Gallery B612's Story Initially founded in mid 2020 under Prince and Fox, LLC, Gallery B612 aspires to be a gathering place for artists, dancers, fashion designers and creatives from all walks of life. To this date, the gallery has featured a Solo Exhibition from founder and curator, MiYoung Margolis and served as a gathering place and rehearsal space for MMDC and Dare to Dance.

Gallery B612 is a literary reference to Asteroid B612 in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's book titled, The Little Prince. Gallery B612 is our "art planet," our gallery and studio, in the Seattle SODO neighborhood.

We believe it's important to provide space for artist to share their voice in a physical representation where others can view and discuss the pieces as well as mingle with others in our community. In our modern American world, there are less and less public spaces for people to spend their free time. Here, we will hope to provide safety and connection for the Seattle community.

At Gallery B612, you can find original works of MiYoung Margolis, as well as juried exhibitions of work by local and international artists.

New Beginnings Art Exhibition January 19th - February 17, 2024 On the evening of January 19th, 2024 Gallery B612 held the Artist Reception celebrating the works of 16 artists totaling 40 art pieces, and featuring 1 performing artist.

The artists were able to attend the reception and connect with the fellow art community of local artists, art collectors, and friends alike while simultaneously showing the selected works of the New Beginnings Art Exhibition.

Susan Bagrationoff is a professional surrealist whose body of work focuses on faeries and folklore, which are the subjects of her creations, utilizing nature within the Pacific Northwest for realistic reference. Her paintings are conjured using copious amounts of modeling paste, multiple layers of acrylic paint in brilliant hues, and metallic mediums to give a magickal ‘vibe’ to her creations. Susan graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2002 from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

Susan has displayed works in exhibitions at Gallery B612 and The Fishbowl in Seattle. She also exhibits her art through online organizations such as Biafarin, HMVC Gallery New York and Arteom Gallery.

Blinding Gaze 30" x 24" x .75" approximately 5lbs Light modeling paste and acrylic paint This original acrylic painting catches a cloud sylph traveling through the sky at sundown, allowing a sliver of the brilliant rays to peek through her eye, inspiring hope through dark times. This piece was inspired by the intense sunsets during Fall in the Pacific Northwest. She was crafted using palette knife techniques and Impressionistic brush strokes for a dramatic flair.

Artist Statement In a world of so much chaos, an escape into the realm of faeries brings peace and glamour into our dimension. Faeries have always held my fascination when I encounter them within our realm. I utilize the magic within my artistic soul to summon these creatures so that anyone can experience their charm and be inspired to believe in what they cannot see.

My work is conjured onto canvas using copious amounts of modeling paste and acrylic paints with multiple layers of various brushstrokes and the use of palette knife techniques. Brilliant colors and metallic hues are used to enable the faeries to emphasize their `vibe`, inspiring the viewer to discover the essence of these beings. The texture of their skin, hair and backgrounds are vital to conveying the elemental qualities of each fae. I am perpetually discovering new ways to bring my faeries to life so they can gaze upon us humans as we admire their portraits.

Once In A ...

24" x 18" x .5" approximately 3lbs Light modeling paste and acrylic paint This original acrylic painting draws in the essence of the Blue Moon from the heavenly bodies that surround her. This illuminated fae casts her gaze onto the world below, ushering in new, unbridled energy for fresh starts. Creation of this piece began on the second new moon (blue moon) in August.

I have been an artist all of my life. Earning a BA in Fine Arts with a concentration on Photography at Central Washington University It's my passion to get people to stop and look around. It is so easy to get caught up in life and forget what an amazing place it is we live.

Beauty is everywhere.

Artist Statement I have been an artist my whole life. From drawing flies when I was 5, through studying fine art in college, till today. I have always loved painting abstracts, and now as my life responsibilities have changed, I have been delving into how deep abstracts can go into the psyche.

Painting pulls out what we can't describe in words. The world has changed for us all in the past several years and painting allows me to process and share what life is now to me.

The Pacific Northwest is my home, whether at the beach, in the woods, or cozy in the house. Being so close to Sea-Tac International Airport allows for real visits, or flights of the imagination.

Artist Statement Drawing in the light of day and painting with the heart of a child, I gather together by hand my impressions. My images are my attempts to distill the wonder of childhood, to touch lightly upon its essence in the ephemeral moments before they fade, revealing the inner spirit of the child at play.

Michele Knox is a multifaceted woman, She grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and while she didn’t pursue art in her younger years, she did in her later years. She picked up a brush, and hasn’t stopped since last year.

