Who we are

The Fundación Salvador del Mundo (FUSALMO) is a non-profit Salesian organization, which promotes the development of abilities and an integral education in an innovative way for children and youths in socially vulnerable situations in El Salvador.

Dearest friends:

Allow me to present the annual report which summarizes the most relevant aspects of the actions taken on 2022, a year, for many, precursor of the apocalypse: consecutive economic crisis; war drums with nuclear touches; serious droughts which even have stuck the gondolas in Venice; violent fires with colossal proportions; storms and hurricanes that surpass the know categories; floods and dramatic landslides; melted glaciers forever: an unexpected pandemic, universal and burning…but that FUSALMO has interpreted not as a catastrophe but as an epiphany and has meant the resurfacing of new programs and projects combined with face to face and virtual modality, which has been allowing us to reach more kids, teenagers and youths, same as increasing the coverage and improving the quality of our programs.

Executing our programs and projects has always represented a challenge, but FUSALMO has always known how to position itself as an institution that boosts the programs focused in children and youths and has allowed us to accomplish projects

in all of the areas.

In 2022 FUSALMO has been running important institutional programs, but also has started projects with the national and international Cooperation who come to support said programs. It is important to mention that 2022 has represented a bigger diversification in the institutions that support us. I invite you all to review through the Annual Report before you, which has the evidence of the developed work.

I leave by sincerely thanking the unconditional support of the members of our benefactors, our founder members, Board of Directors, friendly companies, allies and mass media that are always supporting our work same as with all of the FUSALMO staff. Without their compromise and dedication, this could never have been possible.

During 22 years of Salesian work, FUSALMO has identified that the needs of our beneficiary population have been in constant change after the pandemic, and this is how we have strengthened our programs orientated in the educational reinforcement, based in the semi face to face model which with the volunteers capacitated online related with the National Curriculum of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology making use of our innovative platform: Transforma, we released opportunities of online education, providing courses in technology, arts, English and others adapted to the style and interested of children and teenagers in answer to the development of pro working competences.

We know how use the free time of the children and teenagers so that they can develop all of their abilities and for that, we have Sports Academies, Festive Oratory, Family afternoons, Technologic vocational clubs, spaces that promote at the same time arts and culture, same as participation and incidence in decision spaces.

In 2022, we celebrated with so much happiness the

release of the Scholarship Program “Padre Alfonso Evertsz SDB”, Salesian priest, FUSALMO’s founder, who motivates us to keep working for children and youths in El Salvador, mainly using our Juvenile Salesian Centers located in San Miguel, Santa Ana and Soyapango. We accomplished a great national impact by working with the international cooperation, organizations and companies allowing us to attend 26, 043 direct beneficiaries, we and our job were capable to reach 8 departments in the country and an average of 32 municipalities.

We keep betting to the innovation of the educational quality through the STEAM+ concept (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematic) that allows children and teenagers to develop the abilities of XXI Century in Creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problems resolution, getting involved directly in a situation to think, design, connect, build and direct their learnings through experimentation apart from the support of our educational platform Transforma.

This program will benefit, girls, boys, teenagers and youths that are actively participating in the FUSALMO programs, being in this occasion, Alicia Galeas from FUSALMO Soyapango, Ashley Jacobo from FUSALMO Santa Ana and Anthony Rivas from FUSALMO San Miguel, the beneficiaries in the partial scholarships that provide economic support for them to continue with their studies.

Since the beginnings, FUSALMO bets to the quality complementary education, where the beneficiaries improve their knowledge in a systematic way, preparing them to generate abilities and skills for their lives, also offers spaces where children and teenagers along with their families can practice sports and recreational activities freely, an effort that could not be done without the donations that different people

Defining an advance's following system that would renovate quarterly using Scrim Desk and the verification means updated.

It develops through Sport Academies, Sport and artistic clubs, Salesian oratory/ championships, Family days, among others.

