AU FIL DE L’EAU

It is through the clay, the fusion of bronze and the handling of plaster that chanelled I melt into the elements of earth and water, the origins out of which creation begins and organic forms find root. Through the process of malaxing and modulating volumes into the world, the quest is to be caught and in tune with the movement and flow of life around me.

Birth, growth, the sap rising in a tree, a sprouting plant, the current running

through the river, the cycle of the moon and the effects it has on the tides, the eons of stars in the expanse of the sky lead me on a search to bring the outside world into the internal dimension of man.

Nature becomes a metaphor, the macrocosm, of man’s microcosmic interior world, to be merged together as a way to apprehend man’s passage on the ‘Sphere’ that he inhabits.

The outside is integrated, the inside is extracted, the two are assimilated, pulled together, unified and the sculptures are the membrane between the two.

près ‘Out of the Blue’, voici Manuela plongée aujourd’hui dans son contraire où, par le courant de la vie, elle ‘rentre’ au fil de l’eau. L’eau sculpte notre paysage.

La surface de la planète est façonnée par ce liquide. Elle conduit Manuela progressivement, au fur et à mesure, vers la découverte perpétuelle, toujours en évolution. L’eau porte en elle l’ambivalence universelle : abri fœtal, premier élément rencontré où la vie se déploie, elle est l’intime que l’on connaît depuis avant la naissance.

Mais l’heure arrive d’en sortir, pour vivre, de se laisser couler de source. Commence alors la chute, la cavalcade du fleuve qui est constamment en mouvement et caracole toujours.

Marées, tourbillons, cascades, méandres, ruissellements souterrains : la terre et les cieux sont convoqués pour des noces cosmiques et tumultueuses. Portée par l’eau, ballottée par un puissant courant qui dévale toutes les pentes et serpente en minces filets pour s’élargir en une mer aux rives éloignées, elle vogue, au fil de l’eau.

Ne pas résister pour éviter la blessure, mais ne pas se laisser emporter comme un bouchon. De temps en temps aller même jusqu’à la dérive pour mieux arriver ou aller à contre-courant quand les forces le permettent. Lâcher et s’ouvrir à ce flux qui porte et dévale les espaces, au hasard. Nuit et jour, glisser, sans cesser d’être présente, en force ou en douceur.

C’est dans la matière même de la terre humide et dans la coulée des métaux, minéraux de la terre qui se transforment en bronze, que Manuela trouve à fixer cette expression, ces impressions d’eau et ces courants de forces qui l’animent.

fter Manuela’s last exhibition ‘Out of the Blue’, she now finds herself plunging into the contrary whereby she enters into the water’s flow; the current of life.

Water sculpts our landscape. The planet’s surface is carved by this element which progressively drives her, measure for measure towards a perpetual discovering, always in evolution. Water carries a universal ambivalence: fœtal shelter, first liquid encountered where life unfolds, it is the most intimate, that we know from before birth. Then comes the time to descend, to thrive, to let oneself flow like a source. Begins the fall, cascade, cavalcade of a river constantly in movement and always gushing forwards.

Tides, waterfalls, meanders, underground currents: the earth and the skies are united in a cosmic union, where their forces can sometimes unleash.

Carried by water, buffeted by a powerfull current that runs down slopes and serpentines in fine threads to expand in a sea with distant shores, she goes with the flow of life. Without resisting to avoid injury but not getting carried away like a bobbing cork.

From time to time drifting so as to find a smoother passing or to go against the current when forces allow.

To release, open up and chance the flux that carries and passes through so many different furrows at random.

Night and day, sliding without ceasing being forever present, in strength and in gentleness.

It is in the material of wet clay and in the casting of metal, mineral from the earth transformed into bronze, that she has found to fix the expression of all these impressions of water and current forces that animate her.

Wax, clay and plaster are the three materials I use.

Otherwise, when you sculpt a work in bronze, you make an edition of eight to twelve pieces. However, with time, I realized that collectors also like original pieces, and this led me to make pieces out of clay. Besides I love this material.

anuela Zervudachi naît à Londres en 1963, d’une mère irlandaise et d’un père grec. Ce détonnant mélange a modelé cette artiste têtue qui oscille entre le sud et le nord, entre le froid et le chaud que lui

soufflent ses origines. Ses œuvres sont la résultante de cette mixité.

Elle décide de s’installer dans les années 80 à New York pour suivre l’enseignement de la Parsons School of New York, où elle apprend essentiellement le travail du métal.

Après les États-Unis, Manuela Zervudachi s’installe en Toscane en 1988, à Pietrasanta, véritable Mecque de la sculpture, où se trouvent une douzaine des meilleures fonderies de bronze au monde. Dans ce lieu mythique, Manuela Zervudachi a suivi l‘enseignement de son maître, le sculpteur Fiore de Henriquez, qui lui a appris durant trois ans à découvrir la dimension alchimique du travail à la cire perdue et le bronze. À travers ces évocations fugaces mais tellement sagaces qu’elles en deviennent pérennes, son travail dévoile sa fascination pour l’état de l’homme dans son environnement.

Elle a travaillé successivement autour des thèmes du tarot, du symbolisme du corps, du temps et de la graine.

Installée depuis 1991 avec sa famille à Paris, l’artiste expose régulièrement à Londres, à Paris et en Suisse. Parallèlement, Manuela Zervudachi collabore souvent avec des architectes d’intérieur ou des collectionneurs pour réaliser des pièces sur commande.

anuela Zervudachi was born in London in 1963. Since her childhood Manuela chose sculpture as the medium to express herself. She went to New York and followed her training at Parsons School of Design.

In 1988 Manuela settled in Tuscany, near Pietrasanta, a true Mecca for sculptors. Here, Manuela studied under her mentor, the sculptor Fiore de Henriquez, who revealed to her the alchemical processes of the bronze and lost wax techniques. Her work reveals a fascination for man’s state, his internal evolution, within his environment.

She has worked successively on the themes of nature elements, symbolism in the human body, Time, the Seed and Alchemy. Settled with her family in Paris since 1991, Manuela has exhibited regularly in London, Paris, Belgium and Switzerland. As well as this, Manuela also collaborates regularly with interior architects and various collectors who commission particular works all over the world.

AU FIL DE L’EAU

It is through the clay, the fusion of bronze and the handling of plaster that chanelled I melt into the elements of earth and water, the origins out of which creation begins and organic forms find root. Through the process of malaxing and modulating volumes into the world, the quest is to be caught and in tune with the movement and flow of life around me.

through the river, the cycle of the moon and the effects it has on the tides, the eons of stars in the expanse of the sky lead me on a search to bring the outside world into the internal dimension of man.

Nature becomes a metaphor, the macrocosm, of man’s microcosmic interior world, to be merged together as a way to apprehend man’s passage on the ‘Sphere’ that he inhabits.

The outside is integrated, the inside is extracted, the two are assimilated, pulled together, unified and the sculptures are the membrane between the two.
