The highly anticipated global concert tour of The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses—Master Quest descends on the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and will delight fans with a truly unique experience. The legend comes alive in this exhilarating multimedia concert experience, presenting over 29 years of music from The Legend of Zelda franchise, with a cinematic video presentation and music performed live by a chorus and the full orchestra. Audiences can expect new additions from “A Link Between Worlds,” the most recently released Zelda game.

Miguel Harth-Bedoya conducts Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien, a work inspired by a trip to Rome. Plus, two guest artists will be prominently featured on the program. Pianist Stephen Hough performs Rachmaninoff’s youthful and romantic Piano Concerto No. 1, and visiting composer Mason Bates returns for a performance of his Anthology of Fantastic Zoology, a colorful work Bates describes as “teeming with strange creatures and wild sonic effects.”
Australian conductor Nicholas Carter leads the orchestra in a concert showcasing music from England. Elgar’s Enigma Variations, 14 vivid and charming sketches of his friends and acquaintances, forms the centerpiece of this concert. Thomas Adès' Three Studies from Couperin provides beautifully orchestrated settings for three works by composer François Couperin. And Britten’s song cycle, Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, will showcase the talents of tenor Paul Appleby and the FWSO’s own principal horn, Molly Norcross.

Tchaikovsky described his final symphony as “the best thing I ever composed or shall compose.” Known as the “Pathétique” for its brooding, melancholy tone, Tchaikovsky poured his whole soul into this emotionally turbulent work which will be conducted by Austrian maestro David Danzmayr. Also on the program are Strauss’ delicate waltz medley Roses from the South and Piston’s colorful and humorous Suite from The Incredible Flutist.

FWSO Artistic Partner Vadym Kholodenko performs this captivating concerto. Then be transported to the mystical world of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7, a marvelous work with many contrasts, containing some of the sunniest and the darkest elements of the composer’s music.
German conductor Christoph König leads the orchestra in Sibelius’ enigmatic Symphony No. 7 and Brahms’ monumental Symphony No. 1, which is full of melting lyricism and soaring expressiveness. Plus, pianist Inon Barnatan performs Bartók’s greatly lyrical and touchingly naturalistic Piano Concerto No. 3.

Plus, Johannes Moser performs Dvořák's richly sonorous and deeply personal Cello Concerto, and composer Victor Agudelo will join the orchestra for the world premiere of his La Madre de Agua.
MOZART Violin Concerto No. 3, “Strassburg” SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 11, “The Year 1905” Violinist Karen Gomyo, who has been hailed by the Chicago Tribune as “a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity,” returns to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra with American conductor Andrew Grams for a performance of Mozart’s bright and lively “Strassburg” concerto. Also on the program is Shostakovich’s profoundly affecting Symphony No. 11, which recounts events during the start of the first Russian Revolution.

Richard Strauss is quoted as saying “I do not see why I should not compose a symphony about myself; I find myself quite as interesting as Napoleon or Alexander.” The 2016-17 season closes with his Ein Heldenleben, a grandiose autobiographical tone poem depicting the composer’s journey as “hero.”
