The badminton shots can be classified broadly into two different shots, offensive or defensive shots.

The Defensive Badminton Shots The Clear Shot •

In the clear shot, you should ensure to contact the shuttlecock just around the middle of your racket head. The main objective here is to make the shuttle go up high in the air and go down to reach your opponent’s back court.

The little time you earn by doing so helps you to return to the base before the next return.

This strategic move also works especially when your opponent hovers near the fore-court, forcing him to retrace to the back position to get the shuttle.

The Drive Shot •

The drive shot or the basic flat shot is directly hit at the net. It can be easily executed and what’s more? It is a fierce counter-attacking shot! Your racket should be held in a way that the head faces straight ahead.

It can be something like a strategy to aim the shot right at your opponent who won’t be able to either react or shift his body weight just in time as they would instinctively try to duck the shot.

Offensive Badminton Shots The Drop Shot •

The best time to use the drop shot is when the shuttle heads towards you, right in the first half of your court. To master this stroke, the player must hit the shuttlecock hard downwards, veering towards the opponent’s fore-court, aiming for it to go just over the net.

You want to make it look like a drive, but you end up using a little force to coerce the shuttle over the net. This shot can be strategically used when the opponent comes near the back court, and he/she anticipates your stroke to be a clear or drive.

When you reach a more advanced level, you can try slicing the shuttlecock from the midcourt so it bounces quite nicely over the net. This shot will work like magic, especially when your opponent is in the backcourt and it will make the opponent lunge forward.

It is hard to return when the shuttlecock drops to the net. However, it may prove to be a risky proposition for you as it may not be able to cross the net and hence, it would cost you the rally.
