Believe it or not, yep it’s August! Gotta start this by thanking everyone who came out to GGG this past Saturday and made this event a “HUGE” success. This was an event that was started by the old Full Throttle Midwest and we picked up and registered the name and will continue this event every year. We are in no way coping what they did but rather making this into an event that we at Full Throttle Publishing embrace and will always make into a fun day to raise money for charity. The old event had their purpose in mind and we have ours. We resurrected the name because it is a great way to raise money for 2 giving organizations each year. The whole day went off without a hitch and everyone we talked to said it was the largest turnout of any GGG that they had ever attended. I want to thank all the sponsors that helped make this a success and all 34 Vendors that came to sell their products or services. The crowd of people kept everyone busy all day and we are so grateful to everyone who attended. Dee Rock rocked the crowd with an awesome day of music. We have to express a special thanks to our friend and special guest Mr. Bo Mathews from WIL. He did the MC work for a big part of the show. However, the real thanks goes to the 2 organizations that we put this event on for, Bikers against Childs Abuse and Children’s Miracle Network. Scandal and his guys from B.A.C.A were there to help support the day and another special thanks goes out to our new Full Throttle friend and Team members Zach and his mother Cheryl from Children’s Miracle Network. Zach is truly an inspiration to all of us and we admire the strength he has carried through his 17 years of life. These two unbelievable organizations do so much to help kids that we are proud to have helped raise money for them. Also remember they accept charitable donations direct so look them up and help them out. I will begin to work on next year’s GGG starting today and we will be seeking a much larger venue and will have a bigger and better event that we did this year. We certainly needed a far bigger space this year than we had. Unfortunately we had to turn down many people who wanted to be in the car and bike show, but they were still able to attend the fun. I promise you that will not happen next year. We will have room for any and all who want to participate in this great event to raise money for charity. Cindy and I thank each and every one of you that helped us raise money for these caring organizations. Last but not least to all of the people who donated their time to help pull this event off, judges, Full Throttle girls, Pin-up girls, lot attendants, gate attendants and everyone else we thank you immensely. Remember, will be looking for you next year. And as always we appreciate you, the Full Throttle Magazine readers, advertisers and fans that keep the Full Throttle name the most recognized name in motorcycle magazine everywhere! Ride safe and we will see you on the road with Full Throttle.

Hello, Ladies. Welcome back. I hope Y’all had a great month of July. There was lots to do and see. From the 4th of July weekend to our GGG event and let’s not forget the Illinois Biker’s for Babies. It was a great month. One thing that I am a big advocate about is eating right and exercising. Everyone who knows me knows I enjoy keeping active. Now, I give myself some down time; you have to. It’s finding that balance. I mentioned last month that I always want to stay physically fit to help with my riding. Having the strength in my shoulders, arms, core and back helps me maneuver through turns and corners. The push and pull of the handlebars takes the use of my biceps, triceps and shoulders. I even use my back and core muscles to steer. Before I had a reverse on my trike, it took a lot of leg strength to back that beast up. And admittedly I would use the assistance of my husband to help. But, not too many bikes have a reverse and you will need to engage the strength of your legs to maneuver your bike. Aside from your muscle strength, there is your stamina. If you carry excess body weight, it can cause you to become sluggish and fatigue too easily. This is not good, especially if you are traveling long distances. If you are traveling you need to be alert at all times. Your reflex actions can become compromised if you get tire. Getting tired while you are riding your bike is way more dangerous than if you are in a car. So, it’s very important that you eat right, drink plenty of water and get an ample amount of exercise. This is good advice whether you ride a motorcycle or not. Jessica wrote in telling me that she loves to hike. That is her form of exercise. She also runs in several 5 and 10 K’s throughout the year. She loves being outdoors and riding a motorcycle keeps on that

Page 8 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Sorry Boys, No Men Allowed!