Michele quickly integrated herself in the art world, walking herself straight into Olympia Lamplighters, a local art studio. She has had her art featured in the gallery’s window display, and on their Instagram. Soon after, Michele took an online course, where she met her mentor Cheryl Wilson, who has also become a good friend. Michele’s relationship with Olympia Lamplighters has resulted in the sale of two works of art, and she’s excited to see what that relationship may turn into.

Artist Statement My process is unpredictable and often surprising, as I never know what will emerge from my initial thoughts of movement and color. The paint, the brush, and flow speak to me, leading me on a journey of creation. My ultimate goal is to connect with my audience on a deep and personal level, even if only for a fleeting moment. I strive to evoke a sense of the soul within each viewer, allowing them to feel and experience something profound through my art.

I started painting in acrylics during the pandemic as a creative outlet but also because I have always loved art. I have practiced a variety of styles and found that abstract painting/multi media is the most fulfilling for me.

Semi-retired now from design work, I paint in my studio at home in Lacey, WA and thoroughly enjoy the local art scene and the community of amazing artists.

Sisters 24x48, acrylics Sisters is an abstract depiction of the journey of 5 sisters, one regretfully gone now, who have shared the love, despair, laughter and familarity that only siblings can. The owl symbolizes transformation and the future and the sparrow symbolizes forgiveness.

Artist Statement I embed a message in each of my paintings to myself and whoever views it. The communication is either written clearly on the canvas or hidden beneath layers of paint, sometimes using type I have set and printed for the piece. The message is almost always uplifting, and hopefully visually interesting to the viewer as well. This is a journey I hope to travel for the rest of my life, always willing to learn and take the next step.

Growing up in the artsy tech city has allowed me to explore different media which eventually led me to pursue Interior Design. Why Interior Design and not just a simple arts degree? Not only do I make art custom art pieces, but I am also a designer as well as I’ve always have taken a natural liking to putting inspiration concept and design together.

Artist Statement "There is no such thing as just one great idea as the variations of an idea can be endless." The scope of my exhibit is to showcase my signature perspective of how one idea can spout into multiple ideas that create worlds of their own.

The concept of this exhibit is to showcase the perception of portal and transformation of sunrises during the days and season in an abstract form.

Through using colors, light reflection and organic patterns, each piece expresses uniqueness and paints a story of the captured sunrise and or sunset within the canvas itself.

Tom is a painter and filmmaker. Born on the East Coast, Tom has spent most of his life in the Western US. He lives in Seattle with his husband Kurt and their two dogs, Crouton and Macaron.

Marlow Honroe: Famous, Blue Raincoat 16"x20" Panting In my attempt to pay homage to the timeless artistry of Shin Saimdang, I was drawn to her depiction of plum blossoms—a symbol of nobility.

Enthralled by the profound beauty of her painting, I took on the task of repainting it, striving to remain faithful to the essence of the original work.

As for my art background, I have painted off and on for about 30 years. I did both undergraduate art studies at the University of Washington, took many courses at Pratt Institute, Seattle and studied both in person and remotely under several successful practicing artists. In 2020, I completed three Art2Life 12-week intensive programs in 2021, 2022 and 2023. I went to Ireland to study under Pauline Agnew a very accomplished artist and did multiple e-courses with various artists. I also officially came out to the closet declaring myself finally as an artist in 2021.

In 2023, I got my first showing, got published in a local newspaper, received two awards for excellence in art competing with 600 other artists nationwide, participated successfully in my first Pend Oreille Art Council (POAC) Downtown Artwalk, selected and shown at POAC gallery and have created a large body of work. But mostly, I fully honored my heart’s desire to commit to an art practice and to paint and paint and paint some more. At present I am showing my work at The Peppered Mercantile in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Its reach is so far greater than the buildings in its background. This painting was just selected to be included The Circle Foundation international magazine being released 12/23-12/27/23.

Artist Statement I am an abstract mixed media artist with my life in nature as my muse. I am heavily influenced by the Pacific Northwest its bodies of water, mountains, topography, skies, and the extreme differences in its ecosystems ranging from rain forests to deserts. My experiences in these elements are the basis of my work, my inner voice. While I do not start a painting with a preplanned design, I paint from very deep feelings about a place in time, an experience I have had in nature within my being.

My work is multi layered and I continue working on a piece until the painting begins to speak to me and then and only then, the painting and I are collectively within a rhythm of creation together. I love making bold marks, making my paintings almost sculptural, using both brushes and found tools to mark make. I work on canvas, wood, and high-quality paper. I typically work in series with each piece in the series influencing the other. I love color, its energy whether it is serene or vibrantly active and continue to explore what impact color can bring to my work. I find great joy in the completion of a work that encourages the viewer to enter their own world of wonder and appreciation and to witness the light in their eyes when this does happen.

