Foreword FIA is committed to supporting members and the broader fundraising community through quality professional development and training. Our 2022 program has been developed based on member and sector feedback and aims to meet the needs of our community in advancing ethical, best-practice fundraising.

The ongoing impacts of the pandemic have meant many charities are facing significant increases in demand for their services, so it has never been more vital for fundraisers to be effective, innovative and agile in how they raise funds. In so doing, organisations can continue operating and helping their beneficiaries. Investing in skill development always has a positive return on investment for all stakeholders.

In 2022, FIA will continue to offer a range of tutor-led online courses as well as a plan for a return to our popular face-to face-delivery in the second half of the year. As before, we offer courses at all levels and delivery modes from three-hour workshops to intensive two-day courses as well as our popular Certificate and Diploma courses.

As the peak body for professional fundraising, FIA offers the FIA Code course to raise standards of conduct and practice across the fundraising sector. Managing vulnerability in the context of donors and supporters is a challenging area for most organisations but it has become increasingly critical that fundraisers understand the cues and clues of vulnerability so you can manage it and reduce risk to your organisation and to the entire fundraising sector.

The FIA Code Authority undertakes regular and in-depth monitoring of member charities and often finds this area one lacking in best-practice due to the complexity. For this reason, FIA have developed this new course to assist members to achieve compliance with the FIA Code in Conduct Towards Donors (Clause 4) and in the Practice Note Donors in Vulnerable Circumstances. The Small Non-Profits Alliance Scholarship The Small Charities Scholarship supports individuals working at small organisations with limited professional fundraising experience. In 2021, the chosen scholarship recipient will be awarded: • a place at Fundraising Institute of Australia’s Fundraising Essentials course in the delivery mode of their choice • a complimentary 12-month Advanced Membership to the Small Non-Profits Alliance Eligible applicants must be working with a non-profit that is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission and has an annual revenue of no more than $1,000,000. This education initiative is made possible by the Small Non-Profits Alliance, an online community specifically dedicated to supporting small charities to connect, learn and grow.

FIA Foundation THE LEO ORLAND/FIA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR EARLY-CAREER FUNDRAISERS.

This scholarship is offered by the FIA Foundation in honour of Australian fundraising legend and FIA Fellow Leo Orland, to enable an early career fundraiser to gain a comprehensive foundation in best practice fundraising by studying the Fundraising Institute Australia’s Certificate of Professional Fundraising. Applicants must be a current individual member or staff of organisation member of FIA with a minimum of one year’s experience in fundraising (either volunteer or paid).

This scholarship is generously provided by Precision Group.

Applications for this scholarship will open in March 2022.

BMS Scholarship The BMS Scholarship provides support to the future leaders of fundraising. This scholarship is open to current individual members or staff of organisation members of FIA who have a minimum of three years’ experience in professional fundraising to be awarded a place on the Diploma of Professional Fundraising. This is a fully paid scholarship for the awarded recipient with study to be undertaken in 2021. This scholarship is provided for mid-career fundraisers looking to advance their skills and is offered thanks to BMS Group. Applications for this scholarship will open in April 2022.

FIA Conference National Scholarship The FIA Conference National Scholarship provides an opportunity for FIA members to attend the Conference when they would otherwise not have the opportunity, due to financial means. The scholarship was introduced in 2016 to help support and improve fundraising skills in small charities and not-for-profits within Australia. The scholarship covers the cost of a full FIA Conference member registration. The 2022 Scholarship has been provided by NGO Recruitment.

Frank Chamberlin Scholarship This Scholarship is aimed at improving the copywriting skills of fundraisers and offered with thanks to fundraising copywriting expert Frank Chamberlin. Frank retired in 2021 after more than 20 years of positive impact on FIA members and the broader sector. The Frank Chamberlin Scholarship will be awarded each year to one early career fundraising to undertake FIA’s Copywriting Essentials course online or in-class. Applications for this scholarship will open in June 2022.

During the eight-month program, we ask that mentors and mentees meet for a minimum of four 90-minute sessions which can be either face-to-face or online. Each partnership is unique and can be customised to suit the busy schedules and communication styles of your pairing.

FIA provides you with a toolkit of resources to help establish your partnership and to support you as either the mentor or mentee, as you work on professional goals together.

HOW IT WILL HELP YOUR CAREER

Research from Sun Microsystems showed that those who joined a professional program as mentors were six times more likely to get promoted, with retention rates at a high 69 per cent, compared to 49 per cent for people not involved in a mentoring program. These statistics are correlated to mentors being able to hone their interpersonal skills in listening, coaching, networking and providing constructive feedback. These skills are essential for readying professionals for leadership roles.