trend. She rides a Honda Shadow. This is her first bike and even though it’s a smaller and lighter bike, she still notices that it does take specific muscle to maneuver her bike. Carly talked about one thing that I can completely relate with. She said that when she started riding, it was on a Harley sportster. She went on her first all day ride and by two-thrids of the way through the day, the muscles in her left forearm all the way down to her thumb were killing her. This was from pulling in the clutch lever. She never realized that it took even hand and lower arm muscles. Needless to say she was a bit achy for a couple of day after that ride. OK, on to the next topic; Detachments. What I mean by that is simple. Do you ride alone or do you always ride with one or more people. Some women purposly ride with someone and some women feel comfortable riding all by themselves. Me,I make a choice to always ride with my Husband. Not that I have any fear or lack of comfidence, I just don’t like riding alone. I would say my Husband is the one that has more fear of the fact if I were to ride without him. And, again not because he does not have faith in my riding ability. His fear is that if something, God Forbid, ever happen to me and he wasn’t with me, he would never forgive himself. He’s very protective of me and he always wants to make sure that I am safe at all times. Tell me your story. LADIES, LET’S CHAT! editor@fullthrottle-magazine.com

Have you ever been out enjoying a great ride when all of a sudden you hear, “kerchunck, kerchunck.” The first thought that comes to mind is “Son of a B**ch”. Your bike has broken down and now what are you going to do? You grab for your phone and hope to God that it has a charge, or better yet a signal. You start looking up towing companies and you make that dreaded call explaining where you are and pray they even come out that far! Now you wait (and wait and wait) and finally the tow truck shows up. Most tow trucks are set up for vehicles and not motorcycles. So, when you see the tow truck, your first thought is, “How are they going to secure my bike?” They don’t have a wheel chalk and the straps they have are beat up, or worse yet – they have CHAINS! Next thing you know the tow truck driver asks YOU for help as he lifts the flat bed and angles it down so the back end of it is touching the ground. He wants you to sit on your bike and help hold your bike steady while he wraps these beat up straps around your handlebars and frame. The driver starts to lift the truck bed off the ground with your bike shaking and wobbling and all you get is this gut sinking feeling and you pray to God that your bike gets to the service shop in one piece. Not the kind of ride you were looking for, right? Page 12 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

This was the type of experience Ernie Deason, Owner of Broken Bell Motorcycle Towing, while riding through a storm in Central IL in 2009. The following summer, Ernie was up in Canada enjoying riding through the scenic roads and byways when he misjudged the distance of a curb and damaged the front wheel of his 2006 Harley Davidson Soft-Tail Standard. His bike was unrideable, so Ernie sent is uncle to get help at a nearby motorcycle rally. When his uncle returned, he brought with him a guy with a pickup truck that had a hydraulic lift in the bed. Ernie was amazed by this slick operation. The tow guy pressed a button and before Ernie knew it, a platform with an attached wheel chalk lifted out of the bed of the truck and slowing landed flat on the ground. The guy then wheeled Ernie’s bike up on the platform and locked the front wheel into the wheel chalk. Then he took soft straps to wrap around the handlebars and frame, so he would not pose any damage to the bike. The bike was strapped down and secured onto the platform. Another push of the button and the platform and the bike was lifted and safely secured into the bed of the truck. Ernie did not lift a finger to help. Ernie was so thoroughly impressed by the whole operation. He thought to himself, “I haven’t seen anything like this in the states.” Being a contractor by trade, he knew all the safety precautions when it comes to any manual labor. The biggest rule of thumb - you don’t let the customer do any of the work. There are too many liabilities. He also grew up around motorcycles and is a big motorcycle enthusiast. He understands the importance motorcycles are to their owners. So, in 2012, Broken Bell Motorcycle Towing was born. Ernie wanted to bring this type of motorcycle towing service to all of us. Broken Bell Towing is the only specialized motorcycle towing company around town. He can transport anything from motorcycles, customs, choppers, trikes, scooters, dirt bikes, ATV’s and more. He has even transported a claw foot bath tub and a riding lawnmower! Broken Bell has the capabilities of transporting two motorcycles at one time. They can pick-up your bike and deliver for service at your local dealer and return the bike to you while you’re at work, so you can ride the open road on the weekend instead of dealing with the maintenance. They are open are 24/7 and their service areas include all of St Louis and the surrounding counties and some parts of Illinois. With reasonable rates these guys are who you want to call.