Specialized attention which offers a sports formation to children and adolescents with a multi-disciplinary team to form high performance sportspeople, working aspects of technification, physical preparation and cognitive contents in a systematic way under the Salesian charm, this all through the payment of a modest monthly amount in a bio-safe environment, providing quality sport spaces in every discipline and innovating in the implementation of a pedagogical model that combines virtuality and face to face; which allows a better accompaniment towards each member.

It is a space that allowed us to offer to the population and groups of friends that live in the surrounding FUSALMO campus, an integral offer from a sportive nature, formative, recreative, spiritual, educative technology and artistic.

FUSALMO provides open doors in all of the campuses, totally free and its available for boys, girls, teenagers and youths who are in a vulnerable situation and want to integrate themselves to any recreational or sports activity, through the good use of their free time.

By supporting the communities and through articulated work, FUSALMO searches to have a positive impact in topics of community organization, management, prevention and youth leadership, among others.

During the scholar vacations period, FUSALMO offers recreation space, entertainment and healthy semi face to face coexistence destined to boys. Girls and teenagers in the ages of 5 up until 18 years old, who come from the surroundings neighborhoods and general population, where they’re provided an opportunity to have fun while learning, through different art workshops, music, crafts. Cooking, football, technology, English, among others.

Is a juvenile organization with the support of FUSALMO, where the youths from the municipality of Soyapango share experiences, analyze, discuss, reflect, learn, plan and promote the participation and youths protagonism though formative clubs of leadership, arts, culture among others, as an alternative of social transformation from the youth's perspective.

Is every youth who voluntarily shows interest to participate in the different programs and projects that are developed in benefit of children and teens, implemented and executed by the different areas that we have in FUSALMO, with the purpose to support, give knowledge and time to the different populations that get attended, but also the improvement of the different activities that are done with solidarity, altruism and empathy.

Educational Reinforcement and Online Education:

Based in the semi-face to face model, which, with the support of capable volunteers in an educative reinforcement program related with the National Curriculum of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology by making use of the innovator platform Transforma, they released online education opportunities: courses of technology, arts, English and others adapted to the interests shown in the youths as an answer to the development of skills for the work world.

Implements the technical formation for youths who do not have superior studies and are looking for jobs. Through these courses we improve abilities and skills in areas of Customer Service, Accounting Assistant, Commercial and Bank Teller, Inventory Management, English for call centers among others, with the ones we look to give accompaniment for employability.

Employability program for youths in social vulnerability without opportunities and who look to develop through technical formation.

With the objective to strengthen the abilities and skills of the youths, who implement the courses in technical formation in accounting assistant, Customer Service with tourism specialty, accounting administrative assistant, Sales Executive with tourism emphasis in administration and Customer Service in tourism with emphasis in English.

In this way, we develop the empowerment of the soft abilities that allow youths to integrate themselves in the working world and in their social environment.

Juvenile formation in English for Call Center, which allows to generate professional connections and to link up with the market. CRS same as FUSALMO work with youths in limited resources who live in vulnerable situations, who also are out of the educational system and with difficulties to obtain a job.

The section of Business Process Outsourcing and Call Center in El Salvador, has grown with the years, generating thousands of jobs and with the English as a useful tool so that the teenagers have access to these opportunities.

The joint actions are emphasized in giving attention through integral formation to youths who were looking for opportunities to develop and with the wish to boost their potential, mainly those who come from the most affected areas for the unsafety in the metropolitan area of San Salvador.

ALICIA GALEAS

y name is Alicia Galeas, I am 22 years old, I am currently studying International Relations in Universidad de El Salvador (El Salvador’s university) and I am also a volunteer in the Red de Juventudes FUSALMO (FUSALMO Youths Network).

I started volunteering when I was 17 years old, accompanying children so that they could feel trust and confidence and this is how I started and felt in love with the whole world that is volunteering, then, I met the Red de Juventudes FUSALMO (FUSALMO Youths Network) and they invited us to be part of the Escuela de Líderes (Leaders’ School).

