Who we are? We are a non profit Foundation, founded in 2001, that through comprehensive educational processes we develop flexible Programs and Projects that responded to the needs of children, adolescents and youth in areas of greater population and social vulnerability. FUSALMO arises to provide an alternative to children and youth, mainly with limited economic resources and in conditions of social risk. Through the promotion of sports and education in technology, art, the culture of peace, values, respect for the environment, among others. Throughout all these years FUSALMO has accumulated a lot of experience, managing to attend an average of 7,500 children and young people per week in its facilities, extending this work to the 14 departments and 80 municipalities nationwide. FUSALMO is created at the initiative of the Salesian Institution in El Salvador, which is joined by businessmen through the Salvadoran Integral Education Foundation (FEDISAL) and Salesian Cooperators (Lay people committed to Salesian work).
Mission We are a Salesian Organization that fosters the development of capacities and the integral and innovative liberation through the protagonism of childhood, adolescence and youth in conditions of social vulnerability.
Vision To be a reference organization with international positioning in processes of integral development of childhood, adolescence and youth.
The main means that FUSALMO has to carry out its mission are its modern and extensive facilities, called Salesian Youth Centers, which are located in three departments at a national level: San Miguel, Santa Ana, and Soyapango; and the FUSALMO Cultural Center, in Soyapango too.
Message from the PRESIDENT OF FUSALMO
I
n its twenty years of existence, FUSALMO, like a good wine, has riped its undeniable vocation of service to childhood, adolescence and youth and the conviction that “the poorest should be offered the best”, through an education that allows them to build a solid life project that empowers them to contribute productively to the construction of a fairer and more humane society. Because FUSALMO is more than an Organization, it is a Community of generous people, committed to education, to the country and to young people.
For this, it has been able to respond to the changes that continuously affect the youth reality, giving timely and qualified responses. In this sense, two years ago a process of renewal of the educational proposal began with the design and implementation of the STEAM + LAB, which, in terms of rights and a deep ethical proposal, aims to create learning environments that guarantee our children development of the 21stcentury competencies, beyond the economic and technocratic paradigms, strengthening the
talent with creativity, critical and collaborative capacity, with an advanced mastery of technology, and through the introduction of ICT in educational processes. This effort sought to strengthen the educational proposal traditionally developed in our campuses for students from the most disadvantaged schools in the public sector. Go from a weekly teaching day in a period of two years, to an unlimited accompaniment through virtual education. The Pandemic that devastates our world, seemed to condemn us to abandon our dreams and get away from the
young. But the commitment to our vocation is stronger and motivated us to accelerate the process with the creation of FUSALMO VIRTUAL, which, through an attractive and playful platform called TRANSFORMA, is committed to accompanying our leaders wherever they are, providing them, as well as that the face-to-face experience, a house that welcomes them as a family and where they can find comfort and attention; a community where you can live the values of the Gospel together with other young people in search; a school that empowers them to develop a solid and committed life project and a playground where they can meet friends and have a good time. Art, technology, sports, youth leadership, are some of the fields that they will enjoy it. We also work on the development of STEAM + Virtual, where they can, from home, develop projects that strengthen their scientific skills with creativity and mastery of technology, while developing positive, critical, committed and inclusive leadership, which that empowers them to face the demands of the future, not as spectators, pieces, or simple users, but as architects of a world where
the centrality of the human person is emphasized, the image of God and possessor of an inviolable dignity, capable of acting on his own himself, to choose freely and to live in community with others in society, developing relationships of communion and interdependence. FUSALMO was born to serve the children, adolescents and youth of our country. We go on and on, with the help of God and our benefactors, serving them wherever they are. I invite our partners, benefactors and friends to generously join in this beautiful and unpostponable mission. Fr. Pierre M. Vitelli
Wellcome from the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FUSALMO “Throughout these years of work, we have identified that the needs of our beneficiary population have been constantly changing”.
The Salvador del Mundo Foundation (FUSALMO, acronym in spanish) is an institution with 20 years of work, which arises with the purpose of generating positive changes in childhood and youth, their families and the environment in which they develop.