What an amazing day we all had at the 6th annual Grease, Gears and Grooves. The weather was perfect. We felt so much love and support as we worked diligently to put this whole thing together; as our months of planning paid off. The whole day would not have happend if it weren’t for our team pulling together. I especially want to thank the Mayor of Sunset Hills, Mark Furrer. With every big event, you are bound to hit a snag or two. Well, we were no exception and with the Mayors help, problems were solved and the day pushed on. Along with the Mayor, we want to give another big thanks to the City of Sunset Hills for being so gracious in allowing us to come into their home. We want to thank all the sponsors for their contributions. Without your support, we would not have been able to do this. This biggest Thank you goes to YOU, our readers; picking up our magazine and taking time to read it. Taking the time to read and share our Facebook postings. Helping to spread the word about the event. To all the BACA Members that helps distribute flyers and posters. To everyone involved that had any part in making sure that everyone knew about the event. Watch for it next year; GGG is going to be bigger and better. As Bob said in the Publisher Notes, we are starting to plan NOW! More vendors, More food, More Cars, More Bikes and More Fun!

Special thanks for David Aubuchon Photography for sharing a few of his photographs

“We Gonna Rock

Yep, more cheesy music jokes! Welcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! Its proving to be an absolutely amazing riding season so far and I hope all of you have been enjoying it as much as I have! The rain has brought some high waters comprising some of our favorite river spots but has really shown us some amazing weather that’s a bit cooler than what we are all used to here in the muggy Midwest!

As I was writing my article on the new Harley-Davidson 500cc and 750cc Street models last month, I had no clue that in fact I would be walking into the shop the very next morning only to learn of an even more ground breaking possible release from the motor company! That’s right, LiveWire! You most likely caught a glimpse online somewhere, maybe the national new stations, any news websites, on a tech website or on a motorcycle website. In true Harley fashion the media campaign was massive for the LiveWire promotion! The net and news were an electric buzz with the chatter of the Livewire project that would be cruising historic route 66 to show the masses what the future of the Motor Company has to offer. Now most of you are thinking the same thing I am when I got the news, WHY? Is Harley trying to keep up with the Prius owning Jones’? Are they trying to show some love to the tree hugging hippies? Is it the EPA pushing us towards a future no one knows anything about? Are they building Livewire to save the whales? No not so much. Well here’s something you may not know about Harley. The Motor Company is already in the top ten when it comes to earth friendly company’s here in the states. So if you think Harley is rolling out this beast make the turtles and birds of the world happy? You are dead wrong! This bike is a “Hey world!! Look what we can do!” and I believe they have hit the mark! As I pulled into the lot at Doc’s, I was surprised to see the massive crowd that had come out to see, what I believed to be an abomination, an oddity, a freak of Harley nature if you will. As I parked my gas burning, oil consuming Springer off to the side and revved the engine once more so the LiveWire could hear me burning off more dead dinosaurs and hurting the environment. It’s time to go see what the future is all about. As I approached the LiveWire I had to admit, the thing kinda got my heart racing! The sporty lines, the well placed mirrors, rear fender and a high tech touch screen console that would make a geek cry! This bike had some very sexy lines and the overall aesthetics of were very easy on the eyes! It took me back to my sport bike days. I threw a leg over and I could feel my inner nerd just needing to know more! I was very

Down To Electric Avenue” impressed with the ergonomics of the bike; sporty look with a comfortable stance. I have been on a Zero (all electric bike) and didn’t care for the very slim frame line. Harley took note of this and gave the bike a “tank”. I have no idea what’s under there as the bike needs no fuel, but it really makes the bike feel like just that, a bike!