I have been building my leadership abilities since 2018, where I cultivated all of my actual potentials and I started involving myself. This is the way how in 2019 I became the coordinator before a group of youths, while at the same time I started my superior studies in Architecture, but, as the time went by, I realized that, it was not my passion and with FUSALMO’s support I was able to discover my true calling.

I was chosen as the president of the Youths Network and with this experience, in 2021 I was part of the knowledge workshop which was executed by German cooperation that took place in Panamá as Youths Ambassador, where we discussed about the vulnerable situations that the youths face in the north triangle. This same year I participated in the International Forum of Berlín where we covered very important topics that include young people and their environment. After that, I continued my activities inside FUSALMO and I got a scholarship from “Programa Becas Padre Alfonso Evertsz” (Priest Alfonso Evertsz Scholarships Program) to continue with my superior studies.

y name is Ángel Axel Méndez, I am 16 years old and I was part of El Salvador’s Team, who participated in the First Global World Robotics Competence in 2022, celebrated in Switzerland.

I met FUSALMO because I am part of ¡Supérate! Program and I heard about TECNOFUSALMO which was about a virtual competence where I could test my technological abilities. Time after, they told me that I was going to be part of El Salvador’s team, during the competence program the experience was amazing and at the same time, being part of this team, allowed me to meet different people from different nationalities who share the same vision: to try to improve the world through technology.

With team work we did a great job; we all were grateful with FUSALMO for taking the dedication and patience to teach us every necessary tool for the creation of the robots since it was needed for a correct piece elaboration.

Thanks to that, I was part of the competence and apply my technic knowledge like in the area of communication with people, I feel that this will help because I would really like dedicate myself to the engineering area and apply everything I learned in the competence since those are really useful knowledge and that it is very important that as teenagers, we start to know these areas since in any moment, they can help us in any process inside of the university and professional field.

Definitely, these courses that FUSALMO provides of Youths Creating Future are a blessing since it gives many teenagers the opportunity to overcome themselves just as I did, with new research of the working market, but with perseverance, self-confidence and the support of the people who God puts in our paths, we can achieve everything.

Currently, I am working in the Call Center field and definitely, when we start learning, we start seeing changes in our personalities, skills and in the way we develop our daily life and thanks to this I can tell that my life has changed thanks to this project.

am Gabriel Segovia, one of the beneficiaries of the course and programs given by FUSALMO. I am completely thankful to them for allowing youths to overcome themselves. reason why I registered in the course of Bank Cashier is because I have always wanted to overcome myself and I also saw the opportunity in an announcement, I got motivated and applied without never imagining the opportunities that it would open for me, and thanks to that bravery that gave me the opportunity to be part of it.

My experience inside of the formation was very great because I was able to meet new companions and people who would contribute to that course, I also learned a lot of other things such as: improving my math abilities and about the document application that exists inside of this course, also adding that when I finished the course, my experience was very great because we all were able to finish.

Jóvenes SI+ Betting to the development:

The conscientization business campaign “(Jóvenes Si+: Apostando al desarrollo” Youths SI+ Betting to the development) Borns as an initiative of FUSALMO (Salvador del Mundo Foundation) in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with the purpose of promoting a human perception of the talent in youths who live in vulnerable areas, as people who are capable to make part in the business development in the country.

In 2022, we started a process in which, thanks to the gestion of the German Cooperation GIZ, the campaign expanded to the Centro American countries through their strategic allies who joined forces to replicate the actions. For this reason, we were able to create it even in adverse situations such as the pandemic, we awoke the talent and juvenile initiatives who bet for the development for example: youth entrepreneurship. Achieving a bigger reach in a regional level, with the purpose to promote a better awareness more integral and inclusive with the talents of youths who live in stigmatized areas.