The means that FUSALMO has to carry out its mission are its spacious and modern facilities, 3 sports centers and 1 Cultural Center, located in three of the main socially vulnerable areas of the country: Soyapango, Santa Ana and San Miguel, where we attend weekly an average of 7,500 girls, boys and young people, which translates into an attention of more than 437,932 people throughout 20 years of our work as a foundation.
Since 2003 we launched the main institutional programs and the Don Bosco Program (PIJDB acronym in spanish) became in our flagship project, being a complementary education program to the national curriculum, aimed at students from sixth grade to third year of high school public education, in the areas surrounding our sports centers.
Over time, this program has been strengthened thanks to the support of national and international organizations, this strengthening has been both in quality and in the diversity of components that we offer to our beneficiaries.
However, throughout these years of work, we have identified that the needs of our beneficiary population have been constantly
changing, which is how we have been implementing and strengthening programs aimed at the socio-labor training of young people, offering practical tools and information that allows them enter to the labor market, linking them with the business sector or training them for the formation of their own microenterprises, through the development of entrepreneurial skills.
We have also promoted youth participation and protagonism, which has to do with the use of young people’s free time so that they can develop all their skills and for that we have sports schools, programs that promote art and culture, as well as participation and influence in decision spaces.
Another of our training bets is technology and innovation, generating a strategy that supports children and youth in matters of educational robotics, drones, graphic design, English for work, because we have proven that all these training elements contribute to are away from the violence that is generated in the environments where they develop.
Our vision is aimed at continuing to benefit children and youth with our institutional programs, work that would not be possible without the support of institutions, companies, friends of the foundation, national and international cooperation, and all those who have allowed us to share and dream during 20 years to transform the life of each person who comes to our programs. COMPREHENSIVE LIBERATING EDUCATION Strengthen capacities and abilities in children, adolescents, and youth, based on the Salesian charism. In that way, they can build a project of solidarity life, which will be seen reflected and supported by their family, school and other instances of the community.
What is it? It is a program based on the components of liberating personal education, and community education. It arises to develop capacities and skills in girls, boys, adolescents, and young people to build a project of solidarity life and with a sense of community. Composed by:
1. Don Bosco Program (PIJDB). 2. Family Care Center (CAIF). 3. Summer Adventure (Holiday Period).
Population served: Publics schools students who live in social vulnerability situations, poverty, poor sports facilities, and lack of computer centers Mothers, Fathers and/or Family responsible. Through the DON BOSCO PROGRAM (PIJDB), complementary education is provided that supports the National Curriculum of Formal Education in El Salvador. That is aimed at second, third cycle and high school students belonging to public schools, who have difficult social environments and who lack technological and sports resources and poor facilities. Each selected school remains in the Program for two years. There is an agreement with the Ministry of Education (MINED) that since 2004 coordinates the execution of the PIJDB with public schools. That works from the Departmental Directorates of Education and the endorsement of the Department of Art, Culture, Recreation, and Sports, at the central and departmental level.
Julio César Mejía I studied at Jardines de Monte Blanco School. I was in seventh grade when I participated in the Don Bosco Program, and I stayed there for 2 years. Also, I was part of the Animated Classroom, 10 years ago. Something that helped me a lot was that the educators taught us to be clear about what was good and what was bad. They didn’t look at us as problematic young people, they looked at us with respect. They gave us the freedom to do things but always in the right way. That led me to be part of it for so long here and make the decision to study Psychology. Now I work, and I am studying the fourth year of my degree because I want to help other children, as well as FUSALMO helped me.
The start of the Don Bosco Program (PIJDB) was based on an investigation carried out by the Don Bosco University of El Salvador. This helped to identify the demands of young residents of the contexts where the PIJDB would have a presence, to analyze youth reality and define the Salesian educational lines until reaching the specific proposal of the Program. The general objective of the PIJDB is to strengthen capacities and abilities in children and youth, based on the Salesian Charism, so that they build a project of solidarity life, which will be being reflected and supported by their family, school and other instances of the community. To strengthen support networks between families and prevent risky behaviors in sons and daughters, the Family Care Center (CAIF) was created. In this way, family and community protection factors are strengthened. The initiatives of community leaders to improve municipal coexistence are supported. This is done through training in leadership, a culture of peace and methodologies for
the prevention of risky behavior of adolescents. Community and recreational family activities are carried out, resulting in the generation of efficient services to prevent violence in their environment. What happens during vacation time? FUSALMO creates the SUMMER ADVENTURE Program, which aims to avoid leisure time misused as a preventive method of violence. That is why in our four headquarters spaces of attention and fun are created, where through educational workshops such as sports, cooking, technology, art, painting, dancing and many more areas, girls, boys, adolescents, and young people enjoy their vacations in a good coexistence place.