After I had picked the bike apart myself I had a chance to corner one of the Harley representatives. He was more than willing and able to answer all my questions about the bike. I was a little disappointed to hear that the charge will only take you a maximum of sixty miles but I honestly wasn’t surprised. It was also nice to know that there was an aggressive mode setting that would leave you stranded in thirty miles, and in the hands of a hooligan like myself I can only imagine it would not last more than ten minutes. Although with the 100 plus foot pounds of torque constantly at your fingertips it must be a white knuckle ride! And not to mention the lack of a transmission and the need for shifting the power delivery is smooth as glass (again in theory). The bike has two sets of batteries one to run the electronics such as the display and the lights and a separate battery pack runs the bikes itself. The rep informed me that on a standard wall charge the bike could take up to eight hours to charge, also while having the option to plug into a 220 volt wall socket to charge in about three hours! That’s pretty impressive seeing as how my IPhone seems to take longer than that! All that’s left to talk about is the sound this thing makes. Now where most electric vehicles are virtually silent the LiveWire is not! When I first heard it on the advertisement I have to admit I laughed my ass off! It sounded like George Jetsons flying car to me! But after doing some more research it started to grow on me. The bike sounds like nothing on the road, its sounds like a futuristic fighter jet coming to hunt you down and destroy your gas guzzling bike! So…is this the future? Will the bike ever really be produced? Will it be a hit or a flop? I guess all we can do is see how the American public receives the LiveWire? To be honest the bike received a lot of positive response, more so than I ever expected myself. In my last article I was bitching about not having those jet packs and flying cars we were promised by Popular Mechanics; it looks like we may not be that far off after all? Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride!!

“How much wood would a Woodchuck chuck if a Woodchuck could chuck wood”? Now, even though that may be one of the most famous tongue twisters, you may still want to know the answer. I would just ask Siri or Google Voice. They may know the answer. As far as Ryan Meyers, Owner of The Wood Den, he may not know the answer either, but one things for sure he loves to whittled, carve and shape wood into beautiful pieces of art. It all started back when Ryan was serving in the US Marines. He would whittle sticks to help pass the time. He soon discovered that he had a real knack for wood carving. In 1999 He decided to take it a step further. Ryan picked up a chainsaw and started carving objects out of stumps of wood. As he would look at the shape and lines of that piece of wood, he would begin to envision what type of art can come from it. Page 38 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

As Ryan ended in service with the Marines and completed college, he went on to become a first grade school teacher in the Festus school district. He has been a school teacher for the last 19 years; all the while still keeping up with his passion for wood carving. His students always enjoyed it when he would bring in fun wood project to do, such as bird houses. People started noticing he works and began to commission him to carve out sculptures. With that, Ryan opened up his first wood carving shop in St. Genevieve in 2000. From there Ryan closed that location and moved to Festus/Crystal City in 2002, that’s where The Wood Den was born. Most everything that The Wood Den has to offer is custom. They might have a few pieces that will sell off the shelves, but mainly when people come and visit the store they will have something in mind that they would like to have made for themselves or as a gift. Once you had an idea on what you would like to see, Ryan would sketch it out for you and go over all the details. This will ensure that you get exactly what you would like. For custom orders, it could take around two week. Depending on the project it could take a little less time. The Wood Den does not just do chainsaw carvings. They do hand carvings and well as create rustic home furnishing. They will do anything from a small hand carved piece to conversation pieces to functional home furnishing pieces. Another service they offer is onsite location carvings. If you have a tree stump and you would like to have it carved, Ryan will come to you and carve out a custom creation. That process takes about two day. The next time you want to have a custom wood carving creation, contact Ryan, at The Wood Den and let him work his magic. To get more details and to look at some of Ryan’s work you can visit his website at www.Wood-Den.com or visit his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-WOOD-DEN/130373007007246 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 39 Story By C. Making Automotive In the heart of Pacific, Missouri lays one of the most established restoration and collision shops in the state – SHOW ME AUTO BODY.

