A

new booking surge for spa mini breaks has recently emerged in the UK as Brits seek to combine relaxation with a romantic weekend away. According to Bing Ads Spring Travel Insights report, Spa mini breaks made up nearly a quarter of total search volume relating to short breaks. Spa mini-breaks were found to be most popular amongst the millennial demographic, with half of searches coming from the under 35 year old group. So what does this mean for the Isle of Man? Local 5 star boutique retreat, Seascape of Laxey Bay, is setting the pace for this emerging trend in thcree Isle of Man offering guests 5* luxury Bed and Breakfast accommodation with Sea Spa facilities which is so highly coveted they have an exclusive 3 month waiting list. Hotelier and entrepreneur Michelle Hitchen had the vision of building the ultimate setting to create the perfect spa-cation (“spa vacation”) combing opulent rooms and decor, fine foods, infra-red sauna, relaxation suites and outdoor hot tub overlooking awe-inspiring sea views of Laxey Bay. Built in 2008, Seascape of Laxey Bay is a cathedral of relaxation; boasting floor to ceiling glass which immerses every room with beautiful light. “As you walk through the doors, you are presented with

panoramic views from all sides, and it feels as though you are walking into the ocean” comments owner Michelle. The retreat was designed by local architects Penketh Millar to Michelle’s vision which was influenced by contemporary architecture in Marbella, Lanzarote and Australia. The architectural design brings the outside world in, making the most of the panoramic seascapes. The building has split levels with a lofty 3m ceiling which never changes height so the line of sight to the ocean is never interrupted. Hues of white, ivory, silver and pale gold reside throughout the retreat’s opulent decor, from the stylish furnishings imported from Marbella to the ivory silk cushions and rugs which together create a reflective, relaxing space. The decor is an eclectic mix of bespoke local artist’s glass pieces, Nancy Corkish paintings, Buddhist artwork and eastern antiques gathered during Michelle’s travels. “Every piece has a story and is a talking point. My husband Glenn and I wanted to help people truly relax in their surroundings, enjoying breathtaking sea views whilst diving into Glenn’s fine cooking made with local ingredients”. Drawing upon her natural entrepreneurial spirit, Michelle saw a gap in the Isle of Man market for creating a 5* luxury bed and breakfast with Spa facilities, thus launched Seascape of Laxey Bay in 2016 and exclusive Sea Spa Day packages in ISLE OF MAN PREMIER MAGAZINE