SOCIO-LABOR MANAGEMENT This program aims to train young people in the communities served by FUSALMO, so that they have the best tools that allow them to develop personal, social and work skills, contributing productively to society. It’s conformed by:
1.
Labour Intermediation: Aimed at young people who wish to integrate into the labor market, they are oriented in labor aspects such as the preparation of the résumé, interviews, personal presentation, among others. Likewise, the search for opportunities is made and if there is a coincidence between the profile of the young person and the companie’s requirements, a referral is made to an interview.
2. Technical training: The
fundamental purpose is to train young people in technical areas and develop skills to integrate into the world of work. Currently, courses are taught according to the specialties of: Customer Service in Restaurant Service, Sales
and Customer Service, English for Call Center and English for Tourism.
3. Entrepreneurship: Oriented
so that young people can be trained as economic and social entrepreneurs, preparing their business plan and at the end of the process they can start their own business. The income for this project is mainly the desire of the person to change their living conditions through the creation of a business.
4.
Return to non-formal education: it facilitates people between the ages of 15 and 24 to return to formal education through Flexible Modalities of Education, mainly to continue their third cycle or high school studies living in the municipalities with the highest rates of social violence.

Experience Expansion Projects: They are called expansion projects because the experience of formal and non-formal education, as well as sports and recreation that FUSALMO works on, are exported outside its facilities. This allows the preventive system can be replicated in other educational settings. Force Line: Strengthening of formal education in public schools. New pedagogical methodologies, recreation, and family integration are promoted. Achievements: In this type of projects, the educational and empowerment processes benefit three groups of people: children and youth, teachers, and parents. In the same way, adapted curricula are generated in a culture of peace, values and fair play, leaving pedagogical toolboxes in the schools to improve the educational quality in them.

COMMUNITY SERVICES At FUSALMO we extend our work beyond the programs and strategic lines of work. That is why our Foundation allows neighboring communities to have access to the use of our facilities and spaces within the Salesian Youth Centers, and the FUSALMO Cultural Center. In our four headquarters, the community can make the rent for different events, guaranteeing the necessary security measures and space for recreation, free of violence. In this sense, our Salesian Youth Centers located in Soyapango, Santa Ana and San Miguel, as well as the FUSALMO Soyapango Cultural Center, offer the following services to the community:
1.Rentals for social events. 2. Renting of sports fields. 3. Events of Educational Centers and companies. 4. Events of the communities surrounding our facilities. 5. Institutional events. 6. Business events. 7. Loan of facilities to surrounding communities. 8. Parking for vehicles. 9. Gym. 10. Graduations. 11. Emission of card for use of facilities.
Salvadoran families are going through difficult times, given the national emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent rains. The country has lived through moments of anguish and many families have lost everything. There were a total of 29,968 families affected, according to data provided by the Government of El Salvador. Following the noble example of Saint John Bosco, faithful to its principles and values with the commitment of solidarity towards the population; FUSALMO provided assistance to the affected families, dedicating itself to the collection, distribution and delivery of food, clothing and hygiene items, making its facilities available as collection centers.

FUSALMO’s work, and when I saw several testimonials, I knew that I wanted to be part of the Foundation in some way. I love everything they have done and continues to do for Salvadoran children and youth. In 2019, after 15 years of not going to El Salvador, I returned because I wanted to know the facilities and see firsthand all the support they give to young people, and my husband accompanied me on the visit to FUSALMO. Today my family and I support FUSALMO because we
believe in the honesty of those who run the Foundation and I can feel the love to promote family unity and happy childhood.

We want them to share this ideal, to put our girls, boys, adolescents and young people at the center of their interests so that we can provide them with a better future, not of poetry, not of ideas, but something concrete, giving them back their dignity as people. So that our country can be the country we want and that we build it together. Fr. Pierre M. Vitelli PRESIDENT OF FUSALMO