Owner Dave Clapper grew up in the little town about eleven miles west of Union, Missouri called Beaufort. His father was a body technician in this town and taught Dave everything he knew. By 5th grade Dave started working around cars, and by the end of that summer had his own primer gun in his hand. It wasn’t long into Dave’s adulthood that he was blessed with the opportunity to run his own shop. Show Me Auto Body and Restoration, Inc. has been in business since 1984 at his current restoration location of 118 East Union Street, and the collision location opened in 2011 at 2326 West Osage Street; both in the city of Pacific, Missouri. To get the most comprehensive vehicle specification for an efficient pulling system with fast and easy anchoring, and accurate computerized measurements on your chassis, Dave uses the industries top machinery and equipment with the greatest exactitude to produce quality work. For a unique multiple yet simultaneous pulling methods to return the vehicle’s damaged structure and sheet metal to its original position the Chief EZ Liner Frame Rack is used on your vehicle. The machine tilts hydraulically for either drive on or winch positioning of the vehicle depending on what’s best to start the repairs. To achieve the portability of a body & frame straightener, but with the pulling power of a drive-on frame rack, the Versa Frame Rack is also used in his shops. This allows for the pulling post and the body beam to swivel giving increased reach for pulls without remounting the vehicle. The Chief Continental Universal Measuring System is used on these machines as a precision tool that offers state-of-the-art unlimited measuring capabilities. It can be applied to any type of vehicle whether it is of a unitized body construction with or without struts, or a perimeter frame construction. Regardless of how the data is received, all data is double checked through the system to insure you receive only the most comprehensive and precise vehicle dimensional data possible. His shop also uses a Chief Full Frame Anchor system which allows for securing frame rail vehicles to the main-frames of most pulling systems. The system design is to keep anchoring stand bases outboard of the vehicle’s structural components allowing more room for measuring, and a secure hold. For painting Dave uses Down Draft Spray Booths. These are generally accepted as providing the best airflow for an excellent job of controlling the paint

job. With air being drawn vertically around the vehicle or painted object, and exhausted from underneath while painting, the risk of overspray, dust, and contaminants are reduced from being pulled immediately downward. This leaves for a cleaner finish which saves you money by reducing buffering or needing a correction after the finish is dry. You will also feel at ease with this top-notch work being performed knowing the comfort of all his shops are PPG Certified, as well as the techs and estimators being ASE Certified and I-CAR trained. Given Dave has the best of the best to work with, and the skills to pay the bills, he decided to go on the hunt for the satisfaction of something he can call his own. In 2006, he came across an advertisement in his home town of Beaufort for a 1967 Pontiac Firebird that had been abandoned in a barn. This poor hunk of metal was indescribable because it didn’t even look like it was ever once upon a time a car!!! He tinkered with it, gave it some TLC, but started to lose hope. He pushed it in the woods behind his house, and almost threw in the towel. Then the angelic voices of the Auto Gods whispered words of inspiration in his ear and he went whole heartedly in on a one year project that resulted in his magically delicious red bundle of flaming prideful joy. This is no surprise to its Firebird name, for this mythical bird is known by many to be able to regenerate from injury and is therefore immortal. It just needed Dave to bring it back to life and rise again. His work on this now flamboyant 67’ Firebird has won him the prestigious “Builders Choice Award” at one of the most sought after events from the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. This is one of the highest honors your car can receive at a Goodguys national event that recognizes the nation’s finest rods, customs, trucks and muscle cars. This award is given out to only 10 of 3000 entries, and the caliber of Dave Clappers work was highly validated!! Now I don’t know about you, but 30 years of a success at your craft says something to the highest level of being a reputable business of trustworthiness and respect. I have met Dave and his wife Nancy and can say hands down they are two of the most caring and dedicated individuals I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. They put their all into making their business triumphant. I predict an abundance of years to come of satisfied customers. Knock on wood, but God forbid anything happen to my vehicle, I know where I’m going to bring it back to looking brand spanking new!!! - SPECS 1967 Pontiac Firebird Engine 502 Chevy Big Block 680 Horsepower Tremec 5 speed Transmission 373 Gear Ratio Flow Master Exhaust Aluminum Wheels Custom Interior

