When Layla Alden, 2, broke the bride’s favorite conch shell, Connie said there were “plenty more where that came from.” Drink Drama After smiling her way through the week, the bride finally lost it. She was in the salon getting her bridal up-do when someone handed her a drink. “The way she sipped from the straw was so snooty,” said a source who was walking by the window. “She was a complete nightmare during that entire glass of champagne.” The actress refused to comment about showing her true colors. But a source close to the bride told GAB! that Connie now refuses to drink from a straw.

Sunset ceremony, sunrise on love: An oceanside “I do!” with the picture-perfect backdrop.

Eternal Promise in Paradise! The Hair Connie asked Kaitlynd to style her hair. The older , who had worked with other famous brides like Kate and , was a bundle of nerves. “It felt like I was doing hair for the first time,” says Kaitlynd.

Connie Zimmer and Dan Hultgren finally tie the knot at a private seaside resort on Elbow Cay in the Bahamas.

C

onnie zimmer and her

man Dan Hultgren met on the set of the ABC drama Nie Auf Wiedersehn, and their love-at-first-sight relationship has been making headlines ever since. After such a highly publicized love life, the bride and groom wanted to keep their wedding simple. The March 30 sunset ceremony had an exclusive, star-studded guest list including Jeff and Rina Hultgren, Robbie Bethel, and Cindy Crawford. Connie planned and executed the week-long celebration, relying on the advice of her mother, celebrity chef LynnEllen King, and sisters — jewelry designer Kaitlynd Zimmer and Oscar-hopeful Marilyn Zimmer — as well as seasoned wedding planner and long-time family friend Katie Robinson.

Here Comes the Bride Connie wore a fitted, custommade Nicole Miller gown with an understated three-inch train, accented with a delicate lace

sash. Connie made the sash herself, using lace from her mother’s vintage Chanel wedding dress. A source close to the family told GAB! that LynnEllen’s gown was originally worth $15 million. But the MOB didn’t bat an eye when Connie asked to deconstruct the dress. “My daughter got a few hours of happiness out of that lace,” said LynnEllen, “and that’s worth so much more than $15 million.” Dan, who waffled between donning a tuxspeedo and a three-piece suit, split the difference and went semi-casual in a white linen shirt, khakis, and a one-of-a-kind belt handcrafted by Pete Johnston from Pete’s Pub. Both the bride and groom walked barefoot—Dan because he wanted to “squish the sand between his toes,” and Connie because she wanted to match her husband-to-be. The forward-thinking couple set a new trend, serving signature cocktails before their beachside ceremony. Guests enjoyed a

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her mother and media mogul father Mark Zimmer, and was attended by sisters Kaitlynd and Marilyn, sister-in-lawto-be philanthropist Bess Alden, and BFF Kristin Cavallari. The only hiccup in the idyllic ceremony occurred as the bridesmaids walked up the aisle. “We noticed our feet were sinking into the

sand during the procession,” remembers Kaitlynd, “but we often have trouble walking in snow and sand because of our tiny feet.” The sand didn’t stop the sure-footed bride, who was oblivious to everything except her groom. “I was on cloud nine! I felt like I was floating toward Dan,” said Connie. After they exchanged

vows and savored their first kiss as a married couple, Dan “She w and Connie put always kne et a fresh twist on she would g e a time-honored tradition. Zimmer was escorted down the aisle by her mother, LynnEllen, and her father, Mark. “It was my dream wedding,” said LynnEllen.

Something Blue

The bride bucked tradition by not incorporating anything blue into her ensemble. Instead, Connie asked her event planner to paint the beach house that served as a backdrop to the ceremony a brilliant, tropical hue. The house’s white trim coordinated with the sandy beach and the “surprisingly comfortable” seating.

GAB! EXCLUSIVE Little Layla Alden, 2, couldn't wait for the first dance to end to show off her moves.

Water lapped at the guests’ feet as they enjoyed their five-course meal.

Harbour’s Edge

The Reception After witnessing the ceremony, guests lingered on the beach, savoring the lovely sphere until the punch bowl was empty. A golf cart shuttled guests to the reception at Harbour’s Edge. The rustic decor echoed the beach, complete with driftwood palm fronds, shells, sandcastles, real sunbathers, and snorkels.

Dinner was an elaborate affair. Each of the five courses was paired with a different German beer, a nod to the couple’s hit show and an excuse to drink at least five beers. On the dance floor, two-year-old breakdancing sensation Layla Alden stole the spotlight and pop-and-locked for a full fifteen minutes before her 7:00 pm bedtime.

Though the newlyweds had decided against formal speeches, once the party was underway, the bridesmaids couldn’t restrain themselves. They gushed with love and adoration for the bride and groom until Connie signaled the DJ to cut the power to the microphone.

The ‘I Do’ Details THE PROPOSAL Dan got down

on one knee at a lighthouse on the coast of Salem, MA. A friend of the couple said the location was symbolic because they both want to live in a light-colored house.

