An American Ride

To my way of thinking, no trip to Colorado is complete without visiting the Cortez & Durango region. Located in southwest Colorado in Montezuma County, Cortez (est. 1886) is a wonderful place to stay due to its proximity to The Four Corners, Mesa Verde National Park, and Monument Valley. It is also the perfect place to kick off a beautiful ride along the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway. That is a mouthful, but it seems fitting.

It is also the perfect place to kick off a beautiful ride along the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway. That is a mouthful, but it seems fitting.

The San Juan Skyway is an amazing 235-mile loop, connecting some of Colorado’s most beautiful roadways as you carve your way through the San Juan Mountains. Head east out of Cortez on US-160 to US-550 north in Durango. From Durango, you will head north to Silverton, cruising along the Animas River in the San Juan National Forest. Near Cascade Creek Rapids, the road narrows a bit, and you begin climbing up towards Silverton along an increasingly twisty route with amazing views along the way including Engineer Mountain and Twin Sister East to the west. The route takes you over Coal Bank Pass (10,660 feet) and the summit at Molas Pass (10,899 feet), the perfect spot to stop to take in some incredible views of the San Juan Mountains.

to the town of Ouray. How the road got its name remains a matter of speculation, but certainly the experience of riding it, along with enjoying the spectacular views, makes it worth every penny!

Between Silverton and Ouray, the route is carved through the San Juan Mountains. The road and the lanes narrow significantly as you climb to the highest point at Red Mountain Pass (11,018 feet). The roadbed is precariously perched along the sheer rock faces and the complete lack of guard rails gives you the sense that you could easily ride off into oblivion on one of the sharp corners. This ride is not for the faint of heart as the steep drop-offs, sharp turns and hairpins offer an incredibly challenging ride, so concentration is key! However, you are rewarded with epic views of the mountain range, peaks, steep cliffs, deep gorges, and waterfalls. You will go through old mining towns where you can appreciate the Victorian architecture or stop off at one of many scenic overlooks.

Telluride. Telluride, established as a silver mining town in 1878 is situated in a box canyon, along the San Juan River and surrounded by the 14,000-foot peaks of the San Juan Mountains. It is famously known as one of Colorado’s finest “ski towns” and it is also the site of Butch Cassidy’s first bank job in June of 1889. There is plenty to do here with shops, restaurants and Bridal Veil Falls. To say that it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth is an understatement!

Mesa Verde National Park, approximately 10 miles east of Cortez and 35 miles west of Durango, is home to 600 cliff dwellings. It is worth your time to visit and explore the park and the many cliff dwellings. Lodging and camping are available in the park, or you can stay nearby in Cortez or Durango. In Durango, purchase a ticket and ride the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad up to Silverton. Breathtaking scenery abounds along the Animas River as the train courses through the Cascade Canyon. You will steam past old mining camps and many of the filming sites of the 1969 classic, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, including the location of the epic scene where Newman and Redford plunged into the Animas River from high above the gorge. The movie was filmed in Durango, Silverton, and Telluride. The round-trip takes about 9-1/2 hours including a 2hour stop in Silverton to allow time to explore. Until next time, I will be out riding more Roads Worthy, itfeedsmysoul.

Welcome back Full Throttle readers! Winter is over and it is time to ride. For many Harley Davidson riders, comfort and style are just as important as performance. One of the easiest and most effective ways to enhance both is by upgrading the stock seat. Whether you’re a long-haul tourer or a weekend cruiser, investing in a high-quality aftermarket seat can significantly improve your riding experience. A well-designed seat provides better ergonomics, reduces fatigue, and adds a touch of personalization to your bike. Below, we’ll explore the benefits of changing your Harley seat and highlight some of the top aftermarket brands: Saddlemen, Mustang, and Le Pera.

Enhanced Comfort and Ergonomics

A stock Harley Davidson seat may not always provide the best support, especially for long-distance riders. Many riders experience discomfort, lower back pain, and numbness due to inadequate cushioning and improper weight distribution. An aftermarket seat is designed with superior materials and ergonomic contours that cater to different riding styles, ensuring maximum comfort. Seats with gel or memory foam padding can absorb road vibrations, reducing strain on the rider’s body.

Improved Riding Position and Control

The right seat can also enhance your posture and overall riding experience. Many aftermarket seats are designed to provide a more natural riding position, preventing slouching and discomfort. A properly fitted seat allows better foot placement, improving balance and maneuverability. Riders who experience discomfort due to their height or riding posture can benefit from a seat that adjusts their position to a more suitable stance.

Personalization and Style

An upgraded seat not only enhances comfort but also allows riders to customize their bike’s look. Aftermarket seats come in a variety of materials, colors, and stitching patterns, allowing riders to express their personal style. Whether you prefer a sleek, minimalist look or a more aggressive design, there are plenty of options to match your aesthetic preferences.

Increased Durability

High-quality aftermarket seats are built with premium materials that last longer than standard stock seats. Many of these seats are made with weather-resistant materials, protecting them from the elements and ensuring durability over time. This means less maintenance and replacement costs in the long run.

The Benefits of Finding Harley Davidson

Finding the best Seat for your Davidson Motorcycle

Popular Aftermarket Seat Brands

Saddlemen Seats

Saddlemen seats are known for their innovative gel-core technology, which provides exceptional comfort by reducing pressure points. These seats are particularly popular among touring riders who spend long hours on the road. Saddlemen’s seats are designed to absorb vibrations and minimize rider fatigue, making them a top choice for those who prioritize endurance and comfort. Additionally, their unique designs often feature stylish stitching and premium materials, adding a custom look to any Harley Davidson.