I Join:

During 2022, FUSALMO participated in the second edition of the campaign “I join Talks: The voices of Inclusion” (“Yo me Uno Talks: Las voces de la Inclusión”) created by Credomatic Bank, where along with other six more non-profit organizations, work for the education with girls, boys, teenagers and youths, participated in obtaining prizes of $10,000 y $5,000 dollars

The campaign started in October and consisted of 2 categories that pretended to boost the job that the organizations make through the viralization of videos and generating direct donations in the youmeuno.com platform, which is still available for people who wish to continue supporting the causes.

During that month, Alicia Galeas, President of the Youths Network Fusalmo, represented the work, ideals and objectives of FUSALMO, appearing in mass media and transmitting a message that invited to know more about the job of the foundation, motivating people to join as donators. On the last November 16 of 2022 we developed an event with the awards, where the organization that received more donations took the prize of $10,000 and the video with the most plays was awarded with $5,000. Additional to this, Bank Credomatic surprised the other organizations with a prize of $1,000 as a recognition for the work that they do day by day.

Dinner of Joy in Los Ángeles:

The Salvador del Mundo Foundation (FUSALMO) and FUSALMOUSA celebrated the traditional dinner Happiness Dinner with the objective to benefit the educative and integral programs that answer the necessities of children, teenagers and Salvadoran youths. Highlighting the support of the Latin American community, especially Salvadoran, Centro American and Mexican through FUSALMOUSA, who through their management have benefited up until now an amount of 5,000 girls, boys, teenagers and youths who make part of FUSALMO El Salvador.

For the third year in a row FUSALMO innovates making the most outstanding event in a national level, through their platform TRANSFORMA.

Making use of the technological innovation presented the 10, 11 y 12 of November, completely virtual the event from FUSALMO: Virtual Party, which was developed through the platform called: party.fusalmo.org, in which the public logged in freely from any mobile device or equipment.

During the event we had many activities as topics given for expositions from nationally and internationally renowned speakers, such as: Ángel Dubón of Microsoft with an exposition nominated “The value of the certifications in technology in the cloud” juvenile conversations and a Talk Show with the professional communicator Henry Urbina, ambassador of the Youths FUSALMO, nominated “life project and development of competences in the new context of innovation”, stands in 3D of sponsor businesses, cultural demonstrations and artistic presentations such as the Orchestra of the National Institution Francisco Menéndez. Polígono Industrial Don Bosco and Ricaldone Institution and also the theatre presentations.

We are very lucky to have national and international companies interested in what FUSALMO represents. This year 2022, we have the collaboration of many companies who have an interest for youths and the implementation of job opportunities.

Inside of the projects that were developed, we looked to give to the participants, competences for their employability, like this, getting a mutual benefit in which, the companies achieve more capable youths to assume work challenges and while at the same time, the youths can have access to a job.

Mass Media:

We thank mass media at national and international level during 2022, who gave us support through: spots, mentions, notes and interviews in which we counted 85 appearances in different communication channels, such as: television, radio, written and digital press.

This allowed us to reach more people being carriers of good news and opportunities to benefit the Salvadoran population, especially children, adolescents and youths.

Also, we have coverage of events which generated us public presence, increasing the reach of the messages and offering countable data which gives us a better analysis of the results and allows us to measure the reach of the objectives.

We thank the national companies who count with their social responsibility towards the development of kids, teenagers and youths, betting on the progress but most of all, betting for the most vulnerable populations, supporting programs such as the ones that FUSALMO develops, through different activities that generate safe spaces. With your donations, we can keep implementing projects orientated to the development of peaceful and coexisting environments.

We are very grateful to the international companies who keep dining at our work so that we can reach more people.

Thanks to this, we achieved very important activities to collect funds such as: the Happiness Dinner in Los Ángeles, a celebration that had the support of people who were very generous and collaborated together so that all of the assistants could be part of the coexistence and the event could be a success. This event, same as with the others we did, in which we receive accompaniment allows us to finance more programs and activities in benefit of children, teenagers and Salvadoran youths.