Story By Roger Ferris Show Car Specialist

Musc

Sometimes it is hard for a car or bike owner to come up with a name for their ride, this one was pretty simple. What would be a better name for Dan Novara’s Nova than “SINISTER” For the people who don’t know Dan by his name will most likely know what his tail lights look like when he goes Full Throttle on them. A few weeks ago, I was at the Super Chevy Show at Gateway Motorsports Park displaying two of the cars I built when I first met Dan. It was a busy and rainy night. The rain would stop long enough for you to dry your car over and over again. Dan was lucky enough to have his car under the pavilion so I took cover and as I stood there, his car jumped up and said look at me. I’m glad I hear cars talk because this is one Bad Ass Nova. The very first thing I saw was the rear wing with a Matheis Race Cars Inc. sticker on it. I had met Rob Matheis years ago when we were talking about me coming to work with him as his body & paint guy. With the name Matheis on a car you know it has been done right. With me being the owner of Showcar Specialist I know about quality and details and the more I looked, the more I liked this Nova. As we talked I learned a lot about the car and its owner. Dan was very easy to talk; come to find out we have a lot of friends in common. I have been around nice cars most of my life and it is sad to say SOME of the car owners are kind of arrogant; Dan was nothing like that. In the beginning Chevrolet didn’t have this life in mind for this MEEK little NOVA; it was born a plain Jane,’69 NOVA with a 3-speed stick and a 235 cu.in 6 cylinder car. A lot of changes were made; the engine for one is now a 509 cu. in., built by Tim Habel of Federal Mogul, that has well over 2200 horsepower with only 10 pounds of boost on alcohol. It is capable of having a lot more, but I’m not giving away all of his secrets. You can find out the hard way as many will. The transmission for now is a 2 speed Powerglide from “Transmissions To Go” with shifting being handled by CO2 from “Precision Performance” You might be thinking, how is this power available in this little NOVA? Once you see the exhaust coming out from the top of the fenders, you may understand a little better. It has twin Precision-Pro Mod 88mm turbo under the hood.

Car Mania

Another big name that might ring a bell and goes with lots of power and speed is Scott Lowery. He handled the new up and coming product that is called Hyro-Dipping that you can see on many places of the car. Scott was also the person who performed the first start up on this engine. The dyno and tuning was handled by Pro-Line Racing with Steve Petty, Eric Dilliard, Jamie and Danny. The interior was handled by The Top Shop and powder coating by Marty Vondurant. Like I said, Chevrolet didn’t have the same vision for this Nova with the Uni-body as Dan did. He took it to Matheis Race Cars to let Rob make the car what it is today with the cage, chassis, turbo, exhaust and a whole lot more to make it safe and fast. Dan has owned this car for some time and the first paint job was done at King Dodge. But, with all of the improvements needed such as the hood, deck lid, engine bay, cage and chassis it needed to be repainted. This was no easy task but, Cullen Schoffel of Pauls Paint & Body, was up for the challenge. And to add to the “Sinister” look he had Crazy Ed do the hood graphics. With all of the car builds out there, we all know it is not just one person doing everything, it takes a full team. Another BIG help with “SINISTER” is someone who was always helping in all areas of the Nova, Dan’s brother, Mark Novara. Simple thanks to Mark won’t do for all that he continues to do for Dan and his Nova In our lives, we all have those special people who we will never forget and we dedicate our things near to us. This Nova is no different; Dan dedicates this Nova to the memory of his brother Kevin Novara & to Jay Kauling. I have been told by many women that: Behind every good man is a great woman. All of us men laugh at that statement especially when we are hanging out and bench racing, but the truth of it all is just that. We may not admit it, but Dan does not hesitate to say, no matter how much he loves his Nova, he loves his Angel of a Wife Pamela, 10 times more. With a Bad Ass Nova like this, you also know she is very patient with all of his time in the garage.

CRACK UP’S A man is stranded on a desert island, all alone for ten years. One day, he sees a speck in the horizon. He thinks to himself, “It’s not a boat”. The speck gets even closer and he thinks, “It’s not a raft”. Then, out of the surf comes this gorgeoous blonde woman, wearing a wet suit and scuba gear. She comes up to the guy and says, “How long has it been since you’ve had a cigarette?” “Ten years!” he says. She reaches over, unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a fresh pack of cigarettes. He takes one, lights it, takes a long drag and says, “Man, oh man! is that good!” Then she asks, “How long has it been since you’ve had a drink of whiskey?” He replies, “Ten years!” She reaches over, unzips her waterproof pocket on the right, pulls out a flask and gives it to him. He takes a long swig and says, “Wow, that’s fantastic!” Then she starts unzipping this long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit and she says to him, “And how long has it been since you’ve had some REAL fun?” And the man replies, “My God! Dont’ tell me you’ve got a motorcycle in there!”
