VISUAL STUDY EXCERCISE Project Brief: In the 3D Form Exploration project, students delve into practical applications of shape and form, focusing on creating three-dimensional representations with an emphasis on understanding z-values. Meanwhile, the Observation Skills in Art project aims to elevate students' understanding of art by honing their observation skills and encouraging analysis, informed opinions, and effective communication through presentation. Both projects offer valuable opportunities for skill development and creative expression.

My Design Approach :

In the 3D Form Exploration project, I applied architectural principles to create dynamic three-dimensional representations, emphasizing z-values for depth. Meanwhile, in the Observation Skills in Art project, I interpreted artworks through an architectural lens, discerning form, color, and composition to develop nuanced analyses and informed opinions.

DECODING OF AN OBJECT Project Brief: Embark on a creative journey decoding the bicycle in this exercise, fostering observational and sketching skills. Students sketch the cycle form initially with references, progressing to memory-based replication. Selecting specific cycle parts, they explore the translation of 3D objects into diverse 2D patterns, cultivating creative thinking. The outcomes include improved observational skills, heightened creativity, and an understanding of transforming 3D objects into patterns. Students express individuality through the selection and interpretation of cycle parts, culminating in diverse pattern compositions and completed models, showcasing their imaginative designs. This exercise promotes skill development and personal expression within a structured creative process.

My Design Approach :

In my interpretation of the bicycle exercise, I focused on the cycle chain as a pattern, repeating it twelve times while experimenting with varying heights in the 3D representation. Through this approach, I explored the intersection of pattern repetition and spatial dimensionality, showcasing my creativity within the structured exercise framework.

ANALYSIS OF FORM Project Brief: This exercise empowers students to choose and meticulously sketch any object, fostering observational and sketching skills. Through the exploration of diverse sketching mediums, students gain a nuanced understanding of the object's form, appreciating how each medium influences representation. ALPHABET PHOTOGRAPHY Project Brief: Embark on the "Art of Seeing" exercise, focusing on honing observation skills and cultivating awareness of surroundings. Encourage intuitive pattern recognition by connecting unrelated objects, fostering keen observation and heightened awareness. Students photograph objects resembling alphabetic letters, creating a unique collage on an A3 sheet. Utilizing only self-taken photographs ensures authenticity, and capturing diverse perspectives of each letter enriches the exercise. The outcomes include improved observation skills, heightened awareness, and the development of intuitive pattern recognition through a creative collage representing the entire alphabet with diverse and unique images. This exercise offers a holistic approach to enhancing visual perception and creativity.

CHUCK CLOSE Project Brief: Delve into the world of texture, tone, and value in visual art, exploring modular construction and patterns inspired by nature. This exercise aims to refine hand drawing skills, emphasizing repetition, rhythm, and balance. Through ink practice, students create varied patterns in 5cm x 5cm squares, mastering different values. Additionally, they develop 6-step value scales for pen designs, honing techniques like hatching. The outcomes include proficiency in manipulating visual elements, constructing compelling images, and creating diverse patterns. Students emerge with improved hand drawing abilities, showcasing their application of design principles in skillfully crafted and visually engaging pattern creations.

My Design Approach :

In my exploration of texture, tone, and value, I drew inspiration from the architectural works of Ar. Sanjay Puri. Integrating his innovative designs, I applied modular construction and patterns inspired by nature. Through ink practice and value scale development, I honed my hand drawing skills, echoing Puri's emphasis on repetition and balance. The outcome is a collection of visually engaging patterns reflecting his architectural influence.

ALTERED BOOK POETRY Project Brief: Embark on a creative journey merging language and visual elements, exploring the beauty of communication through a found poem exercise. This activity aims to enrich vocabulary and enhance sentence-forming skills while creating a visual representation of verbal ideas. Select powerful words related to seabirds and conservation, refining the list for a cohesive poem. Focus on conveying a meaningful tone and ensure coherence in the final composition. The outcomes include an expanded vocabulary, improved writing skills, and the creation of a visually compelling found poem highlighting the beauty and significance of seabirds and conservation. Students also showcase enhanced creativity through thoughtful decoration, reinforcing the poem's theme.

CRITICAL STUDY OF SALOON CAR FRONTAGE Project Brief: In my project, I focused on translating shape and form concepts into a three-dimensional representation, emphasizing the understanding of zvalues. Through a perspective photoshoot, I captured depth and dimensionality, arranging images on a sheet for visual impact. This exercise enhanced my skills in perspective photography and deepened my understanding of applying shape and form in a 3D context to create visually engaging compositions.

My Design Approach :

In my project on the Hyundai Verna sedan, I critically analyzed its frontage design. The radiator appeared complex, obscuring the logo, and the freestanding number plate was visually distracting. I suggested relocating the indicators to improve visibility. Through this analysis, I enhanced my understanding of automotive design principles and honed my ability to assess and critique design elements for practical and aesthetic considerations.

LINE PHOTOGRAPHY Project Brief: Embark on a visual journey exploring lines through photography, encouraging students to capture objects embodying Horizontal, Curved, and Diagonal orientations. This exercise sharpens observational skills, guiding students to compose A3 sheets with creatively arranged line-oriented photographs. Culminating in an A2-sized presentation board, students showcase improved photography skills, a deeper understanding of composition, and the ability to present a visually engaging narrative. This exploration cultivates creative and aesthetic sensibilities, emphasizing the artistry inherent in the diverse orientations of lines captured through the lens.