Having relocated from Korea seven years ago, she is currently based in Seattle, specializing in Korean painting. With a major in this traditional art form, she passionately expands her artistic horizons by incorporating Korean painting materials into her work.

Artist Statement Lately, I've immersed myself in creating traditional Korean folk paintings, finding solace in depicting flowers, birds, and small animals—a source of comfort for my weary soul. With the dawn of the new year, I've made the decision to join an exhibition, aiming to convey the message of hope inherent in these timeless expressions of traditional Korean folk art.

Marcus Shriver (he/him) is a Chicanx visual artist utilizing 80’s and 90’s technology to interpret current events blending the past and the contemporary.

In the past two years Marcus has had his work exhibited in the Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery and Gallery B612 in Seattle, Sarah Spurgeon Gallery in Ellensburg, Washington, as well as Black Box Gallery located in Portland. Marcus's visual analysis on local history and location in relation to current politics and culture creates work that is vibrant and poignant.

Taken on 35mm film at Salvation Mountain, located in Slab City, this piece places the viewer in a uniquely isolating and loving moment.

Artist Statement My work focuses on history, place, culture, and displacement. My experiences with displacement as an adoptee gleam throughout my work through themes of lost history and finding culture. In these pieces, shot of 35mm film and focused around the theme “New Beginnings”, I am exploring the experience of running away to salvation.

Martha Shade is a mixed-media fiber artist in Seattle. Shade studied printmaking at the University of Arizona and ceramics at Louisiana State University. After a move to the Pacific Northwest, her early art career found her showcasing ceramic and paper-pulp sculptures at MIA Gallery, Bellevue Art Museum, Bumbershoot, and more. Shade is represented by ArtXcontemporary Gallery in Seattle. In their 2015 “Mythos” exhibition, Shade’s work was pictured in the Seattle Times and highlighted by Michael Upchurch as “gentle, eccentric and exquisitely crafted."

Recently she's had a piece purchased for the City of Seattle Portable Works Collection, had work included in two international juried fiber shows, and participated in the Supperfield Museum of Contemporary Art's national juried 'Big Ass Annual Fiber Show' located inside the MOM Museum in Seattle. Shade also had a piece featured in the Surface Design Association's 2021 International Exhibition in Print, "From Confrontation to Catharsis."

She is currently represented by ArtXcontemporary Gallery.

Martha Shade

Quilt Sphinx blends my paper sculptural work with my admiration for the gloriously powerful and colorful quilts that are made intuitively without a set pattern, each with their own individual essence. Hand-cut rice paper shapes stand in for fabric scraps, while glue replaces the stitches. Although this piece is visually related to much of my other artwork - mostly embroidery - that depicts classical mythological characters and stories set in a contemporary context, Quilt Sphinx stands alone as a joyful expression of form and design.

Artist Statement By capturing absurd daily moments and blurring the line between memory and experience, the artist immerses us in a world of extravagant detail and exuberant poses. His work radiates debauchery and decadence, welcoming viewers in the mix: into a realm where wild imagination reigns. He wants the viewer to become part of the art as an added component in a way; art should be entertaining and fun, to be able to feel and interact with the work is very important. Constantly applying thick, tactile textures and unconventional colors, he breathes life into the subjccts, infusing cach portrait with an electrifying vitality-inviting the audience to feel the rhythm and intensity of the festivities. By incorporating elements of mixed media, while predominantly relying on oil, he skillfully enhances the visual experience, offering a rich tapestry of emotions and narratives within cach composition and masterfully capturing the essence of chaos, dynamism and vivacious creation. The picces are always inviting you to revel in their tumultuous presence.

Randall Vemer has been a professional violinist/violist for 20 years; playing in orchestras around the world. He was Principal Viola of The Oregon Symphony for 20 years playing with the greatest soloists of our time.

He transitioned from Classical Music to Classical Painting; culminating in the multimedia project MusArt exhibited in Portland, Seattle, Napa, and Aspen. It is an exhibition of 40 oil paintings of musicians around the world combining live music, Haiku poetry, film with original music by Grammy winning composer, and a published book. The Art film has won documentary film festival awards in London, Paris, Rome, St. Petersburg, Tokyo, Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles among others.

As the world collapses, a mother enshrines hope with a new birth. Such is the celebration of our most recent Christmas, and all subsequent. May new beginnings in child always be a celebration.