Mustang Seats

Mustang seats are renowned for their handcrafted quality and superior support. Designed with high-density foam and contoured shapes, these seats provide excellent weight distribution and lower back support. Mustang offers a variety of seat options, from solo seats to two-up touring seats, ensuring a comfortable ride for both the rider and passenger. Many Harley enthusiasts choose Mustang seats for their durability and ability to withstand long rides without losing shape.

Le Pera Seats

For riders who prioritize style as much as comfort, Le Pera seats are an excellent choice. Known for their sleek, custom designs, Le Pera seats offer a low-profile look without sacrificing support. These seats are popular among those who prefer a more aggressive riding stance, and they come in a variety of stylish patterns, materials, and colors. Whether you want a classic solo seat or a stylish two-up option, Le Pera provides high-quality craftsmanship with a unique aesthetic.

Conclusion

Upgrading your Harley Davidson seat is a worthwhile investment that enhances comfort, style, and durability. Whether you choose a Saddlemen seat for its gel-core technology, a Mustang seat for its handcrafted support, or a Le Pera seat for its sleek design, each option offers unique benefits tailored to different riding needs. A well-chosen seat can make all the difference in your riding experience, ensuring that every journey is as enjoyable as possible.

Sedalia Motorcycle Show

On a cold winter’s day, Jan and I got up early and headed down to Sedalia for the Sedalia Motorcycle Association Show-Me Bike Show. This was our second time at this event, a well-run motorcycle show in my opinion. I was curious about how long this event has been going on, so I started asking questions.

The gentlemen at the registration table referred me to Rick Yeager. I got some cool history. Yeager’s Harley Davidson in Sedalia MO was established by Jim Yeager in 1956. Rick Yeager took over the business and has since passed it on to the third generation, his nephew, Larry Yeager. Family owned for over 60 years!

In 1958 the Sedalia Motorcycle Association (S.M.A.) was formed by Jim. Theyare a non-profit group for the good of the community and motorcycle racing. I am impressed with their community support. They have two poker runs per year, one in May and one in October. The money that they raise from the February bike show and the poker runs go to six different organizations as well as individuals in need. They are open to all motorcycle riders. It does not matter what brand you ride, just that you ride!

Their care for the community and dedication to the S.M.A. is reflected in their motorcycle show. I saw many members helping out as the day progressed. The show is held at the Sedalia fairgrounds. It is easily accessible to unload your bike and pull into the building. Their registration table had plenty of help to keep the process smooth and easy. Plenty of vendors, food and spirits provided. They have 20 different classes.

Overall, it was a lovely day with lots of motorcycles in the show and plenty of folks walking through to enjoy the day. Jan was pleased to take home first place in the Trike Class! Thanks to Terry McVay for allowing us to show his one-off build that Jan and our techs at Chariots of Fire Customs LLC put together. I highly recommend visiting the show next year.

Blessings, Peace Out,Reine

CRACK UP'S

IPHONE VS ANDROID

Three Iphone engineers and three Android engineers are about to board a train to a computer conference. The Android engineers notice that the Iphone engineers bought only one ticket between them. The Android engineers ask the Iphone engineers how they plan on getting to the conference. “Watch and learn,” one of the Iphone engineers tells them.

As soon as the train leaves the station, the three Iphone engineers rush from their seats and all squeeze into one restroom. When the conductor comes through the car he knocks on the restroom door and says “ticket please!” The door opens a crack and the one ticket is handed to the conductor. The Android engineers are impressed, and decide that’s what they will do on the trip back. Then on the return trip, the Android engineers notice that the Iphone engineers haven’t bought any tickets. “How do you plan on getting home without any tickets?” they ask. “Watch and learn,” one of the Iphone engineers tells them. As soon as the train leaves the station, the three Android engineers hurry for the restroom. A few moments later, one of the Iphone engineers gets up from his seat, knocks on the restroom door and says, “ticket please!”

THE PUPPY

Some employees bought their boss a gift for his birthday. Before opening the gift, the boss shook it slightly, and noticed that it was wet in the corner. Touching his finger to the wet spot and tasting it, he asked, “A bottle of wine?” His employees replied, “No.” Again, he touched his finger to the box and tasted the liquid. “A bottle of scotch?” “His employees replied again, “No.” Finally the boss asked, “I give up. What is it?” His workers responded, “A puppy.”

SHOPLIFTING

An old lady gets caught shoplifting. On court day the lady and her husband who goes with her stands before the judge and he says to her, “Why did you shoplift?” And she says “I was hungry.” The judge says “what did you take?” She replies, “A can of peaches.” So the judge trying to figure out how to punish her says, “How many peaches where in the can?” The lady says “6” so the judge says ok then 1 day per peach in jail that will be 6 days time served. The judge says would anyone like to say anything and her husband says “your honor, she stole a can of peas too.”

CHIHUAHUA

Two buddies were out for a Saturday stroll. One had a Doberman and the other had a Chihuahua. As they sauntered down the street, the guy with the Doberman said to his friend, “Let’s go over to the bar and get something to drink.” The guy with the Chihuahua said, “We can’t go in there. We’ve gor dogs with us.” The one with the Doberman said, “Just follow my lead,” They walked over to the bar and the guy with the doverman puts on a pair of dark glasses and started to walk in. The bouncer at the door said, “Sorry, Mac, no pets allowed.” The man with the Doberman said, “You don’t understand, this is my seeing-eye dog.” The bouncer said, “Yes, they’re using them now. They’re very good.” The bouncer said, “Come on in.” the buddy with the Chihuahua figured what the heck, so he put on a pair of dark glasses and started to walk in. He knew his would be more unbelievable. Once again the bouncer said, “Sorry, pal, no pets allowed.” The man with the Chihuahua said, “You don’t understand, this is my seeing-eye dog.” The bounder said, “A Chihuahua?” The man said, “A Chihuahua? they gave me a fricking Chihuahua?”