THE FLOWERS The environmentally conscious bride decided against cut flowers. Instead, the bouquets and centerpieces were made from palm fronds and colorful leaves flown in from Fiji.

THE VENUE The ceremony took place on the edge of the harbor, and the reception was held in the Harbour’s Edge.

THE AISLE The sand was so hot

that Layla Alden tossed ice cubes instead of petals from her basket to spare Connie’s bare feet.

THE RING Interesting from every angle, Connie’s handcrafted ring features intertwining lilac leaves supporting a massive rock.

DANSTANCE REVOLUTION!

BEHIND THE SCENES DRAMA! Wedding Crasher Gladish

BUSTED! Award-winning author Margaret Gladish wasn’t invited to the exclusive wedding, but that didn’t stop her. “I flew to the Bahamas and “accidentally” bumped into the wedding party before the big day,” said Gladish. “I pretended not to know what was going on, and they totally fell for it! I got a verbal invite and didn’t even have to sneak into the ceremony.”

Schmucker and Creedon

Speed-Oh-No!

Archibald Ollennu, Andrew Nehlig, and Joshua Cole were devastated they couldn’t make the soirée.

Dan Hultgren’s luggage was lost on the way to the Bahamas. Hultgren was unfazed until he realized this included the wedding favors he’d bought for his male guests: a suitcase full of tuxspeedos. The suits were embroidered with the name of the guest and “BahaMan,” and they were custom made according to each man’s measurements to ensure a perfect fit. Dan is suing Bahamasair for $6 million for the loss of the irreplaceable swimwear. Sean Creedon and Clayton Schmucker plan to testify, feeling they suffered personal injury without their speedos.

STUF

Uh-oh! Tom and Amanda Valanzola realize the mistake – a little too late.

Ex-scavenge-ganza Disaster! A lighthearted survival challenge turned serious when participants received the wrong maps.

D

an and connie had planned an

adventure game for some wedding week entertainment. Starting at the tip of the island, guests had 24 hours to navigate to the opposite end of the island using nothing but a map. Connie made the maps herself, carefully labeling places to find necessities like food, water, and flint. But while she and Dan were waiting at the finish line, the bride realized she had given people the wrong maps. “I made like nine different maps, so it was an easy mistake,” said Connie. “Instead of the Essentials Map, I gave people the Liquor, Souvenir, and Other Cute Shops Map.”

22 |

APRIL 14, 2012

“Eight hours had already passed, and in that time people could have wandered anywhere,” remembered Dan. “All we could do was wait.” Each guest had a different method of survival, and most made it back safely. Thane Cole was the only one who successfully hitchhiked. He crossed the finish line first, exclaiming, “I always thought I had nice ankles!” Charlie Odhner stole souvenirs from Ebb Tide Shop to use for bartering, only to find no one actually wants to buy that crap. He traded the clothes off of his back for a bike and arrived wearing a grass skirt and coconut bra.

Alex Rohtla intercepted a sea turtle on its migratory route. After the turtle got tired of towing him, Rohtla swam the rest of the way. Clayton Schmucker got stuck at the first liquor store, saying he was trying to empty enough bottles to build a raft. Clint Adderly and Sarah Knowles built a driftwood raft, but were detained by the Bahamian Coast Guard who were on the lookout for illegal immigrants. Even after hearing their American accents, officers took them into custody, saying, “Rosetta Stone has really changed the game. Plus, their English wasn’t all that great.” Jared Alden strung up a series of slacklines and tightroped his way across the island. “I thought we were playing Hot Lava,” he shrugged.

CONNIE ZIMMER

in mind for her bridesmaids’ dresses: giant clams. “We tried on so many dresses we stopped changing out of them,” recalls sister Marilyn Zimmer. “We just started layering one dress on top of another, trying on bigger and bigger sizes.” But even though they were up to size 22, when Connie’s sisters put on the hand-painted Zac Posen gowns, the bride knew she’d found the one. “The moment I saw them I was transported back to the time Dan and I first snorkeled Original clam together,” Connie said. “We came inspiration “It meant so much to me to feel like across these giant clams, looked at each other those clams were with us on our through our foggy masks, and we just knew wedding day. It felt like we were falling in love all over again,” said Zimmer. this was it.”

Marilyn Zimmer is brilliant as a debutante with a dilemma. The best picture front-runner has arrived. A complex plot-line draws the audience into the story where they are held captivate by a 24 |

script full of believable dialogue. Creative cinematography uses intriguing angles and vivid detail to bring complex yet relatable characters to life. The set includes views of beaches and cityscapes—both of which look just like the real thing. The engaging tale focuses on Jackson's struggles with dead-end romances, elusive suitors, volatile relationships, harmless

flirtation, confusing love triangles, and Jackson's struggle to free herself from the shackles of her past.