My Design Approach :

In my exploration of lines through photography, I captured images from my house and a nearby mall. Through keen observation, I depicted Horizontal, Curved, and Diagonal orientations, emphasizing diverse perspectives. Creatively arranging these photographs on A3 sheets, I crafted a visually engaging narrative. My work demonstrates improved photography skills and a deeper understanding of composition, showcasing the artistry of line orientations.

SCIOGRAPHY PHOTOGRAPHY Project Brief: Produce a Sciography Photography Series capturing a planter, object, copper object, tree, and house, highlighting their interaction with light and shadow. Each photo should depict the surface under light, surface under shade, and shadow falling on the surface under light. Optimal shooting time: early morning or late afternoon. Deliverables include five showcasing the interplay of light and shadow on diverse surfaces.

My Design Approach :

In my sciography photography series, I meticulously captured the planter, object, copper object, tree, and house, emphasizing their dynamic interaction with light and shadow. Each image thoughtfully portrays the surface under light, surface under shade, and the captivating play of shadow falling on surfaces under light. Shot during the optimal early morning or late afternoon, the series showcases five captivating images revealing the beauty of light and shadow on diverse surfaces.

LINE & DOT COMPOSITION Project Brief: Embark on a visual exploration of forms, emphasizing pattern creation through the strategic use of lines and dots. This exercise aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of visual aesthetics, encouraging students to experiment with various arrangements, densities, and orientations. Students exercise creative freedom in designing patterns, fostering individual expression and honing skills in pattern creation. The outcomes include an enhanced understanding of visual forms, the development of creative skills, and an exploration of the dynamic interplay between lines and dots in artistic compositions.

FOUR SQUARES, FOUR TRIANGLES & CIRCLE COMPOSITION Project Brief: Embark on a graphic design exploration, focusing on proportion understanding through a limited vocabulary of shapes. Students creatively convey meanings using four black squares for words like order, increase, bold, etc., and four black triangles for expressions like harmony, chaos, etc. Circles depict meanings related to containment, closure, and more. Through sketches, students explore possibilities before selecting the final versions, fostering improved understanding of proportion, skill development in conveying diverse meanings, and enhanced visual literacy through the creative use of 2D shapes.

My Design Approach :

In my project, I meticulously selected shapes to depict meanings, using four black squares, triangles, and circles. Through sketches, I explored various possibilities before finalizing the designs. This process enhanced my understanding of proportion and developed my skills in conveying diverse meanings through shapes. Additionally, it improved my visual literacy by creatively utilizing 2D shapes to express concepts effectively.

NAVARASA – A COLOUR STUDY EMOTIONS OF COLOURS Project Brief: Delve into color psychology, exploring how colors convey emotions in this exercise. Students gain a nuanced understanding of color's emotional impact by creating compositions representing nine different emotions. From SHRIRANGA to SHANTA, they strategically utilize colors to convey each emotion's essence. Through experimentation with color combinations and tones, students enhance their skills in eliciting specific emotional responses. The outcomes include an enhanced understanding of color-emotion communication, skill development in color selection, and creative expression through personalized compositions representing a diverse emotional spectrum.

My Design Approach :

In my project, I meticulously explored how colors evoke emotions by depicting Pikachu from the Pokémon cartoon. I strategically utilized colors to convey each emotion, from SHRIRANGA to SHANTA, capturing Pikachu's varying moods. Experimenting with color combinations and tones enhanced my ability to elicit specific emotional responses. This exercise deepened my understanding of color-emotion communication and allowed for creative expression through personalized compositions.

METAMORPHOSIS Project Brief: Delve into the dynamic relationship between shape and form through visual metamorphosis. This exercise explores the cognitive and morphological processes inherent in design concepts, allowing designers to transform shapes and conceal one meaning behind another. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of this technique, drawing inspiration from its historical roots proposed by Henri Foçillon. The outcomes include enhanced comprehension of cognitive processes in design, skill development in applying form analogies, and the exploration of visual metamorphosis, empowering designers to convey layered meanings through shape-shifting.

In my project, I creatively explored visual metamorphosis by depicting a hazelnut transforming into a housefly. Through this transformation, I aimed to conceal one meaning behind another, capturing the essence of shapeshifting. Drawing inspiration from its historical roots proposed by Henri Foçillon, I delved into the cognitive and morphological processes inherent in design concepts. This exercise deepened my understanding of conveying layered meanings through visual transformation.

9- SQUARE MATRIX

Project Brief: The 9 Squares Project, conceived by John Hejduk in 1954, is a pedagogical tool in architecture education. It involves designing nine architectonic compositions exploring spatial relations and complexity. Students construct models based on a matrix provided by faculty, reflecting on design decisions through words and diagrams. The project fosters understanding of architectural elements and conscious decision-making. Evaluation includes ongoing reflection, formal assessment, and defense of work.

My Design Approach :

In my exploration of the 9 Squares Project, I chose to work with four squares and a square tiled into a diamond shape as my base. I then proceeded to extrude these shapes to delve into spatial relations and complexity. Through this process, I aimed to demonstrate a thoughtful application of architectural elements and showcase my creative approach to design within the project's parameters.
