MARIZA:
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2024, 5 PM $32 - $87
This international superstar was raised in one of the most emblematic and traditional neighborhoods of Lisbon, Mouraria. Fado, the musical culture inhabiting that and every other corner of Portugal, influenced Mariza from a very early age.
Inspired by the big names and voices of the expressive and profoundly melancholic genre, Mariza quickly became a local phenomenon and then proceeded to make her name and music echo across borders. She serves as an ambassador of Portugal with every note, every song and every concert.
To her rapturous fans, Mariza is the “heiress to the state of mind of the Portuguese people.” Come and see why.

OFFBEAT COMEDY SERVED UP LIVE
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2024, 7 PM
$42 - $67
Maria Bamford is revered for her deeply personal and experimental comedy about mental illness. There are many ways to experience Maria on screen, but the best way of all to enjoy her offbeat comedy is live at the Gallo Center.

This stage adaptation is true to the novel in which Orwell depicts with great power the horrors of man’s fate in a society where Big Brother is always watching—where everything that is not prohibited is compulsory. Orwell himself once said, “I do not believe that the kind of society I describe necessarily will arrive, but I believe that something resembling it could arrive. The moral to be drawn from the dangerous nightmare situation is a simple one: Don’t let it happen. It depends on you.”
