Fallecido en un trágico accidente de un avión DC-7 cuando se dirigía a repartir provisiones en Nicaragua, el célebre jugador puertorriqueño de béisbol quedó estampado en el corazón del mundo entero. Esta tierna obra musical narra sus comienzos en los Cangrejeros de Puerto Rico, hasta sus triunfos en los Pirates de Pittsburgh, la dura adaptación a la sociedad norteamericana y su racismo, y su gran admiración por Martin Luther King.
