Created vocabulary: Linked Architecture: meaning to link all spaces in such a way that creates a connection between buildings, most likely forming a continuous and common path through areas. It aims to fill spaces in such a way that includes small, non complex sensory changes or additions to create active use, shaping a better chance for the success of buildings.

Active use: Understanding the way a space is used 24/7 by evaluating the full extent through times, people, deep programming, circulation, area analysis, safety measurements, realistic and relatable standards for use of space, planning for possible interactions and sticking to a general time basis of 18:00pm-06:00am.

Deep Programming: This is a mapping method that ensures a detailed analysis of a space with varied input from multiple locals in the area for active spaces.

Relatable design: This refers to a clear and realistic response to the environment by having the Architect understand or relate to our countries and citizens behavior's on an experience based level, even if a flawed aspect i.e. jaywalking is an obvious occurrence and bicycle paths could have been thought through better.

This analysis, of many others, demonstrates the effect that ignorance in terms of the homeless has on public spaces. The playground and the bird sanctuary once flourished and were ritually active, but the lack of creating spaces for the less fortunate has taken away the possibility of shaping a better community and allowed for people to neglect or even give up on the space.

South Africa needs to experience some sort of rebirth or metamorphosis which I architecturally interpret as a complete energy change in certain spaces. This means it is also possible to design buildings for more than just one purpose and extend the uses of the building for a variety of every citizens needs. This is demonstrated in the Cocoon Pods

Abantutopia/2020 This project from First year, Abantutopia, aims to reflect the reality of Braamfontein and how certain societal aspects need to be tackled creatively in order to re-ignite areas by finding common ground and a community between people. With all users in mind, designing can reach a new potential by evaluating the deeper active use. (meaning a space that is Within an allocated alley, my design consists of Market stalls by day and hanging homes by night. This design aims to tackle many problems, but only within its specific vicinity and would be well implemented in the bigger picture.

Focusing on all potential aspects of the site, I decided to activate the alley as a movement trail through multifunctional and adaptive pods attached to the wall. These can function as a sleeping den for the market owners after a specific time. Markets are also more personal and engaging than a normal shop, and I liked this because it is a stark and an interesting contrast to that of the city in Braamfontein.

A project of mine in 2020 captured my interest in creating multi-purposeful spaces in wasted ones, as well as incorporating humane living conditions for the homeless for a more controlled security method and an uplifting community.

The most important elements I found is that certain concepts weren’t always possible due to codes and regulations, so some elements in my designs are proposals for unseen but also affirmatively debatable Linking Architecture ideas.

Road widening lengthens commutes, increases household costs, worsens pollution, harms the economy, and, let us not forget, kills and injures millions of people globally every year. Transportation departments and politicians had the evidence decades ago and many continue to ignore it to this day. We need to make them understand.

The solution to congestion is compact development and multimodal (and sometimes pedestrian-only) streets.

Wherever cars come into contact with well-designed human-scaled cities there’ll always be congestion; cars are extremely inefficient uses of space, after all, and are incompatible with great places.

The analysis of this part of the project was really eye opening as Anna Heringer goes into much depth about how simple on can create a sustainable building as long as you connect with the space properly. Approach and Reflection

Manifesto Revisited /P05 The Manifesto Project had a lot to offer and something I noticed very early in the year was that it was going to develop and even change in many ways - it did. My original approach to the project, and to some degree the beginning of the year, was more conceptual.

I was concentrated more on my own work, which I feel limited that creativity amongst reality that precedent studies have now opened my eyes to.

At the beginning of the year I saw it all going one way, but at the end, specifically evaluating my design progress through the Third Project/ Matrix redesigned, I noticed methods and connection's that could have actually developed sooner and further.

Revisiting this project also encouraged me to go over all of my work, some before this year, and through that I found connections and ideas that remained and ones that didn’t. A lifecycle of my mind.

Keeping strategy in mind, the Construction projects allowed for successful check-ins and restrategies - not a contradiction, as restrategising became a really successful strategy and now a tool. Specifically crits allowed for much real time reflection in terms of reaching the highest potential of ones building, which actually meant diving deeper into the manifesto as it now moved into applying project 01 into the creation of the design.

Alongside this, i also noticed I kept a lot of my beautiful ideas in mind and not on paper. Realising that may have been one of the most powerful tools yet and provided as a great aid in crits and with general engagement for on site and real time analysis.

As the world progresses, so does design and as design progresses, so does the world. With this I mean that sensitivity can change real communication by holding on to dreams that are in a sense too far to reach now and should be re-evaluated.

How? Something I noticed is that normalising things has quietly shifted our perspectives which has also silenced the backbone of our country. There should be a deeper and strong local analysis done which meets mid ground through diverse engagement. Completely and often debatable or uncertain, finding mid-ground can feel impossible, but keeping our heritage in mind will allow for growth in a joint direction... we are the only country in the world to have had agreed to ending the nuclear weapons programme (1989), which to me says more than anything these days. South Africans are special.

And in terms of practice? I learnt a lot. About spatial awareness, human engagement, existing projects, potential projects, communities and how they link, how interesting humans are, what they like, what they dont like, how sensory elements will change a story, how water effects everything and so much more.

To conclude, I believe that with acceptance of change comes new stories as well as the possibility to stabilize and safely balance all aspects of sustainability.
