BLUE HOUSE MUSIC: CONNECTING MUSIC AND EARLY LITERACY*

Explore natural connections between language and music through singing and storytelling during this music and early literacy workshop. Blue House Music is a program for caregivers and children ages birth - 5 years old that encourages healthy development through meaningful experiences.

Community Arts and Literacy WITH YALA*

Explore stories through the performing arts with Young Audiences of Louisiana. This interactive workshop provides a unique learning experience for children ages 6 months to 5 years old and their caregivers. Building on the success of Louisiana Wolf Trap residencies, YALA's arts-integrated workshop assists caregivers with early literacy strategies they can implement at home and engage children in a developmentally appropriate experience that combines storytelling, music, and movement. FOR NEURODIVERGENT CHILDREN THE NEURODIVERGENT PLATE

Is mealtime a struggle with your child? Families with neurodiverse children can gather in a comfortable environment in which food can be introduced as something to experiment with. Assistant Professor Michel Harris and her graduate students of Dominican University of River Forest, Illinois will provide support and resources for caregivers to introduce foods in an innovative manner.

HOOPING FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS WITH HEY NOW HOOPING

In this beginner class, learn to keep the hoop spinning on your waist and other ways to move the hoop using your hands. Hooping builds core strength and improves flexibility and balance. If you haven’t had success with hooping around your waist in the past, it might be the hoop. Specialty handmade hoops that are bigger and easier to use will be provided for use during the program.

Summer Fun Adult Creative Writing Contest

The New Orleans Public Library wants your short story or poem for our 2025 Summer Fun Adult Writing Contest. This year’s theme is “Harmony.” You can interpret the theme any way you like. Harmony can be found in musical compositions, the rhythms of the natural world, symbiotic relationships, or anywhere separate components converge into something new. Show us harmonies falling out of tune or discord resolving into harmony.
