organised by the office of the Commissioner for Children and Young People
It is expected their activities would be submitted on the digital commissioner’s website by the end of this term.
We have reached the end of Term 3 and our high school students have persevered across all of their subject areas! Examination week gave our hard working students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and reflect on their Term 3 learning Fantastic effort from everyone!
My Year 7 Students thoroughly enjoyed learning about persuasive writing. We learned about the Greek philosopher Aristotle, who used 3 areas of persuasion that are guaranteed to convince an audience We used his fool proof theory to create effective advertisements, sell a product through an oral presentation task and to write an effective car advertisement.
My Year 8 students spent the term perfecting on their essay writing skills. Using their knowledge on persuasive writing, we explored different types of resources online and used them as evidence to back up our opinion and argue a point in persuasive writing We can now correctly reference information and use it to convince an audience to agree with our own perspective.
My Year 10's viewed a documentary, Super Size Me starring Morgan Spurlock They enjoyed watching a social experiment unfold regarding Morgan’s diet and arguing the controversy behind his journey
He decided to view the health and psychological effects of eating Mcdonald's for a month In the documentary, we observed Morgan’s conditions deteriorate and conducted a persuasive essay based on the outcome of his experiment. It is safe to say that our students are now more cautious of their day to day diet They have used extensive research and persuasive language to successfully appeal to an audience in their persuasive essay task.
I would like to extend a thank you to our Garden College community, parents and carers for their ongoing support regarding our student’s education throughout this year
There are a couple of things that I encourage our students to do to follow up on their learning and literacy development during the term break:
1 Try an audiobook or listen to a podcast – You can use your library membership to access a range of audiobooks on site or online. It is so entertaining listening to a voice other than your own read a novel. Try one of these podcasts: Short and Curly / Global News Podcast
2. Short Journal Keep a short journal of all the fun things you do, so you can remember, reflect and share the details with your school friends and teachers next term
3. Access puzzles and games To help exercise your brain and develop your problem solving skills
If you have any queries please contact me via email: y.ismail@gardencollege.sa.edu.au otherwise I look forward to seeing you at our parent teacher interviews, In Sha Allah!
Science at DP Campus has been an immersive learning experience this term. A massive thank you to some of our students for being part of the annual Mark Oliphant SASTA competition. Madinaabonu, Yasmin and Dalia had their work displayed at the showgrounds along with other students from across the state! Check out the pictures attached to see some of their work!
We’ve seen our Year 8’s grasp onto their scientific writing skills. They’ve demonstrated an improvement with analytical and literacy skills. They also showcased a ‘Cell Expo’ during Science week, which put their models on the forefront for students and staff from year 7 11 to learn from
The Year 7’s have enjoyed learning about the Islamic Golden Age and how it contributed to our understanding of Maths, Science, Art, Literature and Medicine.
Our fabulous year 9’s have been focussing on health, disease and body systems this term to enable them to have a wholistic understanding of interconnected systems.
Thank you to all our students for persevering through another fantastic term!