Our world in turmoil, a young boy envisions peace.

He can gaze upward to see birds in flight, or the same in his imagination. May his thoughts materialize.

Artist Statement Making the transition from classical music to classical painting was not such a big conceptual leap for me. Both art forms demand years of serious training and analysis. After doing Alla-Prima painting (direct painting) I became interested in the classical method of constructing a painting in layers. After the design stage of several drawings, an ‘under-painting’ in monochromatic tones is created; over which layers of color glazes and impasto in the lights are added. This way I’m able to create the desired luminosity and rich effects that hopefully result.

Bringing the Old Master approach to contemporary subjects I find interesting.

Oil A totem carver begins with a rough hewn log, carves patiently, and finally paints. He erects to honor the NW tradition of the Thunderbird; a supernatural being of power and strength.

Kamilla White is a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest. She studied painting and ceramics at Washington State University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Kamilla has lived in Seattle since 1994, and shows her work regularly at A/NT Gallery in Seattle Center. When she's not painting or sculpting, Kamilla enjoys skiing, hiking, cycling, and belly dancing.

Big Shoes To Fill image 8" x 8", framed 9.5" x 9.5" 2 lb Acrylic on reclaimed board A Northern Chickadee has hatched a clutch of eggs in a rather unusual place - a saddle shoe, one of a presumably abandoned pair.

Since Chickadees will happily nest in birdhouses and nest boxes placed by humans, it's not at all out of character for them to use human-made artifacts. One wonders, though, what happened to the owner of the shoes - did some environmental catastrophe finally do all the humans in? And if so, will nature itself enjoy a new beginning, unhindered by human greed and arrogance?

Artist Statement I started using crow and raven imagery in my work around 2001, inspired by the local avian tricksters here in Seattle. Their quirkiness and humor appeal to many of us humans. I’ve branched out a bit since, painting other kinds of birds, some fish and even humans; but I remain forever grateful to my black-plumed muses for getting me started down this weird yet wonderful path.

My paintings for this show illustrate various kinds of beginnings (early childhood, starting a family, finding a new home), and include some potential challenges, such as non-traditional environments and weird family issues, which can complicate new beginnings. Also, an additional layer of meaning: each of these pieces is painted on the back of an outmoded print sample, legacies from my former life working for a local fine art publisher.

Moving to a new place can be exciting, but how to choose where? Will he follow his friends who are already in the air, or venture off on his own?

Something I Wait For 13 x 16 Acrylic on reclaimed board Inspired by the Brothers Grimm tale, The Seven Ravens. A baby girl sleeps in her cradle, quietly unaware that her brothers, transformed into ravens by their father's curse, are perched all around her, watching.

Though the girl in the story is raised to young adulthood without the knowledge that she ever had brothers, I like to imagine the boys looking in on their sister from time to time as she grows. Perhaps they regret their inability to offer her the support and protection they would have had they been allowed to remain human. Little do they know that she will one day save them all, and bring them safely home.

Well versed in bronze, glass casting, resins, utilizes canvas, water, rocks, acrylics, enamels, oil, inks, dry pigments, acids, bronze and other metal coatings, pewter and a variety of other materials. Studied Life Sculpture and Bronze Casting several years at Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle. Artist Statement Pursuit of Quality is the primary theme of many pieces. Not subjective quality.

When subject and object find unity, that is where the magic happens. That is also when we are our best selves. Accomplishing this while making art is of the utmost importance. I write songs in many styles, so I simply call it Americana. I sing and play acoustic guitar. Ninety percent of my performances happen in Puget Sound art galleries, where I use my music to accompany and interpret the exhibit I’m playing in association with.

I formed a teen band in 1966 called The Velvet Illusions. Our records are collected worldwide. In the 70s, I played country rock music throughout Puget Sound. Since the 80s, I have been specializing in the Americana sound, writing in the folk, jazz, blues, and Great American Songbook styles.

My music is cross-generational, inclusive, family-friendly, and heartfelt. My mission is to spread joy and positivity via my performance – every single time I unpack my guitar.

On the night of the New Beginnings Art Exhibition Artist Reception, Seattle local Folk and Blues Singer/Songwriter, Randy Bowles delivered a set of lovely songs: all originals. Overall, it was a marvelous night indeed. Randy brought heartfelt authenticity to the gallery with his original and wholesome repertoire for all to enjoy.

My job in life is to catch songs, write them down, and share them with you. I specialize in relating the story of human achievement. When we live mindfully, apply ourselves, and sprinkle in a generous portion of love, we can achieve so many things -- for ourselves, those we share the Earth with, and the Earth itself.
